Adriatic League round 4 best performance: Bojan Bogdanovic - by Eurobasket News
Bojan Bogdanovic (202-G/F-89) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for KK Cibona VIP Zagreb, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4.
The 21-year old player was the main contributor (33 points, three rebounds) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out U.Olimpija (#7, 3-1) 84-81. Cibona maintains the 6th position in Adriatic League 1C_A. Cibona is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 2-2 record. In the team's last game Bogdanovic had a remarkable 88.9% from 2-point range and got three three-pointers out of 7 attempts. It's his second year at Cibona and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Bojan Bogdanovic has solid league stats. He is league's best scorer averaging so far 26.0ppg. Bogdanovic is in league's top in and averages impressive 65.6% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 31-year old American Corsley Edwards (206-C/F-79, agency: Impact Basketball) of Cedevita Zagreb. Edwards had a very good evening with 27 points and 3 rebounds. Bad luck as Cedevita lost that game 72-80 to the higher-ranked Partizan (#5, 2-2). Cedevita is still in a red zone at 11th spot in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 3-1 record is not bad and everything may still change. Edwards is a newcomer at Cedevita, but is already the team's top player. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 17.8ppg (#5). He also registered 5.5 boards per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was swingman Marko Car (188-G/F-85) of KK Zadar (#14). They have extremely bad season and 1-3 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Car he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Car has individually a great season in Adriatic League. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.0ppg (9th best) and rebounds with 6.3rpg (9th best).

Lukoil Academic won the Derby against Levski - by Valentin Anguelov
Lukoil Academic won the second round NB League derby against Levski. They beat their rival from the final of last year championship by the score of 88-72. That was the second victory of guests from two games played and thus took leadership of the Championship. Lukoil took comfortable lead for the first time at the beginning of the third quarter, but Levski came back soon after and were able to challenge for awhile. However the champions took over and run away for good in the second part of the last quarter and won by 16 points margin.

Dominic James (180-G-86, college: Marquette) was the most efficient for the winners with 16 points. Very good game for Bozhidar Avramov, who ended with 14 points and 4 assists, while Travis Peterson scored 14 points.

For the hosts the only player at his best was Aaron Harper, who finished with 29 points. Pavel Ivanov added 11 points, but there was no significant help from other players of the team to surprise such a strong squad as Lukoil Academic.

One word for officiating in the game - the only referee on top in this derby was surprisingly Mladen Markov while those with more international experience such are Vladimir Tsekov and especially Dimitar Gologanov were by far from their best.

During the week Levski will accept Slavonski Brod in Balkan League match, while in the next round of NBL 'The blues' will go to Varna to visit Cherno More. Lukoil Academic from other side will host Chernomorets with their former player Priest Lauderdale next Saturday.

BK Decin will need more victories to improve their 3-2 record. Houska has many years of experience at BK Decin, through which he has constantly improved. Pavel Houska has solid league stats. He is in league's top in rebounds (7th best: 7.8rpg).

The second best player in last round's games was another BK Decin's star - 26-year old American Wiliam Hatcher (188-G-84, agency: Limelight Hoops). Hatcher had a very good evening with 26 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. It was enough for BK Decin to edge slightly lower-ranked BC Kolin (#7, 2-3) 81-75. This victory allowed BK Decin to move up to 5th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 3-2 record is not bad and everything may still change. Hatcher is one of the most experienced players at BK Decin and similarly like Pavel Houska has a reputation of the team's most reliable player. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 18.6ppg (#1). He also recorded 3.4 assists per game.

Third on the list of top players last round was American guard Terry Smith (185-G-86) of BC Kolin (#7). Smith scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds. Despite Smith's great performance BC Kolin lost 75-81 to slightly higher-ranked BK Decin (#5, 3-2). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of BC Kolin ranking at the top of the league, however are very questionable as they have already lost 3 games, recording just two victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Smith could help BC Kolin to bring them higher in the standings. Smith has a great season in Czech Republic. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 17.2ppg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:

Hungarian A Division round 4 best performance: Josh Wilson - by Eurobasket News
American guard Josh Wilson (188-G-87, agency: Beggs and Lane) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Kaposvari KK, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 4.
The 23-year old player was the main contributor (43 points, five rebounds and four assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Szedeak (1-3) 74-67. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on the top of the standings. Despite this victory Kaposvari dropped to the 11th position in Hungarian A Division. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 3 games and recorded just one victory. In the team's last game Wilson had a remarkable 75.0% from 2-point range and got seven three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He turned to be Kaposvari's top player in his first season with the team. Former Northern Arizona University star has very solid stats this year. Wilson is league's best scorer averaging so far 23.8ppg. Wilson is in league's top in and averages impressive 61.9% FGP and 50.0% from behind 3-point line.

The second best player in last round's games was young international swingman David Vojvoda (191-G/F-90, agency: Laszlo Vinko Services) of league's second-best Zalakeramia-ZTE KK. Vojvoda had a very good evening with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Of course ZTE KK cruised to a 89-80 relatively comfortable win over the lower-ranked PVSK Pannon (#12, 1-3). ZTE KK's second position in the standings has not changed. A very good start of the season for his team, which won so far all 4 games without any defeat. Vojvoda is a newcomer at ZTE KK, but is already the team's top player.

Third on the list of top players last round was American center Bryson McKenzie (211-C-83) of Del Konstrukt-SZTE-Szedeak (#13). McKenzie scored 23 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Despite McKenzie's great performance Szedeak lost 67-74 to Kaposvari (1-3). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Szedeak can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-3 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for McKenzie he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. McKenzie has a very solid season. In 4 games in Hungary he scored 18.0ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Tamas Kaman (200-F/G-79) of ZTE KK - 23 points and 10 rebounds

23-year old forward Maciej Ustarbowski (201-F-87) put on an amazing game in the last round for JKKS Gornik Walbrzych and receives a Eurobasket.com 1Liga Player of the Week award for round 6.
He had a double-double of 26 points and 17 rebounds, while his team beat Polonia 2011 (#14, 1-5) 78-70. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on the top of the standings. Despite this victory JKKS Gornik Walbrzych dropped to the 10th position in Polish 1Liga. JKKS Gornik Walbrzych is rather weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 2-4 record. Ustarbowski turned to be JKKS Gornik Walbrzych's top player in his first season with the team. Northwest Missouri State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Ustarbowski is league's best scorer averaging so far 21.3ppg and leads league in rebounds with 10.0rpg. Ustarbowski is in league's top in and averages solid 3.8spg and 53.3% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Sebastian Okola (197-F-85) of SKK Siedlce. He is a forward in his first season at SKK Siedlce. In the last game Okola recorded impressive double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds. It was enough for SKK Siedlce to edge Start Lublin (2-4) by 2 points 63-61. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. SKK Siedlce dropped in the standings to 12th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 2-4 record. Okola is a newcomer at SKK Siedlce and quickly became the team's new leader.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Marcin Stoklosa (188-G-77) of KS Spojnia Stargard Szczecinski (#15). Stoklosa scored 23 points and passed four assists. Despite Stoklosa's great performance KS Spojnia Stargard Szczecinski lost 68-77 to the league's current leader Tempcold AZS (#1, 6-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. KS Spojnia Stargard Szczecinski can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-5 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Stoklosa he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Stoklosa has individually a great season in Poland. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 6.0apg (2nd best).

Sodertalje Kings is the only team undefeated in the Swedish League, and tonight they improved their record to 5-0 after beating Orebro, in what suprsingly was a close contest, despite Orebro missing Andrew Pleick. While Solna, Norrkoping, LF and Sundsvall was thought to be this years only candidates for a championship, Sodertalje seems to want to prove doubters wrong. Head Coach Vedran Bosnic must be a happy man theese days, as he can right now put a 100% winning record on his CV- as this is his first year as Head Coach after beeing assistant coach the last two years. Sodertalje also should be happy to seem to have found a real steal in Johnell Smith, who truly seems to be among the best, if not THE best, player in the Swedish League.

TT players impress in new pro season! - by Albert-Lee Young
Several Trinidad & Tobago national team players made impressive starts at the 2010 international circuit pro season.

Heading the list is national team co-captain Wilfred Spongy Benjamin with a dominant performance of 37 points & 16 rebs for his new team, CD Boston College Santiago, on October 23 in Chile.

From beginning to end the Bostonians clearly dominate the contest for a 106-99 win. Thanks to a brilliant first time starring role and solid work from the 6-7 Trinitarian pole, Spongy, the Eagles left no room for hesitation in beating their rival classic, Liceo, in the newly top Chilean league, LIGA NACIONAL.

Meanwhile in Japan, TT national team co-captain, Kibwe Trim, tipped off his pro career in the Japanese BJ league on October 18 with a solid performance.

Playing for Kyoto Hannaryz Trim posted up 18 points & 9 rebounds in a 75-64 win over Oita H.Devils in their regular season opener. The 6-10 center previously played in Romania during the last two seasons.

In another BJ match-up on October 23, 6-9 power forward/center Julius Ashby scored 12 pts for his new team, Niigata Ablirex, against Akita. But Akita outscored their opponents 22-12 in the last period to grab a valuable 73-72 win over Niigata Albirex. Ashby played with Tokyo Apache last season.

High Hopes of Harrison - by Paul Nilsen
An upbeat EJ Harrison (186-G-76, college: Connecticut) was today reflecting on a change in fortune for Glasgow Rocks who stopped a worrying three game BBL Championship losing streak in comprehensive fashion over the weekend with back to back road wins at Worcester and Plymouth.

Having headed into the double header under extreme pressure and potentially facing a five game losing streak had things not gone their way, the Rocks emerged unscathed and successful which means they will now head into their next BBL Championship fixture with real confidence.

A perfect weekend has really lit a fire under the clubs season and point guard Harrison claims it evidences that their early season slump was not an accurate reflection of the teams talent.

This was a very good weekend for us. explained Harrison.

All last week Sterl got us really motivated for these two games and fortunately for us, we came out on top in both.

It was definitely a team effort and very much a team weekend.

We shot the ball pretty swell from outside and different guys contributed when we needed it in both games.

I think it also shows that we are a good team that just got off to a bit of a bad start.

You always have ups and downs each season but we feel that this was about showing what kind of team we really are.

He added, You always get injuries each year but if we can stay as healthy as possible then I really do think we can make a noise come the end of the season.

The Rocks certainly did it the hard way on Saturday night at Worcester when they trailed by double-digits but much to the dismay of WolvesHead Coach Paul James, the visitors overturned the deficit with a Nick Livas score in the dying seconds to eek out an 81-79 win.

Their 87-75 success against UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders on Sunday was a little more comfortable thanks to some terrific leadership from Davis who thanks to some stunning three-point shooting, led the way with 23 points alongside Mike Copeland who finished with the same number on the scorer-sheet.

Raiders meanwhile were left ruing their inconsistency and lack of perimeter defence on Davis and they have still not chalked up a first league win this season having also lost on Friday night 96-85 against Mersey Tigers.

They are however not the only winless team at the foot of the table with Worthing Thunder, Essex Pirates and Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders all having drawn blanks in their continued search for an opening BBL Championship victory.

Thunder and the Pirates both made long trips North on Friday night but the pair left empty handed as One Health Sharks Sheffield kept their unbeaten record in tact with a comfortable 107-84 success against Worthing while Newcastle Eagles steamrollered Essex 112-43.

Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders suffered their first home court loss since January as they almost pulled off a great escape against Cheshire Jets but just fell short in crunch time to go down 71-66.

Having trailed by as many as sixteen, the home team launched an astonishing fight back to get within one point but Jets not only clung on by their fingernails to secure the win but also to remain early pacesetters in the BBL Championship with a perfect four wins from their first four league games.

BBL Week: 4 (Regular Season) - by Eurobasket News
Leicester R. - Cheshire J. 66-71
There was more joy for Cheshire Jets who maintained their perfect record in the BBL Championship with a hard fought 71-66 success at Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders as the hosts lost on their own court for the first time in nine months. Jeremy Bell (183-G-83, agency: World Sport Agency, college: Williams Baptist) was the leading scorer in victory with 20 points. JR Blount (185-G, agency: ZAG Advocates, college: Loyola (IL)) collected 23 points and 8 boards in loss.

Worcester W. - Glasgow R. 79-81
This BBL Championship win was particularly precious for Sterling Davis (200-F-77, college: Tulane) and his out of sorts Glasgow Rocks side who went into the game at Worcester under real pressure having lost three consecutive league games. Even more impressive was the fact they were down by double digits and with a fourth defeat in a row looming large, they showed terrific character to firstly work their way back into the game and then sneak it 81-79 with a last-gasp basket by Nick Livas. EJ Harrison (186-G-76, college: Connecticut) top-scored in victory with 17 points. Justin Dobbins (203-F-87, college: E.Michigan) had 18 pts and 9 boards in defeat.

Plymouth R. - Glasgow R. 75-87
While the away team arrived full of confidence it was the home team who found themselves in front at 10-9 after the initial exchanges but Rocks soon found their range from outside and that put some early daylight between the teams. Sterling Davis and Moses Mubarak (192-G-86) sunk back to back triples for the visitors and that put them in front at 15-10. They then extended their advantage further when Davis landed another one from downtown to help his team to a healthy 25-17 lead. Things might have been even worse for the Raiders had Cody Toppert not responded in kind almost instantly but despite his perimeter score, the Raiders still trailed by eight points at the end of the first period at 28-20. Within a minute, Nick Livas established the first double-figure lead of the game for the visitors. It looked like it might be slipping away for the hosts but they steadied themselves and when Evaldas Zabas (198-F-88) converted a three-pointer with six minutes to go until the break, it made it a one shot game at 38-35. Things got even better for the home team when they got to within a point at 40-39 but the Rocks then finished the half with a flourish as their hot streak from outside continued as Davis drained yet another triple to hand his team a 48-43 advantage heading into the second half. With home fans still dreaming of a first BBL Championship win at the interval with their team keeping in touch, those dreams became a little more distant when Raiders emerged stone cold from the locker rooms. The visitors took full advantage and posted a 13-2 run which helped them into a commanding position at 61-45. To their credit, the hosts did respond and by the end of the third period had cut the Rocks' lead in half at 68-60. Ideally Raiders needed a strong start to the final quarter to get Rocks sweating a little but as hard as they worked, it simply didn't arrive. Consequently the visiting team managed to keep their opponents at a comfortable arms length until the final buzzer had sounded. *Courtesy of BBL (www.bbl.org.uk)

BBL Team Of The Week - Week Six - by Paul Nilsen
The BBL Team Of The Week after the sixth weekend of the season is one of the most exciting to date with one player making a staggering third appearance, another enjoying such a good weekend he produced two performances worthy of the starting five and the inclusion of a BBL star of the future.

Yes, its never dull when it comes to our fabulous five each week and having been dominated recently by frontcourt players in some super-sized line-ups, its the revenge of the backcourt this time as we go for a three-guard combo!

Before we get into it, we should probably tip our collective hats in admiration for One Health Sharks Sheffield who for the second time in three weeks have two players in our line-up while Newcastle Eagles accomplish that same feat for the first time.

Leading the way is veteran and former league MVP Trey Moore who makes the team for the first time this season. The Newcastle Eagles player produced the joint best performance of the week with a valuation ranking of 29 after securing 19 points, 7 assists and 4 steals as the Eagles routed Essex Pirates at Sports Central.

Joining Moore is team-mate and Eagles young gun Aaron Nielsen (183-G) with the young shooter making the BBL Team Of The Week for the very first time in his fledgling career. The player is of course flying the flag not only for young British talent but also as a Geordie who has developed through the programme of his hometown club. Nielsen fired 14 points after lighting it up from outside with four triples as well as 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

The classy Ryan Patton meanwhile makes a quick return to the starting five for his second appearance of the season having posted 22 points, 5 rebounds and a super 8 assists for One Health Sharks Sheffield against Worthing Thunder. Patton continues to cement his reputation as one of the top performers in BBL and it is unlikely to be the last time we see the guard make an appearance.

Even more impressive is Sharks team-mate Mike Tuck who completes a hat-trick of appearances after another powerful display, also against Worthing Thunder as Sharks continue their impressive start to the new campaign in the BBL Championship. Tuck registered a valuation of 29 after scoring 19 points off the back of 9 of 11 floor shooting and he did it in style by completing a double-double thanks to ten rebounds.

You probably think the efforts of Tuck would be unbeatable but Sterling Davis who completes our line-up had such a stellar weekend that he qualified to get into the starting five not once but twice! He led by example all weekend to inspire his team to back to back wins against Worcester Wolves and UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders. It was his performance against the latter which was the pick after he claimed 23 points including some sensational perimeter scoring. He dropped four of five from outside in a terrific effort by the player-coach!

BBL Team Of The Week

Trey Moore (Newcastle Eagles)
Ryan Patton (One Health Sharks Sheffield)
Aaron Nielsen (Newcastle Eagles)
Mike Tuck (One Health Sharks Sheffield)
Sterling Davis (Glasgow Rocks)

Off The Bench

Charles Smith (Newcastle Eagles), Moses Mubarak (Glasgow Rocks), John Nottley (Worthing Thunder), Justin Dobbins (Worcester Wolves), Anthony Rowe (UCP Marjon Plymouth Raiders)

Of course together with Halvarsson she helped Frisco Sika with another comfortable win outscoring VS Praha (0-2) 101-67. Her team has extremely good start of the season. They won both games so far. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. The 23-year old player had a double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds, while her team outclassed Atomeromu (#10, 2-6) with 50-point margin 108-58. It allowed Pecs 2010 to consolidate first place in the Hungarian A. They maintain perfect record without any lost game in the league. Pungor is a newcomer at Szolnok, but is already the team's top player.

Third on the list of top players last round was forward Monika Hegedus (178-F-82) of BSE Budapest (#9). Hegedus scored 23 points and grabbed seventeen rebounds (!!!). They have rather bad season and 2-5 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Hegedus she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Hegedus has individually a great season in Hungary. After only 7 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 6.6rpg (7th best).

Tina Charles gets MVP of the Week award for Russian A Superleague - by Eurobasket News
Talented Trinidad and Tobago-American Tina Charles (193-C-88, agency: LBM Management) had an amazing evening in the last round for Nadezhda Orenburg and that's her to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 3.
The 22-year old center had a double-double of 19 points and fifteen rebounds, while her team edged out Dynamo K. (2-1) 67-64. Thanks to this victory Nadezhda Orenburg moved-up to the 5th position in the Russian A Superleague. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Nadezhda Orenburg will need more victories to improve their 2-1 record. Charles turned to be Nadezhda Orenburg's top player in her first season with the team. University of Connecticut graduate has very impressive stats this year. Charles is league's best scorer averaging so far 21.0ppg and leads league in rebounds with 13.0rpg. Charles is in league's top in and averages solid 54.2% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 26-year old American guard Lindsey Harding (173-G-84) of Dynamo Kursk. Harding impressed basketball fans with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Bad luck as Dynamo Kursk was edged by Nadezhda O. (2-1) 67-64. The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Harding is a newcomer at Dynamo Kursk and it seems she did not have too much trouble to become team's real leader. She belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.0ppg (#3). Her other stats are also decent: 4.3rpg and 3.7apg.

The third best performed player last round was American Jessica Davenport (196-C-85) of Vologda-Chevakata (#6). Davenport scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She was a key player of Chevakata, leading her team to a 84-69 easy win against Spartak M. (#9, 0-3). Chevakata needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 1 victories and 1 lost games. Davenport has a great season in Russia. After only 2 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 20.0ppg (2nd best) and rebounds with 9.5rpg (4th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Irina Osipova (196-F-81) of Spartak V MR - 14 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists

Murphy's a double-double lands her Player of the Week award - by Eurobasket News
25-year old swingman Eshaya Marie Murphy (180-G/F-85) put on an amazing game in the last round for Soller Joventud Mariana and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 5.
She had a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds, while her team beat Extrugasa (#4, 3-2) 75-66. Mariana maintains the 13th position in Spanish LFB. Too late to salvage the team, which is currently ranked such low. They already lost 4 games and recorded just one victory. Murphy turned to be Mariana's top player in her first season with the team. University of Southern California graduate has very impressive stats this year. Murphy is league's best scorer averaging so far 20.6ppg. Murphy

Second best performed player last round was Olga Podkovalnikova (195-C-84) of C.B. Olesa Espanyol. She is Russian center in her first season at Olesa. In the last game Podkovalnikova recorded impressive double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Olesa lost that game 65-74 to slightly higher-ranked Girona (2-3). This loss caused Olesa to drop to 9th position in the standings. Her team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 2-3 record. Podkovalnikova is a newcomer at Olesa and quickly became the team's new leader.

Third place about best performers goes to another Soller Joventud Mariana's star - center Gisela Vega (188-C-82). Vega showcased her all-around game by recording 23 points, twelve rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. She was another key player of Mariana, helping her team with a 75-66 win against the higher-ranked Extrugasa (#4, 3-2). Mariana can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-4 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Vega she does not play for a better team. But maybe if she did, her season stats would not be that high. Vega has individually a great season in Spain. After only 5 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.0ppg (4th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Kathrin Ress (196-C-85) of Gran Canaria - 22 points and 6 rebounds

UWIC take spoils against Wildcats - by Eurobasket News
By Dave Ryan
UWIC Archers coach Damian Jennings was pleased after his team defeated Nottingham Wildcats 68-57 away from home.

'A win on the road is always pleasing,' he said. 'Beyond that I am also impressed with how we managed the size of Nottingham and their team spirit in the Wildcats Arena. This Nottingham side is the best Wildcats side I have seen in my three and a bit seasons in the top-flight, and I have no doubt they will get better as they become more accustomed to each other and the genuine balance at all spots they hold.

'We dealt with some big momentum shifting shots from Andrea Congreaves, solid input early on from Hannah Shaw and some nice perimeter knock-downs from Siobhan Prior and Emma Pass to stabilize the game and sustain the lead we held from the off. I am under no illusion that this game will equate to three automatic wins against Nottingham; this was simply one from three and we have them twice on the road so we have to continue to work on the detail missing in parts of a generally pleasing performance today.'

The Archers started strongly, and rushed into an 18-8 lead, but the home side fought back to reduce that arrears to just one, 29-28, going into the locker room.

The visitors regained the initiative in the third period, opening a 56-49 lead before wrapping up the win with a 12-8 final stanza.

Former GB international and WNBA player Congreaves led the Wildcats with 15 points, with Shaw adding 10 and Phynique Allen (170-G, college: E.Washington) nine. Kate Butters led all scorers with 21, with Meagan Hoffman finishing on 13 and Nikki Avery seven.

The Naylor sisters combined for 59 points as champions City of Sheffield Hatters made short work of Barking Abbey Leopards - winning 92-63 in east London. Sarah finished with 34 points and Helen 25 as Hatters made it two wins from as many games.

The visitors edged the first period 20-15, but blew into a 52-30 lead with a dominant second quarter. Leopards chipped a point off the deficit in the third stanza, but Sheffield wrapped things up with a 22-14 final period.

Niamh Dwyer led Barking for the third straight game with 24 points, with Christina Gaskin adding eight and Anne Marie Powell six. Sarah Taylor chipped with 17 for the visitors.

Sunday's action saw Brixton Topcats come from behind to beat Team Northumbria 76-72. In a tight game throughout, Northumbria built on a 20-19 first period lead to go into the locker room 37-32 ahead. However the home side cut the gap to 55-54 at the final break before taking the decisive lead four minutes from time and wrapping things up from the line.

Topcats were led by Rachel James (13) and Ijeoma Ofomata (11), while American pair Ta'Yani Clark and Kristen London (178-G/F-87, agency: Pinnacle Sports LLC, college: Virginia) led the visitors with 32 and 20 points respectively.
