An interesting game took place in Villeurbanne where higher ranked ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (11-9) was upset on its own court by fifteenth ranked Poitiers (7-13) 86-78 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-11. But ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket won second period 22-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Poitiers won last quarter 27-21. They made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Poitiers outrebounded ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket 31-20 including a 25-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Dominic James (180-86, college: Marquette) who helped to win the game recording 34 points (!!!) and the other American import forward Ahmad Nivins (206-87, college: St.Joseph's) who added 13 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The former international guard Edwin Jackson (191-89) responded with 25 points and Nigerian power forward Uche Nsonwu-Amadi (208-78, college: Wyoming, agency: Beo Basket) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Poitiers moved-up to fourteenth place, which they share with Nancy. Loser ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. Poitiers will face bottom-ranked Boulazac Basket (#16) at home in the next round. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will play against Cholet (#10).
