FIBA Basketball World Cup opens the doors today in Spain for 24 teams, millions of fans, and spectators. The first-ever FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place in Spain from 30 August to 14 September 2014.

The Group Phase will be played in Bilbao, Gran Canaria, Granada and Sevilla (30 August-4 September). The Final Phase will take place in the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona and in the Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid (6-14 September).

Croatia will take on Philippines in the opener of the event as well as Ukraine plays versus Dominican Republic and Angola will take on South Korea.

In year 2010 Team USA clinched the title at the World Championship in Turkey! They finished the tournament undefeated outscoring hosting Turkey 81-64 in the championship game. The USA were well in control throughout the whole encounter and celebrated a well-deserved success at the end. Kevin Durant (206-SF-88, college: Texas) lived up to his MVP status tallying 28 points and 5 rebounds.

The Official Draw Ceremony of the Qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 took place at a star-studded event in Guangzhou, China on Sunday. NBA won't release players for in-season World Cup qualifying - 21 days ago
Stephen Curry (190-PG-88, college: Davidson) said he plans to play in the 2019 World Cup. He'll need help ensuring Team USA qualifies. The 13 teams that will play in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Pre-Qualifiers were drawn into their respective groups in Prague, Czech Republic on Saturday morning.
