The
bottom line is Maccabi Haifa got the win. The Bottom line is that they played
great basketball in the second half. But if you look slightly above the bottom
line, you'd see an aweful first half, in which everything went opposite as
planned for Maccabi Haifa and their young (and talented) coach Avi Ashkenazy.
Now, what should they feel after this game? Should they be happy about the great
basketball they played in the first half, or should they be upset about the poor
performence in the first half? Only Haifa's players and coaches know. Anyway,
the first half was terrible for both teams, and the Macdenoian team managed to
get a 1 points lead, 27-26, going into halftime. the second half was a whole new
story. Haifa showed its strong defense whcih was its trademark last season, and
completely locked their basket, allowing only 18 points for Gustivar's players
in the second half. Me'ir Tapiro, Andrew Kennedy and Mark Dean completed the job
on offense.

BIPOP REGGIO E.: Damiao 7 (2/2, 0/1), Davolio 7 (2/3, 1/1), Moore 9 (0/3, 3/10),

(0/1). N.e.: Carra. All. Lombardi
It
was supposed to be a tough game for Haifa, but they crushed Reggio from the
opening tip and until the final buzzer sounded. Mark Dean, the excellent Haifa
center, slowed down Emilia's center, Andrew Bets, and Moshe Brener did the same
for Tracey Moore, an ex-NBA player. Dean also contributed on the offensive end
as he gave his usual rock-solid contribution under the baskets. Dragen Alexich,
Haifa's bosman player, had a nice game as well, and he's really starting to know
what they are looking to get from him in Haifa. Meir Tappiro led Haifa's
offensive charge, and a team effort helped limit Reggio to only 25 first half
points. Haifa pretty much assured, with that win, that they will advance to the
next round in the Kurac cup.

Haifa lost in Italy,
but will remain in first place, as it won Emilia by 25 in Israel. Haifa's big
man, Mark Dean had 7 offensive reb (14 total), and led Haifa's scorers list with
20. This is a very good achievement for BC Haifa, that only made its way back to
Div A 2 yeara ago.
