  RAIMUNDO  SAPORTA  CUP  INTRODUCTION

Eurobasket
Raimundo Saporta (formerly known as EuroCup) used to be the second most prestigious European basketball cup. It was previously called European Cup of Cup Winners, and in fact only cup winners or league finalists could participate in this cup. Then the rules were more flexible, but the number of participating teams was still ruled by FIBA. Then the countries could select up to two clubs to EuroCup (the limit was set by FIBA). In 1998 the name was changed from EuroCup to Saporta Cup. Saporta was Spanish and he had a big influence on Spanish basketball. It was very competitive cup with teams, which could not qualify for Euroleague, but offered similar level of play. EuroCup champion was a very respected title and only a few teams could be proud of having this trophy. EuroCup structure changed very often.
