D1 Round: 19 (Regular Season) - by Eurobasket News
M.Hainaut - Oostende 93-86
Dexia Mons-Hainaut nailed 93 points against Base Oostende, what was more than enough for 13-4 record in D1. Aalstar also celebrated this week-end meaning that these two teams remain on top after 19 rounds. Caleb Green (203-F-85, college: ORU) was totally the best player for the hosts collecting 35 points and 10 rebounds. On the other side, Roberts Hite scored 23 pts, including 3 of 5 from behind the arc. His Oostende dropped on 5-12.

Antwerp - Liege 79-73

The Tiger Sharks sweep the series!!! - by David Magana

Last Saturday night at the UB Gym, the Tiger Sharks completed the task of beating the UB Black Jaguars in two consecutive games in a 'best out of three series' for the Belmopan Basketball Association championship. It was a bumpy ride from the get go game with both teams trying to dominate. No one could foresee who would triumph in the end as both teams successfully took the lead for short periods of time. It was not until the fourth quarter that the Jaguars were able to get a clear 14 point lead. Perhaps it was overconfidence that overtook the team at that point as they subsequently let the Tiger Sharks not only recover but then beat them 83-81. This is not to say that the Tiger Sharks were not playing well in the last quarter, in fact the Tiger Sharks had a number of great plays and, after several threes, made the come back due to the leadership of key players like Kelvin Gillett (170-G) and Kurt Burgess (-F/C). The UB Jaguars made a huge mistake in not realizing that there was no shot clock. When they found themselves leading in the fourth quarter, they could have potentially used this to their advantage to consume time, but you cannot fault them for playing by the rules. In the last five seconds, the Jaguars did get a key offensive rebound coming from a free throw that was missed by Winston Pratt (186-G-90) unfortunately, they fail to capitalize twice to draw the game. When the final whistle was blown, UB had put up a valiant fight only to lose. As coach Siroki commented, his team showed courage, sportsmanship and team work throughout the season and even though the team has players that are seventeen years of age, they put up a great fight to an older, experienced and talented team (let us not forget that the Tiger Sharks are the semi-Pro Champs).

The Tiger Sharks were lead by Kurt Burgess who had a double double night; 22 pts, 13 rebs, 1 block, followed by Kelvin Gillett with 22 pts, 6 assists and Keith Acosta (193-G/F-76, college: Tex.A&M-Comm.) with also double double figures; 14 pts, 12 rebs. In a loosing effort, Winston Pratt scored 19 pts, 6 rebs, 1 block, Stephen Williams (188-G-83) with 10 pts, 8 rebs, 1 block and Jorett Jones (193-G-89) 9 pts, 1 block.

Congratulations to Rico Black (180-G-75) and the Tiger Sharks for their championship!!!

Finals co - MVP went to Kirk 'Chengo' Burgess and Kelvin ' Kelly B' Gillett.

Cavalry repeat as CBA champions - by Eurobasket News
ALBANY, NY (February 8, 2009) -For the first time in 16 years the deciding game of the CBA Championship went into overtime, with the reigning CBA Champion Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry repeating as CBA Champion with a 109-107 victory. For his efforts, Shawn Daniels (6'7''-C-79, college: Utah St.) was named CBA Finals Most Valuable Player.

The game was one of runs as both teams traded shots. The Cavalry opened up a slight two-point lead after the first period but jumped out to an 8-0 run to start the second quarter. The Patroons battled back with a 6-0 run themselves but still trailed at halftime 53-46. The Cavalry stretched the lead out to 14 with 11 minutes left in the game before the Patroons went to work. Slowly chipping away at the lead, the Patroons got to within one several time but were unable to take the lead until a Harvey Thomas dunk with 15 seconds left put the Patroons ahead for the first time, 101-100. Unfortunately, for the Patroons a foul with 5 seconds left put Albert White (6'6''-G/F-77, agency: Paris Global Sports, college: Missouri) at the line with 5 seconds left. After White made only one of two the Patroons had a chance at the win but a Harvey Thomas three pointer rattled in and out and the game went into overtime.

In the overtime, it was Albert White time as he scored six of the Cavalry's eight points in overtime. The Cavalry jumped out to a four-point lead but the Patroons battled back and had the ball with almost eight seconds left in the game. Shawn Fountain drove down the lane and kicked it out to Harvey Thomas who took a three pointer that again rattled out and the Cavalry won their second consecutive Championship.

Albert White led the way for the Cavalry with 27 points. Elvin Mims (6'5''-G/F-79, college: S.Mississippi) had 22 points and Brandon Dean (6'2''-G-79, college: Arkansas) had 16 points. Finals MVP Shawn Daniels had his usual all-around game with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and a team high 5 assists. James Sullinger (6'5''-G-82, agency: 540 Sports, college: Ohio St.) had 27 points for the Patroons. Both Gabriel Freeman (6'6''-F-85, college: Costa Mesa JC) and Harvey Thomas had 26 points. Thomas had a game high 13 rebounds for the losing Patroons.

'It was a great way to end this season,' said CBA Commissioner Dennis Truax. 'Both teams had an opportunity to win the Championship and that's all you can ask for in a deciding game. Congratulations go out to the Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry, their players and staff on their second championship in as many years and to the Patroons organization for a fine showing all season long.

NOTES: This is the first time since the 1993-94 Finals that the deciding game went into overtime, when the Quad City Thunder defeated the Omaha Racers 132-127...Shawn Daniels and Elvin Mims both earned their third CBA Championship ring tonight....both joined Sidney Lowe and Anthony Goldwire as the only players with three CBA Championships...Michael Ray Richardson repeats as CBA Championship Head Coach, the first time since Paul Woolpert of the Yakama Sun Kings....first time ever two former CBA teammates from a Championship team faced each other as Head Coaches....

BK Prostejov Parts Ways with Shaun Pruitt - by Surujh Roopnarine

The BK Prostejov Eagles, winners of two in a row after Saturdays 75-67 road victory over Kolin, have decided to part ways with leading scorer and Mattoni NBL leading rebounder Shaun Pruitt (208-C-85, agency: N.E.T., college: Illinois).

His replacement is Belgian National Team center Sebastien Bellin (205-C-78, agency: Court Side, college: Oakland) who is on a try-out with the team. After falling out of the starting lineup on Wednesday (11 minutes), Pruitt was not with the team for Saturdays game in Kolin. Averaging 16.4 points (#3 in NBL) and a league-leading 9.9 rebounds per contest apparently was not enough for manager Peter Frederick. Pruitt, a rookie center out of Illinois was in his first pro-season after suffering through a school-worst 16-19 season for the Illini. A freshman member of the 2005 Illini NCAA Finalist squad (a team that featured Deron Williams, Luther Head, Dee Brown, Roger Powell, etc), Pruitts career peaked during his junior season when he named an All-Big-10 Third Team Selection, but his senior season did not see the same progress. After playing with New Orleans during the Vegas Summer League, Pruitt turned down other offers from European clubs to play in Prostejov. While statistically Pruitt was very impressive, a closer examination of his game showed some serious rookie-flaws that Prostejov, currently fourth in the NBL, felt they could no longer deal with. For example, Pruitt did not possess great court-vision, apparent in his 0.9 assist per game averages and numerous offensive fouls he accumulated per game. Also, while a dominant force inside, Pruitt has not been able to correct his horrendous free-throw shooting (46.2%) to capitalize on the fouls he draws. But aside from these performance flaws, as most players have, Pruitts lack of commitment to defense was probably the final nail in the coffin for his time at Prostejov. With the return of Ian Ian Hanavan (202-F-80, agency: Interperformances, college: Evansville) from injury and the emergence of Jason Miller (208-F/C-80, college: Oklahoma St.), Prostejov was re-enforced in the front-court and decided that now was the time to cut ties with a very talented, yet flawed young post man.

In Bellin, the Eagles find a replacement big man more committed to the defensive end of the court and reccomended for his play and determination by Ian Hanavan (former teammate).

Kazlauskas: It's an honor to be the head coach of Greek National Team - by Kostas Papadopoulos

Jonas Kazlauskas was officially presented today as the new head coach of Greek Basketball National Team, having as his assistant coach Giannis Sferopoulos , who is currently the head coach of Kolossos Rhodes and who has worked previously as an assistant coach of Jonas Kazlauskas at Olympiacos, as well.
At the press conference, where eurobasket.com was also present, the new coach stated that 'it is a big honor for me to be the head coach of Greek National Team, since it is a team that could reach at the first place of every competition that takes place. I will give all my energy and my knowledge to help the successes go on. At the past, I have seen many good things at the team, such as its point guards; everybody knows about them'.

Regarding the changes that he is thinking to bring at the team, Jonas Kazlauskas admitted that he cannot change everything in a short time. 'Certainly, we will change our way of playing; I have thought some different things and we will see them on practice in the near future'.
The new head coach of the National team had a phone communication with its ex-coach, Panagiotis Yannakis: 'he called me to express to me his support to this new attempt', he stated, and continued answering on a question about the possible calls to the two Greeks that play now at NBA and NCAA respectively: 'why not having Nick Kalathis (200-G-89) and Kosta Koufos (213-F/C-89, college: Ohio St.) in our roster? They are young talented players, but in any case it is not the right time to discuss about the roster. I will see them playing, through DVDs, since I would rather prefer staying here in Greece and experience of as many games as possible, Euroleague's and A1 championship, in order to get closer to the players'.
Concerning the friendly games that the Greek federation has already booked, before even finding the new head coach for the team, Jonas Kazlauskas reminded of his big experience of preparing national teams such as the ones of China and Lithuania: 'The Greek Fedeartion has already programmed nine friendlies before Eurobasket 2009, which I think are enough. Our players have all the abilities to be ready for what every competition needs.'
When asked about the fact that he is the second only foreigner as a head coach in the national team, Jonas Kazlauskas remembered China once more: 'I have done it for China, as well. But here, I am not just a coach; I admire the Greek National Team and generally the Greek Basketball.'
Finally, replying on a question about the thing that he firstly thinks that the Greek National Team would need, he emphasized on his attitude that the team should not only play the pick'n'roll: 'In China I told them that we needed a point guard, but here in Greece we have all that we need. Nothing important is missing, although there are players who could play at the Lithuanian or Spanish way of playing. That could help us when our pick'n'roll plays are not successful; in any case, I think it is too early to discuss about it.'
It should also be mentioned that Fanis Christodoulou (202-F-65) was also present at the press conference and when the president of FIBA Europe, Mr. Vasilakopoulos was asked about this fact, he answered that the veteran player has never abandoned the National Team and that he may help the team from a place in the near future.

Adam Emmenecker(Deutsche Bank Skyliners) Interview Part 2 - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber
23 year old Adam Emmenecker (185-G-85, college: Drake) is a 185cm Guard from Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School and continued to Drake University in Iowa. He didnt get too much playing time in his first few years, but made the most of his extended playing time in his last year averaging in 33 games 8.6ppg, 4.6rpg, 6.5apg, 1.6spg, FGP: 45.9%, FT: 83.3%. He is a BBL rookie playing his first season for The Deutsche Bank Skyliners averaging 1,8ppg, 2,0rpg and 1,5apg. He has the back up role behind captain Pascal Roller, but made his break through leading his team to the BBL Top 4 in Hamburg with a win in Braunschweig taking control of the game in the fourth quarter and ending with 13 points. In Part 2, Adam talks about Germany, his personal development, Murat Didin and the worldwide financial crisis

You have been some months in Frankfurt now. How well have you goten adjusted to Frankfurt?

I am very comfortable. I have a normal routine now. We practice a lot so I dont have so much free time. I hang out a lot with the players and it has been a very good experience in Frankfurt

What has given you the most enjoyment in Frankfurt??

The biggest difference between Germany and USA is that Germany is a lot older. I can see so many historical sights. Frankfurt is also the biggest city that I have lived in in my life. It is great having all this public transportation because I didnt have any of this from where I am from.

How do you see your Basketball development from September 2008 until Febuary 2009? What have you learned well and what things do you still need to work on?

Well I think that I have adjusted well to the level of European Basketball. I think I need to work on my consistency on shooting from outside.

Coach Murat Didin seem to have a lot of confidence with you. Do you have a lot of pressure not to disappoint him?

I feel pressure from many sides, but that is normal. We have to perform. It is my responsibility to give my best, play hard, smart and with a lot of intensity on defense. The personal pressure is a lot greater than any outside influences.

What are your personal goals this season?

I want to improve each day. I want to win the German cup and try to get better as a team.

What is still missing from The Deutsche Bank Skyliners so they can compete with 8 time BBL champ Alba Berlin?

Nothing is really missing. We have a complete team with 13 guys who can give good minutes. We have to play together, play our style and make the other team as uncomfortable as possible.

You could have been a business man, but chose to play ball in Europe. You had four business majors at Drake University in Iowa. How much do you follow the world wide finance crisis?

I am trying to keep up with what is happening with what is happening with the finance crisis world wide. I keep up with what my would be employer is doing and watching a lot of CNN.

What is your favourite place in Frankfurt to just relax?

I dont have a favorite place. Going to restaurants is entertainment for me and relaxation. That is a good way to unwind and get out of the apartment and gym.

Thanks Adam for the chat! Good luck the rest of the season!

National schools basketball championships start today Four groups, 17 teams, there can only be one winner - by Paul Haynes
The inaugural National Sports Commission (NSC) high school basketball championships will open today at 1:00pm with a gala ceremony scheduled for the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall in the presence of participating schools.
One of the coordinators of the event, Lavern Fraser told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that the two respective Ministers, Shaik Baksh and Frank Anthony will address the 17 schools expected to compete for the championship title.
Minister of Education, Baksh and Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Anthony will be collaborating on various projects in an effort to return sport to schools. The two had met over todays competition some time ago.
Director of Sport Neil Kumar, in a recent interview with this newspaper, had confirmed that the intention of the collaborative effort is to get basketball back in the schools after independent projects failed to full the void.
Kumar had first proposed the national schools basketball initiative after which he gave a mandate to Fraser for the execution phase. The Director of Sport had expressed concern over the playing of the sport nationally.
As a result, he said that he intends to hold this competition up as a standard with the hope that national junior and senior players will emerge. He informed that basketball is not the only sport that the commission will target. While the intention of this tournament is to make it a nationwide event, Kumar believes that they had to start somewhere, which is why only 17 schools will participate in this years inaugural basketball event.
The NSC had sent out over 40 invitations to various schools and the response has forced the organisers to restructure the format. Initially, the contest was slated as a knockout event in anticipation of more schools.
We have changed the format from what we had initially, we now have four groups with the top two teams in each group advancing to the knockout quarterfinal stage of the tournament, Fraser highlighted.
She also said that five games are slated for today from 2pm after Kumar takes the jump ball while six games will be played tomorrow. [The] schools are all expected to there for the opening ceremony in uniforms, she added.
Charlestown Secondary, Plaisance Community High, Guyana Industrial Trading Centre and Bishops High School will compete in Group A with Plaisance and Bishops going in as strong favourites to come out on top.
Guyana Technical Institute, Cove and Garden, New Campbellville Secondary and Guyana Educational Trust College comprise Group B. The technical institute are expected to this group if history repeats itself.
Group C has Critchlow Labour College, Central High School, Presidents College and East Ruimveldt Secondary. Presidents College national junior player, Richard Mohandat will be eager to showoff in this group.
As a result of the imbalance, five teams will compete in Group D, which includes Saint Stanislaus College, Saint Roses High, West Demerara, the Business School and Marian Academy in the weakest of the four groups.
The female competition has only attracted three teams: New Campbellville, Plaisance and Charlestown. Fraser informed that the three teams will play roundrobin to determine the winner while the male final is set for February 22.

Minister Anthony pleased with basketball turn out - by Paul Haynes
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCYS) Dr. Frank Anthony is pleased with the turn out of schools participating in the National Sports Commission Mashramani basketball competition.
So pleased was the minister with the 17 male teams participating in the inter- secondary schools invitational tournament that he promised incentives for the top two teams.
For (the team) winning this competition and runner-up, I promise you that a special package will be given to your school, Minister Anthony disclosed whilst indicating that the package might be some basketballs or possibly some backboards.
And, Director of Sport, Neil Kumar, deputizing for Minister of Education, Shaikh Baksh, said that it was the ministers pleasure to support such a programme.
The 17 male teams were divided into four groups.
There are also three female teams participating.
And, Dr. Anthony suggested that clubs should have their referees and umpires fees waived and promised the students that if they could show enthusiasm during this competition, such initiatives will be taken by his ministry.
Kumar said a larger competition was planned for July with the aim of making same an annual event.

Marian Academy sunk by one point; Bishops High rout GITC 45-0 - by Paul Haynes
THE Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Mashramani Inter-School basketball tournament continued yesterday with the same high intensity play as was the case on the opening day on Saturday.
In the feature game of the day, Saturdays winners Marian Academy watched a half-time lead of 15-11 slip away to St Stanislaus College when the buzzer sounded to signal the end of the game at 27-26.
St Stanislaus College, in the second half, employed the full court defence that Marian had executed in the first half to stave off a late surge in the dying minutes of the game.
In the cliffhanger, momentum shifted constantly but for the most part Marian controlled the game especially when coach and former Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) president Chris Bowmans players used the zone defence to slow down the scoring of Cowen Gittens and Jamal Scott.
This resulted in St Stanislaus turning over the ball 30 times as opposed to 23 times by Marian Academy.
St Stanislaus capitalised on a strategy of Marian when Bowman used playmaker and top scorer point guard Ruel Ritch to inbound the ball in the second half. At this time the only other player from Marian that looked comfortable against the constant onslaught of Saints was centre Jonathan De Groot who had picked up six defensive boards and 2 offensive boards.
In the end Gittens top-scored for Saints with a double when he netted 12 points and 11 rebounds while Scott supported with 11 points. Ritch scored 8 for the losers in the Group D encounter.
In the penultimate game of the day Group A powerhouse Bishops High School demolished the lowly Guyana Industrial Training Centre (GITC) 45-0. GITC sank themselves deeper and deeper into a quandary with missed shots, constant turnovers (23) and a shot at individual success.
Jerrick Rambissoon (14), Wainwright Haynes (10) and Ronald Jardin (10) had a field day when they sank 34 of the 45 points for Bishops. Rambissoon (5 rebounds, 10 steals and 3 turnovers), on the other hand, had a better all-round game than Haynes (3 rebounds, 5 steals and 6 turnovers).
Meanwhile, Charlestown inflicted a 32-8 trouncing on Plaisance High School. Orison Amsterdam was hot when he threw down 18 points while he was assisted Jamal Carbury and Jamal Darrel each contributed six points. Treyon Hamilton contributed four for Plaisance.
East Ruimveldt Multilateral School and Central High School had a much closer encounter as the former romped to a 30-20 victory.
Troy Bovell scored a game-high 14 points while Drexel Amsterdam had 12 for the winners. Denzel Nurse and Nicholas Cascius scored eight points each for Central in the Group C match-up.
Three matches are scheduled today from 16:00 h at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).

Ministries moving aggressively to have sports in schoolssays Anthony as NSC launches basketball championships - by Paul Haynes
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony informed that his ministry and the Ministry of Education are moving aggressively to have sports return to the schools curriculum in a new and strategic approach.
Anthony was speaking at the launching of the National Sports Commission (NSC) school basketball championships yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. He said the event is a manifestation of a collaborative effort.
We are very pleased to host this tournament in collaboration, its a new approach that we have. As we announced last year, the two ministries will have a very aggressive programme to have sports in schools, he said.
Anthony expressed elation over the launching of the tournament that Director of Sport, Neil Kumar initiated as part of a move to secure more players at the national level while returning basketball to the schools curriculum.
In that regard, Sean Erskine and Inga Henry, both of whom recently returned from Cuba with Degrees in Sports and Physical Education will help facilitate such programmes in unison with the Ministry of Education.
I am pleased today that we are launching this basketball competition and it gives that signal of what we will be doing in the schools, the minister indicated, adding that the success of the programme depends on collaboration.
We need the collaboration of teachers, who will have to help us ensure that these programmes are done properly in schools, to have their students get coaching and get them into teams, Anthony intimated.
He said that they also need the support of parents, who are responsible for channelling their children in the right direction. The minister noted that parents should focus on the holistic development of children.
A child should have a holistic development where sports play an integral part in that development and that is why I would like to urge parents to be part of this [schools] sports programme, Anthony encouraged.
The minister also appealed to the associations involved for their support. He said that referees and officials, for instance, could waive their fees for school tournaments so that expenditure could help expand the sport.
We dont have a lot of players; many times when we try to hold tournaments, officials and referees involved ask for fee to officiate at some of these games. So what I am asking is if they can waive that fee [for schools], he pleaded.
I dont mind if you charge for other games but let us work together to have sport in schools return to its rightful place, the minister urged the officials and referees, who will play a crucial role in the outcome of the event.
Anthony beseeched players to have a spirit of competitiveness but also have discipline as there are ways to deal with concerns apart from aggression. Play with the spirit of sportsmanship and have good behaviour, he said.
The minister promised the players that the ministry will be encouraged to have such event yearround if their enthusiasm is high.
He also vowed to put together a basketball package for the winning and runnerup teams. During his turn at the microphone, which was before Anthony, Kumar acknowledge the support the NSC received from both ministries in executing the project. According to Kumar, the ministries motivated the event.
I will support all school programmes, I consider you, the students, as our greatest assets, you are the people we should work with. I hope you students are aspiring to represent country at InterGuiana Games he added.
The National Director of Sport encouraged the national associations namely the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation and Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association to move in the direction of the schools. We at NSC [want the associations to know] that under the guidance and leadership of two ministries, we have only started this competition, we will be hosting a much bigger competition in July, Kumar boasted.
The competition involves some 17 male teams and three female teams and will be held every afternoon from 3:30pm with the final and third place games set for February 22 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Market movements - by Tamas Deri
Bryan McCullough (198-F/G-83, agency: AMI, college: NC-Asheville) is leaving Hungary. The american player started this season with Eurochallenge team Kormend but after 5 games and signed with Dombovar, where he played 10 games in the regular season. The 198 cm tall McCullough averaged 11.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists for the team of coach's Balind.

The management of Dombovar found already the replacement and invited Ben Adams (185-G-79, agency: Global Sports Plaza, college: New Orleans) on a tryout. The 185 cm tall guard is a well known player in our country as he played 13 games for Univer KSE two years ago, when he averaged: 12.6ppg, 2.9rpg, 2.8apg, 2.8spg, 2FGP: 43.0%, 3PT: 29.0%, FT: 67.0%. He did not play any professional game since he left our country.

KJ Garland (186-G-84, agency: AMI, college: NC-Asheville) and Nick DeWitz (203-F-82, college: Oregon St.) are leaving Kormend. The 186 cm tall American point guard spent 3 weeks with the team but his contract was not prolonged after his tryout. In 4 games he put up solid numbers: 10.5 ppg, 3.0 apg, 1.3 rpg, 1.0 spg, FGP: 53.6%, FT: 69.2%.
Dewitz arrived 10 days ago to the club and decided to leave after his tryout was over. He played one regular season game and one cup game where he had 23 points for the Red-and-Blacks.

The management and coaching staff of Kormend are still fighting for a playoff-spot this season and for this reason they invited American guard, Chris Rodgers (193-G-84, college: Arizona) on a tryout. The 193 cm tall guard had a solid NCAA-carreer on the very strong Arizona University. His first pro season he spent in the D-league. 2007-08 Rodgers played 15 games for Liege in Belgium and was one of the key players on the roster with 12.2ppg, 3.3rpg, 3.6apg, 1.9spg, 2FGP: 46.0%, 3PT: 36.0%, FT: 74.0%. After a good start in Europe he had not too much luck this season yet. He signed over his ex-agency with Bosna Sarajevo, but left after one game. He got an offer from Finland in January 2009 and played 3 games for Lamika Nahti before coming to our county. On the 31st of January he scored 24 points (4/8 3's), grabbed 10 rebounds and had also 4 steals in a 77-74 lose against Lappeenrana NMKY.

Ibrahim Jaaber (187-G-84, college: Pennsylvania) is averaging at 18,3 points with Fernando Gentile on the bench.
Against Biella was necessary also a solid performance by the solider Rodrigo De La Fuente (200-F-76, agency: Interperformances, college: Washington) 12 points and the two free throws for the victory.

Radoslav Rancik (207-F/C-79, agency: Beo Basket, college: St.Cloud St.) against Ferrara had 12 points in 15'. But was injured at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
But Benetton-Carife was the challenge between two double double king.

NGC CantU gained the most important victory of the week at Avellino.
In the last 9 games Cant is 7-2

The difference between Milano and Caserta was by 30 points.
But, most impressive, is notice that at rebound the challenge ended 48-22...

Top performer of the week Earl Boykins (168-G-76, college: E.Michigan).
Better, the 4th quarter of Virtus' pointguard.
25 points with 12-12 from the line.
32 at the end.

Thriller of the week.
At Bologna, Achara hits the jump shot for the +1 at 1.17' of the end.
Montegranaro called the timeout.
Refree didn't ear table-whistel.
Costas Vasiliadis (200-G/F-84, agency: FCM) took a shot from the middle court and the time started again. But there was the timeout before.
The only problem was that is impossible to put the chrono at 1.17'...
So, the refrees had to count the time with their mind...
Ricky Minard (194-G/F-82, college: Morehead St.) received the ball and put a shot from 10 meters.
In 1.17' or more?
Refrees denied the basket and Gimac Bologna won the game.
For the thriller of week.

Louisville rallies to defeat St. Johns without Samuels - by Leonard Whyte
New York, NY (02-09-2009) - No.5 University of Louisville Cardinals had to call upon defense to bail them out on Saturday night against a tough St. Johns University team in a Big East encounter played at 'The World's Most Famous Arena' - Madison Square Gardens. The Cardinals came from behind to secure the 60-47 victory, but the story of the game was the injury to Samardo Samuels. The freshman center, who before the injury, was the only effective offensive player for the Cardinals, was hit in the face by an elbow with 2:30 left in the first half after connecting on 4-of-4 from the field. He lost two teeth and was taken to a local hospital. Samuels is expected to be fine and should be ready to go in the Cardinals next game on Thursday at the University of Notre Dame. Louisville, 18-4 overall and 9-1 in the Big East, were held to a season low 19 first half points and trailed 22-19 before outscoring St. Johns 41-25 in the second half.

Cedarville stuffs NDC in an all-Jamaican affair - by Leonard Whyte
South Euclid, OH (02-09-2009) - Senior center Daniel Rose swatted away a school-record 11 shots as Cedarville University defeated Notre Dame College 64-53 last night in an American Mideast Conference (AMC) game that featured five Jamaicans. Rose, Cedarvilles all-time leading shot blocker, also scored 11 points in the second half to finish with a double-double, as the Yellow Jackets tallied a team-high 14 blocks to surpass the old school mark of 12 set 22 seasons ago . Forward Ricardo Alliman chipped-in with 10 points while forward Christopher Walker added eight points to lead the No. 4-ranked Cedarville to a 24-3 overall record and 9-1 AMC. Center Karim McFarlane, NDC leading scorer, was held to just 12 points while forward Paul Spencer added two points as NDC fell to 16-9 overall and 5-4 AMC.

Last-second free throw dooms Valparaiso - by Leonard Whyte
Detroit, MI (02-09-2009) - Sophomore guard Michael Rogers scored a game-high 12 points for Valparaiso University but his team fell 56-55 to the University of Detroit on Saturday afternoon in a Horizon League encounter. Jordan lifts Tulsa past UTEP - by Leonard Whyte
Tulsa, OK (02-09-2009) - Junior center Jerome Jordan scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the University of Tulsa extended its winning streak to five games with a 76-65 win over the University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP) on Saturday afternoon in a Conference USA clash. Jordan, who went 7-of-13 from the field, had three blocks but altered numerous other shots and was partly the reason UTEP shot a meager 30.2 percent from the field. Tulsa won its 17th game of the season against only seven losses and improved to 7-2 in conference play. On Wednesday they will try to avenge a 55-54 last-second loss to No. 14 University of Memphis suffered on January 13th when they face the Tigers for the second time this season. Game time is 7:00 p.m. CT.
