It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Fuerza Regia. The hosts trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 25-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Halcones Rojos made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Fuerza Regia turnovers. Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (182-86) fired 24 points and 4 assists for the winners. Venezuelan power forward Luis Bethelmy (200-86) chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Halcones Rojos' coach Eddie Casiano used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Jeremis Smith (203-86, college: Georgia Tech) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for lost side. Halcones Rojos have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-2 record. Fuerza Regia at the other side keeps the second place with three games lost. Halcones Rojos are looking forward to face Halcones UV Xalapa (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Fuerza Regia will play against Huracanes (#5) in Tampico and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.

Panteras (4-10) survived in overtime against Pioneros (7-6) by three points 102-99 on Saturday night. The game took place in Cancun. But the guests from Aguascalientes were better at the end. Worth to mention a great performance of Ricardo Melendez who helped to win the game recording 44 points (!!!). At the losing side LeRoy Hickerson responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Panteras maintains twelfth position with 4-10 record. Loser Pioneros dropped to the eighth place with six games lost. They share the position with Corr.Victoria. Panteras will meet Aguilas Rojas (#13) in the next round. Pioneros will play against Lechugueros (#11) in Leon and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 16 Lechugueros were defeated by Corr.Victoria in Ciudad Victoria 90-83. Huracanes beat Abejas at home 89-77.

There was no surprise in Ciudad Victoria where 11th ranked Lechugueros (5-10) were defeated by ninth ranked Correcaminos (7-6) 90-83. The hosts were already 14 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 37-30 Lechugueros' run in the last quarter cut the lead to 90-83 at the end of the game. Correcaminos dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Lechugueros' 34. The winners were led by American forward Ronald Selleaze (197-76, college: CSU Bakersfield, agency: Dream Team Management) who scored that evening 15 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import forward James Penny (198-76, college: TCU) supported him with 23 points. Four Correcaminos players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Deilvez Yearby (198-87, college: IPFW, agency: Pro One Sports) did not help to save the game for Lechugueros. Panteras (4-10) survived in overtime against Pioneros (7-6) by three points 102-99 on Saturday night. The game took place in Cancun. But the guests from Aguascalientes were better at the end. The guests trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 24-13 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 12-9. Panteras made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. Strangely Pioneros outrebounded Panteras 45-29 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (180-83, agency: TSS Management) who helped to win the game recording 44 points (!!!) and American swingman Samuel Bowie (198-75, college: SE Louisiana) who added 27 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import forward John Millsap (198-82, college: UTSA) scored 28 points and 6 rebounds.
