2011 FIBA U19 World Championships go to Latvia and Chile - Apr 20, 2010

The FIBA Central Board on Saturday assigned the organisation of the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championships for men and women to Latvia (Men) and Chile (Women). Latvia has staged a very sucessfull EuroBasket Women in 2009. The U19 men's event will be played in the same facilities than in 2009 in Liepaja, Valmiera and Riga from 30th June to 10th July 2011. The bid from Chile was presented by federation President Miguel Herrera. The hosting cities will be Talcahuano, Puerto Monnt, Puerto Varas, Valdivia and Vina del Mar from 20th - 30th July 2011. World Team repeated their last seasons success and rallied past the USA Junior National at the 2013 Nike Hoop Summit at the Rose Garden in Portland. Livio Jean-Charles (204-PF-93, agency: Beo Basket) stepped up with 27 points and 13 boards to lead the World selection.

World Team repeated their last seasons success and rallied past the USA Junior National at the 2013 Nike Hoop Summit at the Rose Garden in Portland. Livio Jean-Charles (204-PF-93, agency: Beo Basket) stepped up with 27 points and 13 boards to lead the World selection. World Team gained a 23:21 lead after the starting stanza. They boosted the gap in the second quarter. The World selection built a 52:43 halftime advantage. USA Junior National Team tried to change the complexion of the game in the third term. They trimmed the deficit by one point to trail by 8 points at the final intermission. However World Team erupted for 38 points in the fourth period and sealed the winning outcome at the end. Dennis Schroeder (181-PG-93) accounted for 18 points, while Andrew Wiggins (202-SF-95) added 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Jabari Parker (203-F-95) answered with 22 points for the USA. Julius Randle (203-F-94) had 19 points and 8 rebounds in defeat.
U19 World Championship Draw was held in Prague, Czech Republic on Tuesday. Sixteen teams were drawn into four pools with four teams in each to start the preliminary round of the tournament. The competition will be held from June 27 through July 7, 2013.

The competition will be held from June 27 through July 7, 2013. Top three teams from each group of the preliminary round will advance into the Eighth-Final Round. There the teams will be drawn into two pools with six teams in each. The top eight teams from the Eighth-Final Round will qualify for the Quarterfinal round. Lithuania will defend their title as they won the crown in 2011 in Latvia.

Group A: Croatia, Spain, Canada, South Korea Group B: Iran, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Argentina Group C: Senegal, Serbia, Brazil, Australia Group D: China, Cote dIvoire, USA, Russia.

U19 World Championship will be held in Czech Republic. The meeting in Brazil announced the European country to be the host next year.
Latvia as a host farewell in 2011 as Lithuania U19 won the 2011 U19 FIBA World Championships! The Baltic side won over Serbia U19 85:67 to become the best U19 team of the world with MVP, Jonas Valanciunas. Russia was third, while Argentina finished fourth. USA U19 team surprisingly went home with the 5th place.
