Latvia is set for hosting U19 World Championship that will start tomorrow in the country. The 10th Edition of the tournament will be held in Latvia from 30 June through 10 July 2011. The 2011 FIBA World U19 Championship for Men will gather teams from 16 countries and five FIBA continental zones, featuring the world's best young players born in 1992 or after. The best three teams from each group will advance into the next round and will make up two groups with six teams in each. Best four teams from the groups of the second stage will qualify into the quarterfinals.
Two years ago the United States triumphed at the U19 World Championship in New Zealand. They overcame Greek counterparts in the final 88:80. The victory marked the first success for the USA since 1991. Tyshawn Taylor (190-G-90) knocked down 18 points, made 6 assists and 5 steals to pace the USA to the historic win. Ashton Gibbs (187-G-90) notched 13 points, while Klay Thompson had 10 points for the winners. Costas Sloukas answered with 17 points for Greece. Nikolaos Pappas had 16 points in the losing effort.

  



Spanish city of Zaragoza to host 2016 FIBA U17 World Championships; Egypt and Italy to stage 2017 FIBA U19 World Championships - Mar 12, 2016

FINAL USA - Croatia 79-71 OT The USA clinched the title at the World Championship in Heraklion. They overcame Croatia in a thrilling Final tonight. Jalen Brunson (188-G-97) scored 14 points, dished out 7 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds to pace Team USA to an overtime triumph. It was a high-quality basketball from start to finish. SEMIFINALS USA - Greece 82-76 Team USA advanced into the World Championship Final. They overcame a fierce opposition from hosting Greece to reach the title game. Jalen Brunson (188-G-97) was unstoppable for the USA with 30 points. Team USA grabbed a 17:12 lead after ten minutes. They arrived at the final intermission up by 4 points 57:53.
