B.C. Bosna: Sehovac resigns, Parezanin new coach, players punished - by Sead Buljina
Bosna`s head coach Goran Sehovac resigned following a home loss vs. Cedevita. 'I have not properly prepared our team for the pressure they had to face. Thus, players kept missing open shots. I accept all responsibility and leave the post. Nothing can change my decision,' said Sehovac after the game. Bosna had a chance to beat Cedevita but managed to score only 28 points in the second half.

Bosna named Dejan Parezanin as a new head coach. Parezanin has played for European champion Partizan during `80s and `90`s before coming to Bosna in 2003. He finished his playing career in 2005 and started working as a head coach in Bosna`s back-then sister club Vogosca (D2). He won D2 championship and led the team to D1. After one season as a head coach in D1 Parezanin became Bosna assistant coach and finally Bosna youth selections chief coach. His position will now take over Senad Redzic, while Parezanin will choose his assistants. New head coach has only two days to prepare his team for a game vs. Siroki in the Adriatic league. 'I`m glad that I got an opportunity to be the head coach. It`s an honor to be B.C. Bosna head coach. Good or bad timing this is a big chance for me,' said Parezanin. Indeed, Bosna is finally complete after many injuries. Zarko Rakocevic and Milan Milosevic have reinforced the club, Zlatko Jovanovic has recovered and Bosna has a team for winning championship and Cup titles. In the Adriatic league Helios has won only one more game, while Siroki and FMP have only two wins more before the end of the season. There are 9 more rounds to play and next game is against Siroki. At the same time FMP and Helios play each other in next round. There is actually great opportunity for Bosna to achieve its goals this season especcially after playing and coaching crises in Siroki.

Ironically, Bosna management has decided after game vs. Cedevita to punish all players with deduction of one monthly payroll check. Reason? 'Poor performance' against strong Cedevita. Ironic, because players have played hard all this time. All those missed shots? The ball didn`t go in, so what? Players allowed Cedevita only 35 points in the second half putting up a good fight. Their punishment is rather management`s revenge for a seven day strike prior to the season hollidays.

Chinos score 14 in a loss - by David Edole
Sheffield Sharks - Cook 28, Toney 20, Tuck 16
Essex Pirates - Adu 22, George 14, Hundert 11

There was no BBL Cup Final hangover for the Sheffield Sharks as they beat the Essex Pirates 101-77 to hold off the Newcastle Eagles at the top of the BBL Championship table.

The Sharks won the Cup on Sunday, led by Mike Cooks 19 points, and he followed that performance with 28 tonight. Tafari Toney added 20 and smashed a basket in dunking for two of those, delaying the game.

The game was close through the first half, and in the opening minutes Todd Cauthorns three-pointer broke a 5-5 tie. Toney scored the next 8 points for the Sharks as they established a 16-11 lead, while former Shark Randy George (200-F-81, college: Henderson St.) kept the scoreboard ticking over for the visitors. Mike Cook made back-to-back baskets to ensure that the Sharks led 22-17 by the end of the first quarter.

The Sharks couldnt extend their lead much further in the second period, despite Cook coming alive for 10 points. He scored 4 in an opening 6-0 burst as the lead broke through the double-digit barrier at 28-17, and it peaked at 35-21 after his triple and a score from Tuck. But the Pirates reined the Sharks back in as Williams and Hundert hit consecutive three-pointers in an 8-0 tear; that was followed by another Hundert trey that helped trim the deficit to 40-36. Toney halted their progress and the teams scrapped their way to 48-42 at the half.

The Sharks made their move in the third quarter with runs of 9-4 and 8-2 that pushed the lead out to 65-48, and they led 72-55 by the end of the period. Toney extended the lead to 79-57 in the final quarter, before holding up the game with his dunking antics with 5.55 remaining. The Sharks struggled to score after returning from the break, but finished with a 9-4 run to break through the century mark.

Rilski Sportist still without an away win, big win for Lukoi Academic - by Valentin Anguelov
Rilski Sportist was losing only by a point with one minute to play in the third quarter but in the end let Chernomorets outplay them and continue to have no win in a away game in NBL. The players of young head coach Decho Koeshinov won their fourth game of the season with 105-94. The hosts played a strong game and deserved their win. After this loss for Rilski the team has no chance of reaching the top four before the second part of the season.
The last quarter started with a 4-point advantage for the hosts and after they scored the first four baskets had a 12-point lead with 7 minutes to play. The visitors did manage to cut their deficit to 5 but the players of Chernomorets reacted well and pulled ahead once again to take the win.
Plamen Aleksiev (180-G-84) led the winners with 23 points and 14 assists while Dwayne Morton and Martin Durchev scored 17 apiece.
For the visitors from Samokov the captain Aleksandar Gruev scored a game high 25 points, 20 added Lamont Jones while Simeon Naydenov scored 19.

Third year guard and former NBA Draft Pick JamesOn Curry (6'4''-G-86, college: Oklahoma St.) has been signed to a 10-day contract by the Los Angeles Clippers. The Springfield Armor point guard has started all 19 games he appeared in this season, averaging 16.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.5 steals in 41.2 minutes. He has spent most of the past three seasons in the D-League, first with Iowa for the 2007-08 and 08-09 seasons, and now Springfield. He also played briefly for Pau-Orthez in France last season. Curry will take up some minutes expected to be available now that Sebastian Telfair (6'0''-G-85) will miss the next four to six weeks with a groin injury. The Clippers also announced that they have waived one-time Missouri Tigers star Kareem Rush (6'6''-F-80, college: Missouri) who underwent season-ending ACL surgery in November.

KORISLIIGA: Damon Williams 35 pts/14 rbs - by Rauno Hurmalainen
Korisliiga, round 28: Very interesting round tonight. Actually just one clear win, when Kouvot (Kouvola) crushing Vilpas (Salo) 94-74 and Ajene Moye (193-G-82, college: Indiana) leading the hosts with 24 points. All other four games were more or less thrillers. FT shooting seems to be sometimes very difficult. Sharpshooter Sami Pekkola (200-F-83) (YMCA LPR) missed both FTs five seconds to go (64-64) and Tuukka Kotti (205-F/C-81, college: Providence) (Honka) then scored at the buzzer 64-66 sweet win for Honka. That was game # 600 for Honka on the top level in Finland. Kimmo Kujansivu was the new Coach at the end of Honka bench. Gordon Herbert had to quit at this stage because of back problems and pains. In Kotka Top League leading scorer Ricky Hickman (190-G-85, agency: Court Side, college: NC-Greensboro) (YMCA Lahti) missed four FTs during the last 1,5 minutes and KTP won 94-90. Both teams missed too many FTs: KTP 53,3% (16/30), YMCA Lahti 55,5% (15/27). Eric Washington (KTP) on injured list (knee) and DNP. In Uusikaupunki local Korihait lost the fourth quarter 13-23 and by the same the contest (68-78) vs Karhu (Kauhajoki). Reggie Golson (201-F-81, agency: Court Side, college: SE Missouri St.) and Jeremiah Wood (200-F-85, agency: Court Side) were in great shape. In Helsinki visitor Pyrinto (Tampere) got a slow start, but won the third quarter 13-32 and came back to the game. Pyrinto's zone defense was poison for ToPo and at the same time ToPo's 'D' was like open doors tonight. Damon Williams (201-F-73, college: Colorado St.-Pueblo) (Pyrinto) was the game MVP: 35 pts and 14 rbs.
Kouvot - Vilpas 94-74 (52-28) (AJ Moye 24, Antti Kanervo 20, Ross Neltner 18 - Charlie Burgess 19/10, Lawrence Hamm 17/13, Samu Kaaresvirta 14).
YMCA Lappeenranta - Honka 64-66 (37-34) (Robert Turner 21, Adam Hall 11 - Carl Elliott 19, Jukka Matinen 14, Tuukka Kotti 13).
KTP - YMCA Lahti 94-90 (48-42) (Isaac Spencer 25/18, Ryan McDade 19/17, Pasi Heinonen 14 - Ricky Hickman 33, Corey Rouse 16, Ray Nixon 13).
Korihait - Kauhajoki 68-78 (38-34) (AZ Reid 18, Darryl Hudson 15, Mikko Jalonen 11 - Reggie Golson 19, Jeremiah Wood 17/16, Maurice Horton 13).
Torpan Pojat - Pyrinto 89-100 (50-38) (Obie Trotter 32, Tyray Pearson 16, Samuel Haanpaa 12 - Damon Williams 35/14, Chris Hester 19, Kenny Lowe 18).

KORISLIIGA: Unlucky Matthew Gibson - by Rauno Hurmalainen
YMCA Lappeenranta American Guard Matthew Gibson's (196-G-84, U. of Hawaii) season is over. Gibson fell last night in the middle of the opening quarter when playing vs Honka (Espoo), broke his armbone and suffered a fracture in his wrist. Gibson has been operated, but there is no chance to play anymore during this season. Gibson adjusted well into Finnish basketball and was helping his Team in 22 games with averages 15,4 ppg, 4,8 rpg, 3,7 apg and 3,1 spg. YMCA LPR Head Coach Jarmo Laitinen is probably
after a new American G to replace Matt Gibson. There are still 16 games left out of the regular season + the play-off-games.

Aisin continues dominance as they trounce Bravethunders - by John Scribe
For the first time in its recent dynasty, the Aisin Seahorses seem unbeatable.

Aisin, now 20-4, demolished the third-place Toshiba Bravethunders 77-59 today, and showed that there is probably not too many teams that will come close as the team makes its conquest to three-peat for the second time in franchise history.
Tonight, import Josh Gross (201-F/C-83, college: NC-Greensboro)s led the charge with 19 points, and naturalized center J.R. Henderson-Sakuragi and last year's MVP Kousuke Takeuchi followed with 18 points each in HIratsuki.

The Bravethunders (14-10), put up a fight through Shohei Kikuchi's weekend average of 20.5 points, but was not able to put a dent in the Seahorses' armor.

In other JBL action, last place Mitsubishi (2-21) was clipped by Hitachi 69-60, as the score was not indicative of how the Sunrockers controlled the game. The Sunrockers held a 20 point lead to enter the fourth quarter and controlled the final stanza despite the Dolphins' rally.

At the White Cube, the Toyota Alvark (13-10), which is fighting for the last playoff spot against Tochigi squeezed past Rera Kamuy Hokkaido (6-17), 83-77 off of veteran Charles O' Bannon's 20 points. Hokkaido, lead by Takehiko Orimo (17 points) had a one point advantage in the first half and had the game in their grasps until the Alvark pulled away with a 28 point fourth quarter. Forward Michael Takahashi, who had been relatively quiet this season followed O' Bannon with 17 points and had a team-high 12 rebounds.

In the final game of the day, National Team guard Takuya Kawamura entertained the crowd with 35 points against the Panasonic Trians (14-9), and kept its spot at fourth place in the standings. The Tochigi Brex, which cut center Reggie Okosa last week was short handed in the middle, but Kawamura and fellow National Team guard Ken Takeda (17 points) sparked the team from the perimeter. The Trians had balanced scoring as G Hiroyuki Kinoshita scored 21 points followed by 16 points from Ace Custis and 15 from Tadahiro Yanagawa. The results could have been better for Panasonic if Jerald Honeycutt could have shot better. Honeycutt, nearly had a double-double but struggled from the field as he shot 3/15 from the field.

Braswell stars as Breakers defeat Gold Coast - by Mike Lacey
New Zealand Breakers kept their play off hopes alive with a come from behind 95-81 over the Gold Coast Blaze at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on Saturday night. After his heroics on Thursday night when he scored 49 points against Adelaide, Kirk Penney was well held by Adam Gibson returning to the Blaze line up after injury. Penney shot just 4 from 18 for 14 points as the Blaze opened up a more than handy 24-21 first quarter advantage which was extended to 51-44 by half time. Breakers fresh signing Kevin Braswell (188-G-79, agency: Priority Sports, college: Georgetown), who had been relatively quiet in his first two games led all scorers with 22 points (6 from 10 from the field) as the Breakers dominated the second half.
He gained great support from veterans TONY RONALDSON (6 from 9) and CJ BRUTON ( (5 from 13) who had 17 points apiece. Bruton passed 6500 ANBL points in the process, the 23rd player to achieve this milestone (391 games @ 16.7ppg).
DILLON BOUCHER and RICK RICKERT dominated the boards as the Breakers defence smothered the Blaze in the second half keeping the home side to just 30 points in that time.. Boucher collected his 1000th rebound (222 games @ 4.5rpg) on his way to 11 for the game and Rickert added 12 points to 10 rebounds for his 4th double double of the campaign, his 22nd overall for the Breakers.

The Breakers now head off to Townsville for a Wednesday evening clash with the Crocodiles looking to win three in a row for the first time this season. They will be encouraged by their two wins and comfortable in the knowledge that they have won on each of their last three visits to Townsville.

  PORTUGAL

American-Portuguese David Vik has joined CAB - by Antonio Santos
American-Portuguese player David Vik (210-C-72, college: Washington St.) has signed with CAB Madeira. He is an important addition to the roster, not counting as an import player has he is the holder of a Portuguese passport.

David is a veteran 37 year old player who can, at 6'11, not only play with his back to the basket, but also hit the mid and long range jumper.

Having played college ball at Washington St., he as a long resume of playing for several Portuguese teams, as well as time spent in Australia, Bolivia, Finland, Japan, Switzerland, Spain and Uruguay. A true globetrotter who can be the addition CAB Madeira needs for securing a playoff spot.

It's important to point out that both Casino Figueira Ginasio and Vagos Norbain Lusavouga have, as recently as last week, added players to their roster (Jason Hartford (206-F/C-85) and Nuno Perdigao (194-G-78)). Illiabum Clube had, a little earlier, added experience with Francisco Rodrigues (192-G-78). This leaves teams like Fisica Desportiva de Torres Vedras, Sampaense Basket and Barreirense/Unilogos, more worried about relegation. If it doesn't, it should.

David Vik (210-C-72, college: Washington St.) has already played this weekend, being used for just under 20 minutes, posting 6 points and 5 rebounds on an easy 101-87 win against Sampaense Basket.
