Bajramovic in Berlin or how to fit in a - by Nedzad Kladusak
This summer Bajramovic has been in the focus of different top teams and it was a kind of a surprise when he joined Alba.
Actually the poor stats and the poor game during the additional qualifiers didn t help the captain of the BIH NT to sign with a powerhouse.
Several times he ruled out any possibility to play in the german BBL. After his arrival in the BBL he still has been convinced that it is only an intermezzo and that he will
leave the league with all honours and several titles. The fans of Alba Berlin have also been deeply convinced that they finally have a european top player who will dominate the league.
But after Alba failed to qualify for the Euroleague and after the 65-53 defeat they suffered last night against Bonn, it seems to become one of the biggest misunderstanding in Albas history.
Yesterday Alba acted like it is avoiding Bajramovic while Bajramovic tried to score and desperately get in the game making bad decisions like posting up 5-6m away from the basket. Bajramovic set some screens but no one cared.
After 13 minutes and two rather unnecessary PF Pavicevic replaced him by Dojcin who has been intended to be his back-up. Well both PF didn t help the team but the difference is that Bajramovic has
the reputation to be a go-to-guy and that Bajramovic didn t act too clever when he pointed out that he virtually described Germany and Berlin to be only a second choice for him. Let s hope Bajramovic gets back to his principal strengths fighting spirit and modesty.

Dramatic win for Rilski Sportist - by Valentin Anguelov
The players of Rilski Sportist had something to prove to their president and head coach after the heavy loss last saturday against Lukoil Academic. They did it in the best way - with a win. Today in 'Arena Samokov' in a dramatic and interesting game Rilski Sportist defeated Euroins Cherno more 85-83 and took second win of the season.
It was an even match during the first half. However for most of the time the hosts were in front until a few good plays by Vasil Kyosev in the second quarter helped the visitors take a 38-42 lead. They kept their lead until the final seconds when Rilski tied the score at 47. Kyosev had very good first half and had 15 points.
After the break the hosts started better and with good fast breaks managed to take a 12-point lead. Then for a few minutes both teams didn't score as Kyosev broke the deadlock. Then though Bogdan Boev scored a buzzer beater to give Rilski a 67-55 lead goind in to the last quarter.
The fourth quarter was very dramatic. Little by little Erik Webb found his shooting touch and Cherno more cut their deficit to only a single point. Then followed some dramatic plays but the luck at the end was on the side of Rilski Sportist and the team took this important win.
Travis Peterson (208-C-85, agency: Edge Sports, college: Samford) had his best game in a long time finishing with 19 points and 6 rebounds. David Burgess and Aleksandar Gruev scored 16 apiece as Bogdan Boev finished with 15 points, most of them in very important moments.
For the visitors very good played the top scorer in this game Vasil Kyosev with 24 points. Erik Webb and Simeon Tsenov scored 16 points apiece but that wasn't enough for the team from Varna.
In the next round Cherno more will host Chernomorets as Rilski Sportist will play on friday in Sofia against Levski.

Svjetlost signs Jurica Spahija - by Eurobasket News
Svjetlost management had busy several days after they started off their season with 2 losses. They have decided to fire Head Coach Edi Dzelalija and have given the reins to Igor Kovacevic. The team also announced that all players will be sanctioned for poor form.
The latest news is that Svjetlost decided to bring in a new player. Reportedly they have agreed a deal with Jurica Spahija (203-F/C-83) who has already spent half of the season with the club in the past. As per team policy, the financial details were not disclosed. The 26-year old forward is expected to improve scoring for Svejtlost and management hopes that this change will be good for the club. If all goes well, Spahija is expected to make his debut this Saturday when Svejtlost faces Dubrava.
Jurica Spahija stared his career with Zadar before moving to Gravelines in 2002. Following season, Spahija returned to Croatia and signed with Dubrovnik. He appeared in 16 league games and posted averages of 11.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.   FINLAND

KORISLIIGA: Tyray Pearson in Finland - by Rauno Hurmalainen
American PF Tyray Pearson (201-F-80, college: Iowa St.) is in Finland and will be on Torpan Pojat (Helsinki) roster today as ToPo is on the road in Joensuu. Hosting Kataja (2-6) will meet ToPo (6-2) and the newcomer at 5 pm. Pearson has played earlier in three European countries: Portugal (2003-05), Germany (2005-07, 2008-09) and in Spain 2007-08). Last season Pearson played only shortly (four games) in Germany-1. Bundesliga (Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck) averaging 3,8 ppg - 1,5 rpg. ToPo's American swingman Corey Smith (195-G/F-83, agency: Warren Sports International, college: Vanderbilt) is still on injured list (knee) and Finnish NT F-C Hanno Mottola (209-F/C-76, college: Utah) will make his come back first in February because of the achilles tendon operation.

KORISLIIGA: OT Thriller in Joensuu - by Rauno Hurmalainen
Korisliiga, Round 9: OT was needed, when Torpan Pojat (Helsinki) was visiting in Joensuu Arena tonight. Hosting Kataja was leading still by 11 pts (56-45) during the half time, but ToPo wanted the victory so badly and got it during the extra five minutes. And who was the magic man again? American G Obie Trotter (186-G-84, college: Alabama A&M), who is the leading scorer in Finland right now (27,0 ppg), scored 38 pts, grabbed nine rbs, gave six assists - and had seven turnovers on the minus-side. Trotter succeeded at the end, but home team's Jeb Ivey (190-G-80, agency: Rasmussen Services, college: Portland St.) missed a few shots at that stage. When even Tyray Pearson (201-F-80, college: Iowa St.) helped ToPo with his 13 pts and didn't give too much room for the jet-lag (arrived on Friday to Finland), ToPo's Head Coach Tomi Kaminen was a happy man for sure. ToPo won 99-103. In Kouvola Kouvot defeated KTP by 21 pts (97-76), in Salo Vilpas won over Karhu (Kauhajoki) 92-78 and in Lappeenranta local YMCA sent FoKoPo back home to Forssa without a victory (87-81).

Hawks' Josh Smith becomes youngest to reach 900 blocks

Posted Oct 30 2009 10:10PM

ATLANTA (AP) -- Josh Smith is the youngest player in NBA history to block 900 shots.

The 23-year-old Smith, in his sixth season with the Atlanta Hawks, passed Shaquille O'Neal as the youngest to reach the milestone when he rejected a shot by Washington's Gilbert Arenas with about 4:30 remaining in Friday night's game.

The block set up a fast break, capped by Smith's left-handed dunk.

O'Neal was 24 years old when he reached 900 blocks. Smith's 24th birthday is Dec. 5.

Summary of the Friday's games - by Eurobasket News
LA Clippers - Utah Jazz 98-111
Paul Millsap (6'7''-F-85, college: Louisiana Tech) scored 17 of his 23 of his points in the second half, and the Utah Jazz used a 15-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters to beat the Los Angeles Clippers, 111-98 on Friday night. Carlos Boozer (6'10''-F/C-80, college: Duke) had 20 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, and Deron Williams finished with 21 points and nine assists for Utah, which held the Clippers to 38 points in the second half. Ronnie Brewer added 17 points as the Jazz avoided their first 0-2 start since 2002. The Jazz outrebounded the Clippers 48-35, with Millsap pulling down seven of his nine boards in the second half as Utah overcame a sluggish start in its home opener despite having only 10 available players because of injuries. Eric Gordon scored 22, and Baron Davis and Chris Kaman added 21 points apiece for the Clippers, who fell to 0-3.

Dallas M. - LA Lakers 94-80
Dirk Nowitzki (6'11''-F-78) scored 21 points and the Dallas Mavericks were 25 of 32 from the free throw line in routing the Los Angeles Lakers 94-80 Friday night for their first win of the season. Nowitzki made 10 of 11 from the line and grabbed 10 rebounds, Shawn Marion (6'7''-F-78, college: UNLV) added 18 points and Jason Terry 16 to end the Mavs' six-game losing streak against the defending NBA champions. They hadn't won against the Lakers at Staples Center since March 11, 2007. Erick Dampier had 10 rebounds and Jason Kidd had 11 assists. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 20 points. Andrew Bynum had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and reserve Shannon Brown added 12 points.

Sacramento K. - N.Orleans H. 92-97
Chris Paul (6'0''-G-85, college: Wake Forest) scored 31 points and Emeka Okafor (6'9''-F/C-82, college: Connecticut) capped another strong performance with two key blocks in the final seconds to help the New Orleans Hornets beat the Sacramento Kings 97-92 on Friday night. Okafor then more or less went out and proved that very point against the Kings with 11 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks for his second straight double-double. Paul scored 13 of New Orleans' last 17 points and David West added 13 points for the Hornets. Tyreke Evans scored 22 points and Kevin Martin added 20 for Sacramento, which led 91-88 on Martin's running floater off the glass..

Golde State W. - Phoenix Suns 101-123
Steve Nash (6'3''-G-74, college: Santa Clara) scored 18 points and had the sixth 20-assist game of his career Friday night in Phoenix's 123-101 rout of the Golden State Warriors in the Suns' home opener. All five Phoenix starters scored in double figures, led by Leandro Barbosa's 24 points. Channing Frye (6'11''-C/F-83, college: Arizona), the former University of Arizona star making his home debut for the Suns, added 22, including making 6 of 7 3-pointers, four in the fourth quarter. Amare Stoudemire added 20 points and Grant Hill had 18 for Phoenix. Monta Ellis led the Warriors with 19 points, while Kelenna Azubuike added 17. Nash's 20 assists were two shy of his career high, set in a triple-overtime game against New York on Jan. 2, 2006.

Toronto R. - Memphis G. 107-115
Zach Randolph (6'9''-C-81, college: Michigan St.) scored 30 points Friday night to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to their first victory of the season, 115-107 over the Toronto Raptors. Six Grizzlies finished in double figures. Marc Gasol added 19 points for Memphis, which lost by 22 to the Detroit Pistons in the season opener Wednesday night. O.J. Mayo (6'5''-G-87, college: USC) had 18 points, and Rudy Gay finished with 17 points and nine rebounds. Mike Conley had 10 points and 10 assists for Memphis. Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 37 points and 12 rebounds. Jose Calderon scored 15 points and Hedo Turkoglu finished with 14. Andrea Bargnani had 12 points, all in the third quarter.

Cleveland C. - Minnesota T. 104-87
LeBron James (6'8''-F-84) and the Cleveland Cavaliers can relax a little. They haven't lost their touch, after a rough start to this experimental season. Determined to get the Cavaliers to play a complete game, James had 24 points and nine rebounds in Cleveland's first victory of the season, 104-87 over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday. Mo Williams added 20 points with six assists and no turnovers. Jonny Flynn (6'0''-G-89, college: Syracuse) had 17 points for the Wolves.

Orlando M. - New Jersey N. 95-85
Vince Carter (6'5''-G-77, college: N.Carolina) returned to New Jersey and scored 16 points before leaving the game against his former teammates in the second quarter with a sprained left ankle and the Orlando Magic rolled to a 95-85 victory Friday night. All-Star center Dwight Howard (6'10''-F-85) more than made up for Carter's absence with 20 points, 22 rebounds and four blocks as the Magic won their second straight and handed the Nets their second loss in as many games. Former Net Ryan Anderson, who was sent to Orlando in the deal with Carter, added 16 points for the defending Eastern Conference champions. Courtney Lee, who was traded to Nets along with Rafer Alston and Tony Battie in the draft-day deal for Carter, had 18 points.

Chicago B. - Boston C. 90-118
Kevin Garnett (6'10''-F-76, agency: Pro Management Agency) was an impressed spectator while he was still on the court. Paul Pierce (6'7''-F-77, college: Kansas) scored 20 of his 22 points in the third quarter, and the Boston Celtics rolled to a 118-90 victory over the Chicago Bulls on Friday night in the teams' first matchup since last spring's thrilling seven-game playoff series. Allen, who finished with 20 points, scored nine of Boston's last 13 in the second as it opened a 50-35 halftime edge. Garnett, who missed the final 25 games of the regular season and the playoffs with strained ligaments in his right knee, added 16 points. Rajon Rondo had 16 assists and eight rebounds as the Celtics improved to 3-0. Eddie House came off the Boston bench and was shooting freely in garbage time, finishing with 22 points. John Salmons (6'7''-F-79, college: Miami, FL) led the Bulls (1-1) with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Jannero Pargo had 13 points, and Tyrus Thomas and Joakim Noah 10 apiece.

Oklah.City T. - Detroit P. 91-83
Kevin Durant scored 11 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to lead Oklahoma City to a 91-83 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night. Ben Gordon, starting for the injured Richard Hamilton, had 25 points in his home debut for Detroit after scoring 22 in its season-opening win at Memphis. Rodney Stuckey scored 21, but had just two assists. Ben Gordon, starting for the injured Richard Hamilton, had 25 points in his home debut for Detroit after scoring 22 in its season-opening win at Memphis. Rodney Stuckey scored 21, but had just two assists.

Miami Heat - Indiana P. 96-83
Jermaine O'Neal (6'11''-F-78) had 22 points and 12 rebounds against his former team, and the Miami Heat beat the Pacers 96-83 on Friday night. Dwyane Wade (6'4''-G-82, college: Marquette), who led Miami with 32 points, thought the Pacers fans were wrong to treat O'Neal that way. The Heat have won their first two games by a combined 35 points. It was Wade's first win ever at Indiana, and only the sixth win at Indiana for the Heat in their 22-year history. The Pacers had won 14 straight at home dating to 2001.

New York K. - Charlotte B. 100-102 OT2
Charlotte Bobcats celebrated 102-100 win after two overtimes last night. Raymond Felton (6'5''-G-84, college: N.Carolina) led the winners with 22 points - 8 in the two overtime periods, including two big free throws in the second overtime after he had limped off the court. Augustin had 15 points off the bench for Charlotte (1-1). Harrington, David Lee and Nate Robinson (5'9''-G-84, college: Washington) had 17 points each for the Knicks. Gallinari scored 16 points off the bench and was once again the Knicks' best weapon late in the game. He scored 12 points in the fourth quarter and overtimes, despite playing with five fouls.

Milwaukee B. - Philadelph.76 86-99
The 76ers have almost been forgotten by a city whipped into a World Series frenzy. Andre Andre Iguodala (6'6''-G-84, college: Arizona) and Elton Brand (6'8''-F-79, college: Duke) gave a reminder why they might be worth watching long after fans have put away the Phillies T-shirts for the winter. Andre Iguodala scored 19 points, Brand had 17 and the Philadelphia 76ers bounced back from a dismal opener to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 99-86 on Friday night. Samuel Dalembert had 10 points and 12 rebounds to help the Sixers look sharp in their home opener. The Sixers turned around an atrocious performance in their debut against the Magic that saw them trail by as many as 31 points.

Washington W. - Atlanta H. 89-100
Josh Smith (6'9''-F-85) had to wait almost an entire game for his 900th career blocked shot. He made sure to cash in on the milestone play. Smith scored 20 points and became the youngest player to block 900 shots, leading the Atlanta Hawks past Gilbert Arenas (6'3''-G-82, college: Arizona) and the Washington Wizards, 100-89 on Friday night. Arenas had 23 points and Brendan Haywood added 19 for Washington. Al Horford had 10 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks for Atlanta. Joe Johnson scored 17 points and Jamal Crawford added 16 for Atlanta, which took the lead for good late in the first quarter.

Suns exercise options on Dudley, Lopez - by Eurobasket News
The Phoenix Suns exercised their options on the contracts of forward Jared Dudley (6'7''-F-85, agency: Priority Sports, college: Boston Coll.) and center Robin Lopez (7'0''-C/F-88, college: Stanford) for the 2010-11 season, but declined the option on the contract of swingman Alando Tucker (6'6''-F-84, college: Wisconsin).

Dudley is entering his first full season with the Suns after being acquired in a multiplayer trade with Charlotte on Dec. 10. The Boston College product appeared in 48 games for Phoenix in 2008-09, including 30 of 31 games following the All-Star break when he became one of the Suns most consistent reserves.

Lopez was Phoenix's first-round pick in the 2008 draft. He is recovering from a broken bone in his left foot.

Tucker was a first-round draft pick of Phoenix in 2007 and has played in just 36 games, including 30 last season.
The moves were announced Friday.

Utah Jazz exercise option on Kosta Koufos, Rockets exercise option on Aaron Brooks - by Eurobasket News
The Utah Jazz exercised their third- year contract option on center Kostas Koufos (7'0''-F/C-89, college: Ohio St.), the team announced on Friday. Per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The seven-foot, 265-pound Koufos averaged 4.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 48 games (seven starts) last season with the Jazz. The Ohio State product was selected 23rd overall by Utah in the 2008 draft. Koufos averaged 14.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.81 blocks in 37 games for the Buckeyes in his only collegiate season.

NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports Thursday the Houston Rockets officially exercised the option on point guard Aaron Brooks (6'0''-G-85, agency: Buck Andre, college: Oregon) contract. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey told FOX 26 on October 1 that the club planned to do just that. The team had until end of the month to take care of it, which was a no-brainer. Brooks is now contractually tied to the club through the 2010-2011 season. This season Brooks will make $1,118,520. Next year Brooks will earn $2,016, 691. Morey and the Rockets have not been available for comment on this development. (Courtesy of www.myfoxhouston.com)

Wizards exercise options on Nick Young and JaVale McGee, but not Javaris Crittenton - by Eurobasket News
The Wizards just sent a press release out announcing that they have picked up the 2010/11 options on Nick Young (6'6''-G/F-85, agency: Priority Sports, college: USC) and Javale McGee (6'11''-F-88, college: Nevada). The NBA requires you to pick up the rookie contract options for the next year before November 1, which explains why this happened today.

For Young, 2010/11 will be the final year of his rookie contract. He can negotiate an extension next offseason, or he can wait a year and become a restricted free agent. McGee is still an additional year away from that process.

But there was one name that was conspicuously absent from the release. Javaris Crittenton (6'5''-G-87, college: Georgia Tech). (Just to be sure, I checked with a person in the Wizards organization about Crittenton's option once I received the press release. His response was 'Young and McGee, as the release says.')

Crittenton, like Young, is a member of the 2007 draft class. If the Wizards picked up his option for 2010/11, it would be for about 2.3 million. Instead, I guess Ernie Grunfeld has decided he'd rather have the extra luxury tax room to help lessen the likely bill the Wizards are going to owe the league. This means Crittenton will be moving on after the year is up.

If you'll remember, it was Crittenton's presence that convinced Grunfeld to swap Antonio Daniels for Mike James. In a year where Grunfeld likely knew the luxury tax level was going to fall, he still took on extra money to get Crittenton. Now, not even a year later, Grunfeld appears like he's changing his mind. This despite Crittenton getting very little playing time until the end of last year and getting injured this year.

Let's get back to that injury. You'll remember that yesterday Crittenton expressed frustration that the Wizards didn't move quicker to address his ankle injury. He had a scoping surgery last Friday to make sure nothing new was in there, but that stunted his recovery time considerably. Crittenton told Mike Jones of the Times that the Wizards had him go through multiple X-rays and 'cat scans' even though he said they spotted the injury on the first MRI.

Now, Crittenton might not be right on the injury process. As our resident doctor, GodWuzAWiz, said yesterday, 'You cant see cartilage tears on x-ray, so I am not sure what he was talking about there.' But you still have to feel for a guy who's very career in large part is determined by how well he recovers from this injury. Kyle already wrote about how Crittenton likely rushed back from the injury because he desperately wanted to carve himself a spot in Flip Saunders' rotation. Now, he reaggravated it, and had to wait two weeks since when they first found out what happened to have the scoping surgery. Then, just days after he had the surgery, he finds out he's not in the Wizards' future plans.

The point here isn't to say that the process by which Crittenton's injury recovery occurred is wrong. I don't know enough about these things to say one way or the other. So, let's be clear, I am not bashing the Wizards medical staff.

The point is to display how much this all must stink for Javaris Crittenton. He's been on three teams now in three years, and his third team just told him he wasn't in their future plans. He never had a chance this year to show his third team what he could do, all because of an injury that took longer to heal than expected. Now, his NBA career is in pretty serious jeopardy, and you could argue he never received a chance anywhere he went. I completely understand how he could express his discontent with the organization, even if he isn't actually right.

Harbour Heat win CBL title - by Mike Lacey
The Harbour Heat Reserves efficiently overcame AUT 110-93 to take out the Conference Basketball League Zone 1 title at Breakers stadium on Saturday.
Boasting a starting five all with NBL experience the Heat were first out the blocks establishing an early 9-2 advantage. With Hayden Allen (187-G-79) prominent this lead was extended to 18-7 with 4:30 remaining in the quarter only a brace of baskets apiece from Houston ORiley and Josh Tuaiti keeping AUT in the hunt. A couple of put backs by Harbour forward Josh Davis were countered by a pair of threes from ORiley and the quarter ended with Harbour ahead 29-23.
Allen was again prominent for Harbour in the second quarter as he scored 14 of his teams 25 points in the period as they stretched their lead to 51-42 with 1:30 remaining in the half. A couple of jump shots from Duane Bailey either side of a Jarrod Kenny score trimmed the Harbour advantage to 54-49, AUT entering the main break with impetus and optimism.
Harbour player coach Dan Ryan, surprisingly kept scoreless in the first half led his team on an 11-0 run to open the second period as AUT went ice cold at the offensive end, the students unable to score until Kenny made a basket 5:30 into the half. Further scores from Kenney, ORiley and three from Zach Makavilitogia drew AUT within striking distance at 72-63 with 2:10 left in the quarter. However, ill discipline on the AUT bench cost them dearly as they gave up a technical foul and watched Josh Davis sink four consecutive free throws and then add another two points on the next play to send his team into the break ahead 82-67.
Hayden Allen (187-G-79) made the opening two scores of the final period to stretch the Heat lead to 20 points and the remainder of the quarter was a procession, Harbour able to run their bench and ease to a comfortable win. Allen scored an impressive 41 points (14 from 26 from the field) for the Heat, with ORiley the best for AUT with 28 points (7 from 22).
Harbour Heat Reserves 110 (Hayden Allen (187-G-79) 41, Josh Davis 14, Michael Dawson 13, Dan Ryan 11).
AUT 93 (Houston ORiley 28, Jarrod Kenny 17, Josh Tuaiti 13).

KL Dragons eke out win over Thailand Tigers - by Eurobasket News
KL Dragons - Thailand Tigers 79:78
KL Dragons claimed the second win at the ASEAN League inaugural season. They held off the Thailand Tigers at home court. Rudy Lingganay (173-G) fired 27 points to pace the hosts as they improved at 2-2 record. The Tigers in the meantime slipped at 0-3 record.
KL Dragons jumped to a 16:11 lead midway through the opening frame. But the Tigers stayed close and Attaporn Lertmalaiporn drew things level at 19 after ten minutes. Axel Doruelo and Sukdave Ghogar set the visitors in front in the second quarter. The Tigers soon opened up a double-digit lead 43:32. KL Dragons struggled to deny the deficit as they trailed by ten points at halftime. However Chris Kuete (195-G/F-83) and Rudy Lingganay sparked a comeback rally from the hosts in the third stanza. The Malaysian team got within two at the end of the third stanza. Chris Kuete dropped a three-pointer as KL Dragons surged ahead early in the fourth quarter. The teams kept it close in the reminder of the contest. The Tigers were behind by just two points after two freebies from Attaporn Lertmalaiporn with 29 seconds remaining in regulation.
