  KORAC  CUP  INTRODUCTION

Korac Cup was the third of European cups. This cup was set in the name of Radivoj Korac - probably the best ever Yugoslavian player, who was killed in a car accident. Here you could find various range of teams. Some of them were too strong to play only in their country's league. Others did not have adequate financial support but wanted to participate on an international level. Additionally Korac Cup was the largest European cup, gathering more teams than Euroleague and Euro Cup together. Here we could find teams from countries, which did not have a high developed basketball program and did not have the chance to participate in Euroleague nor EuroCup. Korac Cup in it's final years included 3 stages: Elimination round - 40 teams played in pairs and winners advanced to Stage II. In Stage II there were 16 groups of 4 teams each. The last stage was a playoffs with the best 32 teams. Korac Cup managed to have a very stable place in European basketball.
