Albions Attackers punish Parsons! - by David Edole

SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI - Led by KAndre Clarkes 32 points Albion overcame a 12 point opening salvo from Parsons Punishers and an 8 point first quarter deficit to lift the Sea Cows Bay Basketball Clubs U10 District Championship with a 56-30 rout.

Powered early on by Elroy Bollers, who would end the game with 10 points for Parsons and a technical foul ejection, the Punishers were all over the Attackers and even though they hauled themselves back into the game by the end of the first quarter no one in the crowd could foresee the game becoming the rout in did.

Slowly Albion worked out how to defend against the route 1 basketball employed by Parsons, which mainly involved getting the ball to Bollers who would then drive to the basket. Once he began to get into foul trouble and his threat weakened the Attackers took over the game and turned the deficit into a 6 point lead by half time, 26-20.

Clarke then led his team to a 35-26 lead by the end of the 3rd quarter and the game was done.

Bollers undoubted talent got lost in a sea of frustration and walking of the court got him benched for the duration of the 4th quarter which saw the Attackers finally reach the 50 point mark under a swarm of attacks against the disillusioned Punishers.

The win for the Albion boys was a repeat of the win in game one of the Tournament and confirmed their ascendancy in a championship that had produced some thrilling ball.

Clarke added 3 rebounds and 9 steals to his performance while Keshawn Esprit had 8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Raphael Singh also contributed 6 points and 6 steals.

For the Punishers Bollers picked up 10 steals, Enrique Jafarally had 10 points and Daniel Singh 8 points with 4 rebounds and 7 steals.

Although the finalists had already been decided the game of the tournament saw Cherry Ghut Crushers push the Attackers all the way in what turned out to be their vain hope of recording a first win of the campaign.

The game was an enthralling end to end encounter which saw the scores tied at the buzzer and the Albion just able to hold on to win it 42-38 in the first overtime. Once again Clarke led the way with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Esprit contributed 8 points with 7 rebounds and Ojari Harry had 8 points and 5 rebounds.

For the Crushers Malaki Smith scored 26 points with 8 rebounds and 10 steals, whilst Ryan Adams finished with 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Punishers had confirmed their place in the final with a big win over the Crushers the previous day.

The 44-22 final score included 25 points from Bollers and 15 from Singh. Bollers also picked off 4 steals whilst Singh gathered 7 rebounds.

For the Crushers Smith finished the game with 10 points and Adams 5

The Trophy Presentation is slated for next Friday, September 7, 2012 on the Sea Cows Bay court after the All Star Game.

Anthony Jones Powers The Fraport Skyliners Past Toyota Alvark 78-58 - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber

A year ago, the Fraport Skyliners had a taste of NBA flair joining them with 2012 Milwaukee Bucks Draft Pick Jon Leuer with the always present mischeovous Ferris Bueller appearance and former NBA player Jermario Davidson who was growing a special patent on his fade away jumper from the wing and the only thing missing form him last season was a rap performance standing on the rim, but this season the Fraport Skyliners have swapped NBA taste with try-out taste in the likes of Anthony Jones (194-G/F-84, college: Indiana Tech), Johnahon Jones and Alexander Franklin. In the first pre season exhibition game, the Fraport Skyliners met 2012 Japanese league champion Toyota Alvark at Basketball city and two familiar faces returned back to face off with Jeff Gibbs who was known as being the smallest center in the Beko BBL often terrorizing players 20 centimeters taller than him and always having that competitive smile dueling with the smilers like Immanuel Mcelroy and Michael Hakim Jordan for the widest one and head coach Don Beck who coached 9 years in Trier winning two cup titles and coaching five years in Oldenburg helping form Euroleague players like D or Fischer and Doron Perkins. The Fraport Skyliners who had to play without an injured Quantez Roberston who broke his left ring finger last week and are still seeking a center, gave a solid effort at the training facility, but had very little competition with the Japanese champion Toyota Alvark. This was the worst game we have played in two years. We shot the ball very bad tonight. I think that we were a bit tired and that it was the end of our Germany trip. I wasnt satisfied with our energy level. We had an off day. We are really a better team than this, stressed Toyota Alvark head coach Don Beck. The Fraport Skyliners dominated the game and played a solid defensive game in the traditional manner of MUli Katzurin showing a forceful full press defense. Johannes Herber played an exceptional game and was pleased that the team could finally get their exhibition schedule started. It was the first game and we were all a bit tired, but it was good to play against another team. We were able to see how we function as a unit and see where each player can use their strength. Toyota Alvark wasnt as competitive and we lost a little concentration at times. We had problems at the rebound, but all in all it was a good performance, stressed Fraport Skyliner shooring guard Johannes Herber.

Fraport Skyliner fans also saw the return of Mr incredible Jeff Gibbs who played in the Beko BBL from 2006-2010 leading the league in rebounding three years in a row. He is starting his third season with Toyota Alvark and was happy to see some familiar faces. It is always nice to come back to my second home Germany. It is also nice to see familiar faces like the my ex teammate the warrior Emeke Erege, stressed Jeff Gibbs. Try-out player Alex Franklin was able to take some glimpses of how the 188cm center Ohio Native works under the basket. Gibbs was a beast that was a presence down low and really knew how to use his body well, said ex Siena player Alexander Franklin. Gibbs showed that he is an expert of filling up the stat sheet finishing with 6 points, 13 boards, and three blocks and was a menace on the offensive glass hauling down seven offensive rebounds. Fraport Sklyiners captain Marius Nolte had his battles down low with him as well as in the past in the Beko BBL and was still amazed of his game. He is 32, but it is still amazing how he grabs rebounds. We had good duels with Paderborn-Ulm. I am happy that he hasnt lost his game, because he is a very nice guy, commented Marius Nolte. Johannes Herber had the hot hand through out the game and the only thing missing was grabbing a lounge chair and watching Mr incredible Jeff Gibbs operate. I was a bit surprised that he didnt start, but he was still their best player. It is fascinating how he fishes in the rebounds. It is really fun to watch, expressed Ex Alba Berlin player Johannes Herber.

Before the game commenced one could see how anxious the fans were for the game to start, but also the players. Johannes Herber powered home a thunderous dunk getting a smile from injured Quantez Robertson something he could show more in games this season. On the opposing side, Jeff Gibbs was getting ready and already had his focused game face on as if he was about to play in a game seven and Skyliner legend Pascal Roller was walking around with his kids and a ball in one hand as if he was looking for some shorts and sneakers to come in off the bench. When the game did start, it was very lopsided as the Fraport Skyliners got off to a fast start leading 8-0. Toyota Alvark seemed surprised by the Skyliners physical play and rude full court press and couldnt hit a shot off the side of the barn. The Fraport Skyliners quickly got their offensive engine revved as Marius Nolte scored inside twice and Anthony Jones getting a quick steal and getting an easy transition bucket. The Frankfurt defense continued to wreck havoc as they got another steal and Michigan native Johnathon Jones scored on the fast break. Frankfurt led 8-0. We got off to a slow start didnt bring the energy that we should of. They played tough full court press and our shots didnt fall. They plan outworked us, stated ex Otterbein player Jeff Gibbs. Toyota Alvark finally got on the score board as it almost took them six minutes to get their first points as Takeuchi Kosuke hit a mid distance jumper. Johannes Herber hit a three pointer from the top of the key as the Skyliner offense was giving the best Japanese defense problems. Toyota Alvark was #1 in 9 of 11 Defensive categories in the JBL league last season. However even when the floor was filled with PRO B players, Toyota Alvark couldnt really find an answer against the Skyliner pressure. Perhaps the prettiest bucket in the first quarter was a give and go between Young guns Konsatntin Klein and Johannes Vogtmann as Klein finished with an easy layup. Toyota Alvark hit two shots from down town in the last two minutes from Matsui Keijuro and Kumagai Takayuki. Konstan Klein showed his quickness with a lay up getting a pretty feed from Devin Gibson as the Fraport Skyliners led 18-10 after one quarter. Frankfurt dominated and defended well. Frankfurt was very active and did a good job not letting Toyota Alvark get inside, stressed ex ratiopharm Ulm player Emeke Erege.

The Fraport Skyliners got off to a quick start once again in the second quarter going on a 8-2 run to lead 26-12. Anthony Jones got hot making a fade away jumper and then showing his scoring instinct hitting a three pointer. However this quick run didnt impress Toyota Alvark as they responded with their own 8-0 to cut the Skyliner lead to 26-20. Toyota Alvark finally got some points inside as Phillip Ricci scored over Nolte, three point specialist Okada Yusuke who shot 40% from the parking lot last season in the JBL league hit from down town, Arao Gaku hit a runner from the corner and Skyliner Alexander Franklin had some misfortune tipping in a ball into his own basket. The second quarter continued to be a quarter of runs as now it was time for the Fraport Skyliners to shine again as went into half time with a 11-2 run and leading very comfortably 37-22. In the past when the Fraport Skyliners needed rapid points to get out of a dilemma fast, it would be a Dashaun Wood two seasons ago or Jermario Davidson last season and against Toyota Alvark it was ex German national player Johannes Herber who showed his leadership qualities making a three pointer and scoring inside. Herber also made free throws as did Anthony Jones. Alexander Franklin might only have produced two points, but it was a very beautiful play as he scored inside in traffic. Frankfurt continued to execute while Toyota Alvark was hitting some three pointers, but still missed many easy lay ups. Frankfurt was focusing a lot on Jeff Gibbs and he also missed some easy baskets, added Jeff Gibbs friend Emeke Erege. The Fraport Skyliners were shooting 39% from the field and 23% from outside as Toyota Alvark was shooting 20% from the field and 17% from outside. Toyota Alvark had the slim 24-23 rebound edge and six turnovers while the Fraport Skyliners had only three turnovers.

In the third quarter, The Fraport Skyliners were able to hold their lead, but in the latter half of the third quarter let Toyota Alvark back into the game. Muli Katzurin continued to experiment playing his whole bench especially the try out players and his PRO B wunder kinder. Toyota Alvark jumped on a mini 4-0 run cutting the Fraport Skyliners lead to 37-26 as Jeff Gibbs scored inside and Shonaka Takeki scored from the corner. Anthony Jones then showed some more brilliance scoring in bunches as he nailed a jumper in the corner and then read a Toyota Alvark pass and jumped in stealing the ball and going coast to coast for an easy lay up. Herber then hit a jumper as the Fraport Skyliners led 44-26. Matsui Keijuro then hit a jumper. Gibbs then scored in his typical manner scooting inside for the position getting the ball under the basket making seemingly 1000 fakes and then hitting a hook shot over the out stretched hand of Herber. Johannes Vogtmann then scored inside getting a super no look pass from Devin Gibson. The 19 year old 211cm center from the former East Germany played a spirited game scoring three points, getting nine rebounds and blocking Jeff Gibbs. I liked the play of Vogtmann. He will develop if he continues to work hard, stressed Jeff Gibbs. Gibbs showed his rebound power grabbing a rebound over Vogtmann who is 22 centimeters taller, but knows exactly who was the tallest player he surprised by shooting over. I shot over Charles Shackleford. He was an ex NBA seven footer, smiled Jeff Gibbs. After Takeki and Herber exchanged baskets, the Fraport Skyliners still led 49-33. Toyota Alvark closed out the third quarter strong trailing only 59-47. Deadly three point specialist Okada Yusuke hit two three pointers. Herber helped the Skyliners keep the cushion with a three pointer and steal where he was off to the races scoring a transition hoop. Konstatin Klein made the last basket as the buzzer sounded on a fast break play as the Fraport Skyliners led 59-47. We finally played the way that we should and play our style which is our defensive intensity. We also picked up our shooting, added Jeff Gibbs. They came back because they are a good team and good teams make runs which we couldnt counter, said Fraport Skyliner forward Alexander Franklin.

Muli Katzurin must of found the encouraging words between quarters as the Fraport Skyliners jumped out on a 14-2 lead to decide the game as they led 73-49 in the fourth quarter. After Konstantin Klein hit a three pointer that got a lucky BCM role, Phillip Ricci countered with a lay in. After a Vogtmann block on Gibbs, it was Anthony Jones who continued to fight for a contract setting the tone in the fourth quarter. He really showed how versatile he can be even though he is known for being able to hit from anywhere on the floor. He started with a clever pump fake in the corner and then dashing to the basket with a lay in which no Toyota Alvark big could pick up. He then timed a perfect ally-op pass to Danilo Barthel who shoveled the ball off the glass. Johnathon Jones then found some daylight from the wing and scoring on the penetration before it was Anthony Jones again scoring on a transition play as Johnathon Jones found him. The Skyliners pushed it up an extra notch in the fourth quarter. Our intensity level wasnt there. They continued to knock down shots, stressed Jeff Gibbs. Toyota Alvark would close out the game with a positive 9-5 run, but it was all too little too late. Danilo Barthel helped his stat line with a three pointer in the last minute as he finished with seven points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes. One could see that the first season of Danilo helped him and he gave us exactly what we needed tonight, stressed Fraport Skyliner captain Marius Nolte. The Fraport Skyliners were never really challenged and were consistent on defense. We kept the defensive intensity for 40 minutes. We also executed pretty well. This was a stepping stone for us, but we still have things to work on. It is the little things that we need to improve like rotations and we got hurt on the boards, stressed Alexander Franklin.

The Fraport Skyliners were led by Anthony Jones with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists. He is a scorer and I wasnt surprised how well he played. I hope that there is more to come from him, added teammate Alexander Franklin. Anthony Jones has that feel to score. He fits into our system and team, added Marius Nolte. Johannes Herber added 21 points. Toyota Alvark were led by Kumagai Takayuki and Matsui Keijuro with 10 points a piece. The Fraport Skyliners shot 44% from the field and 36% from the parking lot while Toyota Alvark had a rough shooting day with 33% from the field and 31% from the parking lot. The Fraport Skyliners edged Toyota Alvark on the boards 40-39 and had 14 turnovers while Toyota Alvark had 17 turnovers. It was only the first test, but captain Marius Nolte was pleased with the first result. 2It was good to play against other players. We usually have that internal competition with each other in practice. I feel that we are all working together. This win will give us a push for the next game, added Marius Nolte.

Preseason interview with Head coach Raoul Korner - by Fred Roggen

EiffelTowers Den Bosch head coach Raoul Korner (agency: Court Side ), an very sympathetic Austrian, is entering his third season at the helm, when the EiffelTowers open Oct. 7 against Landstede Zwolle. In two years, he has racked up 60 wins (30 per season) and led the EiffelTowers to a Dutch Championship. We talked about the team and some of his thoughts on the upcoming 2012-13 campaign in this Eurobasket.com Q&A.

As a coach, what did you learn from last year and how did it affect your approach to this season?
Last season just proved one more time that every possession counts and glory and defeat are sometimes just one layup apart.

Obviously, the goals every season are first a Dutch Cup and then an Dutch Championship. How realistic are those objectives this year and what is the most important priority for your team from this point on?
With the Supercup we even have a third target this season. We will not make the mistake though to forget to take one step at a time and focus on the process rather than the final result. With five new key players on the roster, we need to go through the whole team building process again and see where that leads us at the end of the season.

You're pretty vocal on the sidelines. What role do you feel the head coach should play and where do you feel a coach has the most impact during a game?
The head coach should give the team what the team needs in that particular moment: If it needs a loud coach, you need to be vocal and active. If it needs to relax and play less tight, you need to show confidence and be calm. I try to give the team what it needs to win without forgetting being myself. Pushing the right tactical buttons is only one aspect, the more important one is personnel managment.

Raoul, let's break down the roster by position, starting at point guard.
We added Andre Young, a young and very talented point guard fresh out of Clemson. Running the point on a championship team as a rookie is a challenge, but if anybody can do it, it is Andre. With Matt Bauscher, we have an experienced 2/1 guard who can back up for Andre on that position.

How are things shaping up at shooting guard?
Matt Bauscher will provide quality, experience and leadership on that position. He is the energy guy who we need.
Besides him we have DeJuan Wright, a rookie from FIU, who will play 2 and 3. He adds athleticism to our backcourt and brings something spectacular to our team this season.
Besides that we need our young guys Jeffrey Touw and Mike Schilder to contribute significant minutes on both guard positions this season. The more we get out of them, the deeper our rotation will be.

How do you envision things shaking out at the 3?
With Kees Akerboom, our returning captain, we have a lot of experience and outside shooting on the small forward position. Wright will also see minutes on that position and hopefully also another young player: Matthew van Tongeren.

How about at power forward?
With Stefan Wessels, we have one of the best Dutch players returning on the power forward. His consistancy on both ends of the floor was a big factor for winning the championship last season. He will be backed up by another young Dutch player: Ralf DePagter, who unfortunately got injured with the B-National team and wasn't able to practice yet.

Finally, talk about what you've got at the 5.
With Peter van Paassen and Will Carter, we should have a very strong and balanced front court. If Peter can stay healthy and play more games for us this season, than last one, he will be our offensive inside threat, while Will can cover both inside positions and brings energy and athleticism to our frontcourt.

With such a new roster, but one that seemingly has a lot of nice pieces, how big of a jump can you be expected to make this year?
Rather than "big jumps" I would like to take one step after the other, integrate the new players to our philosophy and style of play, and finally play our best basketball when it matters the most: during the playoffs. As a reigning champion you play with a target on your back, but we see this as a challenge and will try to play an even better season than last year.

Thanks Raoul for the time doing this interview. Wish You and the team a succesful season.

Mbah a Moute making progress with knee - by Eurobasket News

Bucks forward Luc Mbah a Moute (6'7''-G/F-86, college: UCLA) is in South Africa this week to take part in the NBA's Basketball Without Borders program, a project close to his heart.

That's because Mbah a Moute was a camper in the program in 2003 and has returned - now for a third time - as a counselor to help some of the top young basketball players in Africa. Mbah a Moute is only the second player from Cameroon to reach the NBA (former Portland Trail Blazer Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje was the first).

In a phone interview from Johannesburg on Friday, Mbah a Moute talked about the camp and also about his progress from off-season knee surgery.

Mbah a Moute, who will turn 26 years old on Sept. 9, underwent surgery to repair his right patella tendon in May, following the 2011-'12 season.

"I feel good. The knee is getting better," Mbah a Moute said. "I'm right on track to be back for the beginning of the season. I'm just excited to be healthy again."

Mbah a Moute was a restricted free agent last year during the lockout and got a late start with the Bucks due to his contract situation, as Milwaukee matched a four-year, $19 million offer made by the Denver Nuggets. Then he immediately encountered problems with his knee, problems that continued throughout the season and limited him to 43 games (22 starts).

"At this point I'm not sure," Mbah a Moute said of being ready on the opening day of training camp in early October. "My goal is to be ready for camp, but if not, make sure I'm ready. I don't want to rush that."

Mbah a Moute said he is glad he had the surgery, which was performed by Neal ElAttrache, the team doctor for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"It was hurting me and hurting my game," he said.

Mbah a Moute and Bucks assistant coach Jim Boylan are part of the NBA delegation for the 10th African edition of the Basketball Without Borders program. Other NBA players include Serge Ibaka, Nick Collison and Thabo Sefolosha of the Oklahoma City Thunder, Luol Deng of the Chicago Bulls and CJ Watson of the Brooklyn Nets. NBA Global Ambassador Dikembe Mutombo also is participating.

Players from 26 countries - a total of 60 players - are in the four-day camp.

Ibaka is from Congo, Deng is from the newly formed Republic of South Sudan and Sefolosha's father is South African.

"It means a lot for these kids to see that many African players in the NBA," Mbah a Moute said. "It raises the level of hope for these kids. When you see people (succeed) and they're where you are from, it sends a powerful message."

Mbah a Moute said he will continue his recovery in Los Angeles in September and undergo

Could Dirk Nowitzki really be done in two years? - by Eurobasket News

Think Dirk Nowitzki (7'0''-F-78) was sending a subtle message to Mark Cuban with his tweet after playing two more years and then seeing how he feels?

Think again.

It was just an honest answer to a fans question. Thats it.

Nothing has changed for Nowitzki in terms of how he views his basketball future once this contract expires. He has consistently said since he signed the four-year, $80 million deal that it could be his last NBA contract.

Nowitzkis loyalty to the Mavs, and Cuban, hasnt wavered. He made that clear later during his impromptu weekend Twitter Q&A when asked why he doesnt try to jump to a so-called super team.

I bleed blue, Nowitzki replied.

Maybe the quality of the Mavs roster will influence Nowitzkis decision on whether to continue his career into his late 30s. Maybe hell figure he needs to play for a legitimate contender to muster the competitive fire at that point in life.

Perhaps Nowitzkis family life will be a major factor, too. He got married this summer. Maybe hell decide to become a stay-at-home dad.

But heres betting that Dirks decision comes down to how his then-36-year-old body feels after 16 seasons of the NBA grind.

Nowitzkis knee trouble early in last years lockout-shortened season was the first sign of wear and tear taking its toll. The Mavs hope and believe, however, that the knee soreness was a result of the sudden end to the lockout and compressed schedule, not necessarily a painful sign of things to come.

Nevertheless, Nowitzki is likely to have logged close to 50,000 NBA minutes, including playoffs, by the time his contract expires. Plus, that 7-foot frame made a ton of trips up and down the floor while playing for Germany in international competition.

On the other hand, Nowitzkis game should age well. It isnt as if he became one of the best power forwards of all-time because of awesome athleticism.

Its not like Nowitzki will suddenly lose his shooting touch in his old age. He preferably wouldnt have to create his own shot so often and carry the Mavs offense on his shoulders, but Nowitzki could be a scoring threat until his blond hair goes gray.

And Nowitzki has the benefit of working on a daily basis with Mavs athletic trainer Casey Smith, who is widely considered one of the best in the business and happens to be one of No. 41s best friends.

While Nowitzki has never focused on his numbers, theres something to be said for cracking the 30,000-point barrier, an exclusive club that includes only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain and should be joined by Kobe Bryant this season. Nowitzki will probably need two more pretty good seasons to get there after this deal is done.

If his body is still able, its hard to envision Nowitzki not being willing to continue cashing Cubans checks and knocking down jumpers in a Mavs uniform.

Wizards roster likely set but is it enough? - by Eurobasket News

Going into the postseason, the Washington Wizards had a clear objective to continue their culture shift by adding more veterans to aid youthful roster still in need of some guidance. They also had to find a cast of shooters, rebounders and defenders who could support the skill set of their franchise building block, John Wall (6'4''-PG-90, college: Kentucky).

Since their fourth consecutive lottery season ended, the Wizards have said farewell, directly and otherwise, to Rashard Lewis, Andray Blatche, Roger Mason Jr., James Singleton, Maurice Evans, Brian Cook and Morris Almond. Those spots have been filled by Bradley Beal, Emeka Okafor, Trevor Ariza, A.J. Price and Martell Webster a rookie and four players with at least three years of NBA experience, all under the age of 30. Cartier Martin re-signed.

After announcing that Webster had inked his new deal, Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld said on Wednesday that the team would in all likelihood go with 14 players when training camp begins on Oct. 2 at George Mason. But that remains to be seen, Grunfeld said. Well see what opportunities are there. If other opportunities come up, well look at them.

The Wizards have a mix of veterans and youngsters, with eight players on the roster Wall, Beal, Jordan Crawford, Kevin Seraphin, Trevor Booker, Shelvin Mack, Jan Vesely and Chris Singleton with two seasons or less of NBA experience. They have players who can attack the glass in Nene, Emeka Okafor and Booker. They have shooters in Beal, Webster and Martin. They even have a backup point guard in Price.

But do they have enough to make the playoffs?

After finishing with the NBAs second-worst record last season, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis said his team was bad by plan and now we plan to be GOOD. On paper, the Wizards are a much better team than they were last season in talent and professionalism but they still have several teams to leap in order to break into one of the top eight seeds.

Defending champion Miami certainly didnt take any steps back with LeBron James entering his prime and the signings of Ray Allen and Lewis. Boston lost Allen but bolstered its lineup by adding Courtney Lee, Jason Terry, Jeff Green and making sure Kevin Garnett didnt exit into retirement. The Heat and Celtics have represented the Eastern Conference in five of the past seven NBA Finals and should continue to be among the elite teams, but the Eastern Conference standings will look somewhat different next season.

Orlando is expected to plummet with Dwight Howard dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers, Chicago is expected to slide some with Derrick Rose recovering from a torn ACL that could keep him out for most, if not all of next season. But the Brooklyn (formerly New Jersey) Nets, who finished with only two more wins than the Wizards last season, have upgraded with the addition of Joe Johnson, and Philadelphia has transformed its roster and added the leagues second-best big man in Andrew Bynum.

Indiana re-signed center Roy Hibbert and added D.J. Augustin, Ian Mahinmi and Gerald Green. Atlanta replaced Johnson and Marvin Williams with Lou Williams, Devin Harris and Kyle Korver. New York lost Jeremy Lin but added Raymond Felton and Jason Kidd.

Milwaukee, which finished ninth last season, will have a full season to incorporate Monta Ellis and added a shot blocking presence in Sam Dalembert. Toronto plucked Kyle Lowry from Houston and will bring over last years top pick Jonas Valanciunas after getting Terrance Ross and Quincy Acy last June. Cleveland has a rising star Kyrie Irving. Detroit will only get better if Greg Monroe continues to elevate his game. Charlotte should be lousy again.

The Wizards have upgraded the talent this calendar year, having started last season with just two lottery picks on the roster (Wall and Vesely) to now having five (Wall, Vesely, Nene, Okafor and Beal). But in order for Washington to escape the bottom and become relevant, Wall will have to be truly ready to take the next leap as a player.

Dramatic turnarounds usually require game-changing acquisitions, but the team has already urged patience with Beal. In two seasons, Wall has already shown that he has the physical tools to become a star in this league. He has also had a normal offseason free of a lockout and an inordinate amount of exhibition games to prepare for a possible breakout campaign.

Wall has trained with Team USA in Las Vegas, worked on improving his jump shot with Dave Hopla and gained knowledge from Rob McClanaghan, the trainer who has assisted all-star point guards Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook. Wall wants to be the savior and bring postseason basketball back to Verizon Center. With Blatche, Nick Young and JaVale McGee gone and a group of players noted fro their professionalism in town, he will have his opportunity to elevate the franchise.

Questions also remain about how all of the pieces will come together for the Wizards, if players will get used to different or diminished roles and if Coach Randy Wittman will be able to push the right buttons for an essentially new collection of talent. And, in roughly two months, the Wizards will find out if they have done enough this summer to go from bad to good or at least become respectable again.

Dwight Howard tweets about Abdul-Jabbar - by Eurobasket News

After mentioning on Twitter that he would like to work out with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, new Los Angeles Laker Dwight Howard took the first step towards that plan by sitting down with the Hall of Fame center Monday afternoon.

"Just sat down with @kaj33," Howard tweeted after the meeting. "Man God is so good. Was in tears. What a blessing. This is like a dream come true. Go Lakers."

Howard then tweeted a picture of the two of them together with the caption, "Me and @kaj33 together. For many years to come."

The "many years to come" will surely come as music to the ears of Lakers fans worried that Howard might leave after this season when he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Howard said he has not talked about an extension with the Lakers and won't do so until this season is over.

After the meeting, Abdul-Jabbar tweeted the same picture of the two centers and wrote, "Dwight Howard (6'11''-C-85) Great meeting you today - Laker Nation is in great hands for years to come. Now lets WIN a championship."

Abdul-Jabbar added, "#DwightHoward thankful to impart my knowledge to a highly-motivated, gifted, athlete with integrity and focus on the prize - a championship!"

The meeting occurred thanks to a simple question asked of Howard by a fan on Twitter.

Howard was asked if he was going to work out with Abdul-Jabbar. "I am," Howard responded. "When I am released."

Howard was referring to getting clearance from his doctors to return to the court after undergoing back surgery in April. The six-time All-Star hopes to be back some time in October.

Abdul-Jabbar responded to Howard's tweet with a tweet of his own on Monday.

"Lots of news about me and DH - would be great to coach him but as of now still haven't met him," Abdul-Jabbar tweeted. "Laker fans hope for the best always!"

Shortly after the tweet, Howard and Abdul-Jabbar connected but it is still unclear if Abdul-Jabbar will have a formal role with the Lakers' coaching staff as he previously had.

Abdul-Jabbar worked with Andrew Bynum, who was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers last month in the four-team deal that brought Howard to Los Angeles, as a special assistant coach from 2005-09. The two fell out of favor in 2009, when Bynum reportedly told Phil Jackson and the Lakers' coaching staff that he no longer wanted to work with the NBA's all-time scoring leader.

Abdul-Jabbar's contract as a special assistant for the Lakers expired in 2011. Shortly afterward, he publicly criticized the team for failing to give him a statue and for asking him to take a pay cut and not awarding him playoff shares as a coach due to his reduced role.

The Lakers announced last week that Abdul-Jabbar would get a statue in front of Staples Center on Nov. 16.

Reports: Heat to give former Knicks C Josh Harrellson a second 'try out' - by Eurobasket News

Will the new South Beach swag be knee-length denim?

The Miami Heat are reportedly eyeing former New York Knicks center Josh Harrellson (6'10''-F-89, college: Kentucky) to help fill out their roster.

Harrellson, 23, was a second-round pick in the 2011 NBA Draft and spent his rookie season with the Knicks, where he averaged 4.4 points and 3.9 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game over 37 appearances.

Back in July, Harrellson was traded to the Houston Rockets as part of a package that netted veteran center Marcus Camby in return. The Rockets later waived Harrellson in August and he is currently an unrestricted free agent.

After working out for the Heat recently, Harrellson tweeted on Monday that he was "heading to Miami for hopefully the next 9 months."

ESPN.com reported that Harrellson would be working out for the team again this week. The Sun-Sentinel further reported that Harrellson was coming to a "one-week tryout" this week, although no agreement has been reached between player and team. The paper also noted that Heat will be taking a look at a number of players in a "pre-camp camp" this week.

The Heat currently have two open roster spots. Miami has also been linked to interest in unrestricted free agent big man Sean Williams.

Back in January, Harrellson broke his right wrist, an injury that sidelined him roughly five weeks.

A hard-working rebounding and energy specialist, Harrellson was a cult hero while at the University of Kentucky, where he became known as "Jorts," slang for jean shorts.

Jordan, Magic Among 2012 Hall of Fame Presenters - by Diamadis Farmakis

The Hall of Fame on Tuesday announced a star-studded group of presenters for the induction ceremony next Friday night in Springfield, Mass., a list headed by Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson that is powerful enough to overshadow most of the actual inductees.

Sources: ASU to hire ex-NBA coaches - by Eurobasket News

Arizona State coach Herb Sendek made a bold move to save a struggling program by hiring two professional coaches as assistants, including former NBA head coach Eric Musselman, multiple sources told ESPN.com Sunday night.

Sendek will also hire Larry Greer, who was an assistant for the Trail Blazers last season and worked as a scout for Houston. Greer was a former college assistant at Wright State and Boston University.

Arizona State will announce the hires Tuesday, a source told ESPN.com. Details of the two contracts were still being finalized Sunday.

Musselman was the coach of the Lakers' D-League team, the D-Fenders, last season, leading the team to a 38-12 record. Musselman, who was also the head coach of the Venezuelan national team in 2012, was a former head coach of the Golden State Warriors (2002-04) and Sacramento Kings (2006-07).

Musselman also had stints as an assistant coach with Minnesota, Orlando and Atlanta as well as Memphis.

Associate head coach Dedrique Taylor is still on staff.

Getting Musselman could end up being a coup for Sendek, who needs to inject new energy into the program. The Sun Devils lost two assistant coaches -- Scott Pera (Penn) and Lamont Smith (Washington) -- recently. ASU finished 6-12 last season, 10-21 overall. But the Sun Devils add Jahii Carson, who was a highly-touted recruit, after he sat out last season for academics.

The Sun Devils return four productive players from last season, led by senior forward Carrick Felix (10.5 ppg, 4 rpg) and senior guard Chris Colvin (7 ppg, 4 rpg).

Sendek is in his seventh season at Arizona State. ASU reached the NCAA tournament once in Sendek's tenure, his third season in 2009. The Sun Devils have missed the postseason the past two seasons.

UCLA freshman Kyle Anderson reportedly not cleared by NCAA - by Eurobasket News

ESPN is reporting that UCLA freshman Kyle Anderson is one of two newcomers that have yet to been cleared by the NCAA.

For those following the ongoing updates involving the eligibility of UCLAs incoming stars, Shabazz Muhammad (6'6''-G/F-93) is the second freshman who has yet to receive clearance.

The university released a statement on Monday afternoon saying that two players are going through NCAA certification, but have yet to be cleared to play.

Muhammad, who is being investigated by the NCAA due to an alleged connection with two financial advisers during his time at the high school, was barred from traveling with the team during their overseas trip to China.

Anderson, on the other hand, did play for the Bruins and as if his talent level was not already known, those skills were on display during the teams 3-0 run abroad.

Both Muhammad and Anderson were considered top-10 recruits by many of the national media outlets and the potential loss of each could be devastating. With the month of September is just beginning, the college basketball season is just over two months away from its start.

ESPNs Peter Yoon, a UCLA beat writer for the network, tweeted on Monday evening that Anderson was the second freshman in question and that fellow freshman Tony Parker has already been cleared by the NCAA.

Villanova basketball adds Croatian guard Mislav Brzoja - by Eurobasket News

Mislav Brzoja (6'5''-F/G-94), a 6-foot-4 guard from Croatia who is a threat from three-point range, has been added to Villanova's basketball roster, coach Jay Wright announced Friday.

Brzoja, who will be eligible to compete as a freshman during the season, spent last season leading Traders Point Christian Academy of Whitespoint, Ind., to a 24-3 record. Earlier this month, he averaged 15.0 points, 1.9 assists, and 2.3 steals in helping lead Croatia to victory in the under-18 European Championships.

Brzoja, who was his team's captain, shot 34.0 percent from three-point range and averaged more than two baskets from deep in the eight games that he played.

"We're excited about what Mislav will bring to our basketball team," Wright said in a statement. "Mislav is an outstanding student and tough competitor who will add to the perimeter depth of our team."

Brzoja is the fourth newcomer to be added to the Villanova roster for the 2012-13 season, joining freshmen Ryan Arcidiacono and Daniel Ochefu and transfer Tony Chennault, who was granted a hardship waiver by the NCAA to compete. Another transfer, Dylan Ennis, will sit out this season under NCAA rules.

Western Washington's Jackson Hired as UW Assistant - by Sanjey Noriega

From: gnacsports.com

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Brad Jackson , head mens basketball coach at Western Washington University for the past 27 seasons, has resigned his position effective Monday to become an assistant coach at the University of Washington.

Jackson, 60, who led the Vikings to a NCAA Division II National Championship last March, the schools first in the sport, leaves WWU as the winningest coach in school history with 518 victories. He was the 2011-12 National Association of Basketball Coaches and DII Bulletin National DII Coach of the Year.

The position is really a great fit and the timing is right, said Jackson, a long-time friend of UW head coach Lorenzo Romar . But weve worked very hard to establish something here and its hard to leave that. A lot of great young men have played here and I take a lot of pride in whats been accomplished.

Jacksons longtime assistant Tony Dominguez , who has been the associate head coach the last two years and an assistant at WWU for 19 seasons overall, will serve as the Vikings interim head coach.

I am thrilled that Brad has been given such a wonderful opportunity, and wish him nothing but success at Washington, said WWU Director of Athletics Lynda Goodrich. He has been a great asset to our athletic program, to the university, and to the community in ways that go well beyond his outstanding success on the court. He will be missed, but he leaves having established a legacy of one of the top programs in all of Division II.

Tony (Dominguez) has been an integral part of the success of the program for nearly two decades, Goodrich continued. We have absolute confidence that he can take over without missing a beat.

Jackson leaves WWU ranked 44th in NCAA II in career victories, and would have entered the season No.13 among active coaches in victories and No.40 in winning percentage (.650). He holds a career record of 518-279.

A 1975 graduate of Washington State, where he played both basketball and baseball, Jackson led the Pac-8 in assists as a senior. He served five years as an assistant coach at Seattle Pacific and five years as a high school head coach prior to coming to WWU in 1985.

Jackson directed WWU to 19 national post-season appearances, winning the NCAA II national title in 2012 and reaching the national semifinals in 2001.

The Vikings had 12 20-win seasons during Jacksons tenure, including a school-record four straight in the late 1980s.

Jackson ranks third among the winningest collegiate basketball coaches in state of Washington history with 518 victories, and is one of just five to reach the 500 mark. Jackson was recruited to WSU by the leader in that category Marv Harshman (637), who later headed the UW program. Jackson also coached against the No.2 person on the list, Central Washingtons Dean Nicholson (620).

Jacksons father-in-law, Roland Halle, was a member of Washingtons national semifinal team in 1953.

The Vikings are scheduled to face UW in a preseason contest on Oct. 24, and go to Duke University for another exhibition contest Oct. 27.

Jackson begins his new duties Monday and will be going with the UW team on a trip to Europe and Africa that begins Aug. 25. The Huskies won the Pac-12 title last season.

  SYRIA

Basketball in Syria: Interview with coach Tane Spasev .. "Pt.2" - by Tarek Burhan

In the second part of the interview with coach Tane Spasev , the Macedonian speaks about the current situation in Syria as well as the long term goals in the development of young players in the country.

Currently, the World is looking at Syria as one of the main crisis zones. How do live this situation on a daily basis?
Well I try not to get involved in political matters and focus on basketball. When I arrived here more than 14 months ago, the situation was ok. Damascus and most of Syria were normal and daily life did not defer much then from the daily life in Europe. The people were shopping, eating out and enjoying life. As I said, we have 300 kids coming to Syrian Basketball Federation practices at the Centers. We had a regular basketball league and we sent national teams in FIBA Asia competitions. As year went by, the situation developed as it developed but Damascus and Aleppo (and some other smaller cities) were still running normal. We still manage to run our program at the moment, although with some difficulties. We currently have a team present at the FIBA Asia U18 Championship in Mongolia and we are sending the U16 national team at the FIBA Asia WABA U16 Championship next month. As I said, I try not to involve myself in political talk and I try to focus on getting my job done.

Damascus was once considered as a lively capital in near East. How is the situation there right now?
I was lucky enough to live in and visit a lot of big cities around the world. I lived in New York, Belgrade, St. Petersburg etc. but I must say I fell in love with Damascus. I never imagined the diversity (of the city). If you are in the mood for a walk in a place with a lot of culture and old houses; this is the place to be! If you are in the mood for a modern architecture and modern restaurants and shopping places; this is the place to be! Damascus is a mix of a lot of religions and cultures and I enjoy every day I am here.

Concerning Basketball, does the current political situation affect the Syrian Basketball League and especially the youth basketball leagues?
As I said before, we try to run our job. Last year we managed to hold a league championship and to finish it without any problems. We played the championship with teams only from Damascus and Aleppo (8 teams in total) and no foreigners were allowed. As for the youth a league, we run a tournament style of championship instead of a league and that was also done successfully.

You are head coach of the U16 National Team. What are the goals for that team and the youth basketball program overall?
Yes, one month ago I took over as Head Coach of the Syrian National Team U16. We are preparing for the upcoming FIBA Asia U16 WABA Championship that will take place in Jordan starting 20th of September. The team is talented and we have high hopes for it. However, there are some factors that make our preparations difficult but we are trying to do our best. The Syrian Basketball Federations President Mr. Jalal Nakrach was one of the first Arab players to play professionally outside the Arab world. He played and lived long time in Argentina and he is a successful businessman in private life so he knows what he is doing. I am positively surprised by his vision for the future of the Syrian Basketball and I must say that if the situation in Syria is normal-we will see great things from Syrian Basketball in the future.
Mr.Jalal Nakrach along with coach Emad Othman (Coaching Committee president) have a clear understanding of what it needs to be done and are developing and implementing plans that will bring Syrian Basketball to a new level. We have a 4 year plan in the youth program that involves a lot of resources and introduces new ways of thinking and work. We try to involve a bigger numbers of kids in the game of Basketball and from there start the correct selection process and move forward. For the first time in Syria we will have national team selections starting with U12 and up (Until now kids were gathered only at the U16 and U18 level as a national selection). We developing active mini-basket program as well.
Usually the clubs are those who make the first steps into the selection process but because of the situation we are taking over as a Federation because we have more available resources. We organized the Centers I was talking about earlier. Programs and Plans of work are made for selections U 12,13,14,15 and 16. As the Youth coordinator, I made a strategic 4 year plan where we will, as a federation, select and work with kids in 4 regions and then assemble national teams that will work and participate in a number of international tournaments so by the time we enter official FIBA Asia competitions in U16 and U18 we will have a ready player and a ready team.

When will we see Syria compete in a Youth World Championship again?
Well Syrian Basketball was at the FIBA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP U19 in 2009 in New Zealand. Although the results there were not good, the experience was valuable and now we have a number of good basketball players from that team playing at our senior national team. As we talk, our U18 team is in Mongolia for the FIBA ASIA U18 championship so we hope we get a spot for next years world championship U19. In our plan, we set a goal to win a FIBA Asia Championship and go to a FIBA World Championship by 2015. We hope we manage to accomplish that because we are really working hard at it and the kids and the Syrian people deserve it.

Thanks a lot to coach Spasev for his time. You can follow him on Twitter @TaneSpasev

Before The Season 1-Galatasaray Medical Park Istanbul - by Bulent Karagoz

After a satisfiying season in Euroleauge and a disappointing performance in Turkish Beko Basketball Leauge, Galatasaray Medical Park Istanbul gave a start for the big change in the roster with the three cupped coach Ergin Ataman (agency: Beo Basket ). Coach Ergin Ataman (agency: Beo Basket ), also a big fan of Galatasaray, let no much players except Ender Arslan (190-PG-83), Sertac Sanli (212-C-91, agency: Beo Basket), Furkan Aldemir (207-PF-91, agency: Beo Basket) and Goksenin Koksal (195-SG-91) to stay in the team and had the encourage to send the worldwide stars.

It seems to be a hard competition will be held in Turkish Beko Basketball Leauge this year. Euroleague teams; Anadolu Efes Istanbul, Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul and Besiktas Istanbul will force Ergin Ataman (agency: Beo Basket ) and his new team.

After leaving the team of Jaka Lakovic (186-G-78), Tutku Acik (194-G-80), Joshua Shipp (196-G/F-86, college: UCLA), Nihad Djedovic (198-F-90) and especially Jamon Lucas Gordon (191-SG-84), it is thought to be that the guard position, which is said to be the strongest position of the team for the years, would loose power. Under the control of the former coach Oktay Mahmudi (agency: Beo Basket ), David Hawkins (194-G-82, college: Temple) was a well disciplined defensive team. But it seems that the new guards of the team will add a scorer support to the team.

Ender Arslan known best with the penetrating dribblings will share his period with Engin Atsur (193-G-84, agency: Beo Basket, college: N.Carolina St.). Engin Atsur is both a penetrator and a dangerous scorer. Despite his young age, Goksenin Koksal was the key of the defence and is used to stop the best shooter of the opponents last season. And is wondered that how will coach Ataman will use him. Henry Domercant (194-G-80-college: E.Illinois), a good rebounder and an athletic defencer, will help Goksenin Koksal in the needs of defence. The shooting skills of Domercant seems to mend the leaving of Jaka Lakovic, who is known as one of the best shooters of Europe ever, will help the forward position.

Jamont Gordon (193-G/F-87, college: Mississippi St.) had also good season with CSKA Moscow in Russia and also in Euroleague. He is used to be in a competitive race in his position with his former team. Ergin Ataman (agency: Beo Basket ) did the best in coaching with not a wide rotationed team last year and the guard position decisions will force him most for the next season.

After a delighting season no doubt on David Hawkins had the biggest shareout of his team Besiktas Istanbul, winning the three cups last season. With athletic skills and best decisions in the game he will be a joker player for his coach at least one more season. He will also be the best solution with Cenk Akyol (198-G/F-87) for the shooter position of the team.

Galatasaray Medical Park Istanbul had problems in power forward and center positions in Euroleague and the final four of the Beko Basketball Leaugue. According the most, these positions were the reason not to qualify upper grades of the team. So coach Ataman was very carefull to choose the players for these positions.

In his first season in Euroleague and David Hawkins, Furkan Aldemir did more than his best. He was a talented young player in the softest position of his team. This year he will be in a race with the worlwide star Milan Macvan (205-PF-89, agency: INVICTUS Sports Group). Milan Macvan is the proof of the next years teams aggressive and fighter side. It is obvious that Macvan is not a transfer just for the Turkish Leugue, he is also a good preparation for the Euroleague for the future seasons. Last season showed that the team and the glamorous atmosphere of Abdi Ipekci Arena, Galatasaray Medical Park Istanbul is very strong-willed to join the Euroleague organisation again.

Coach Ataman will have his fighter center and power forward star Ersin Dagli (203-F/C-81, agency: Interperformances, college: Alabama) (203-FG-81-college: Alabama) in next year in his new team again. He was the best choice in long positions. He likes to fight with the longer opponents in the center positions and also is a good scorer around the line.

A very well working style of coach Ergin Ataman (agency: Beo Basket ) is easily appreciable. A team, combined of contender players with the talented youngsters. The transfer of Ersin Dagli and David Hawkins shows that the working system will be repeated for the upcoming season. The position of the fighter, athletic center position which was filled by Pops Mensah-Bonsou (206-F-83-college: G.Washington) in Besiktas Istanbul will be filled by a similar player, Boniface Ndong (213-C-77). Boniface Ndong will also be a model for the young players as Furkan Aldemir and Sertac Sanli with his experience. Except the disappointment of Ilkan Karaman, it is seen that the team is in a preparation for being stable in Euroleague. It is sure that Galatasaray Medical Park Istanbul will continue being a fighting team this year and will be in the race To the last ball as they say. And Coach Ataman wants to have the Eurocup and Beko Turkish Basketball League cups for the upcoming season with another team.

Power, Lady Canons turn focus to league - by Joel Nature

After a week absence of league basketball due to zone 5, the Airtel National Basketball League returns this evening with defending champions of both divisions in action.

Dmark Power face play off regulars UCU Canons in what should be a thriller going by the first round match- up between the teams. Power (12-4) beat Canons (11-5) 74-65 on the opening day of the season. Power has lost two of the last five games averaging 65.2 points in those games while Canons have slipped once in the last five averaging 60.6 points.

UCU defend the key quite well but were completely torn apart by Falcons in their last outing losing by 30 points but just wont let Power take the same route.

Power might be forced into outside shots if the quick transition game fails to pull off and Collin Mukiza being one of the best shooters of the ball on the Power team should have more minutes when it comes to this. Ben Komakech and Micheal Kojo sustained injuries in the zone 5 but should play part in this game as Power look to close up on league leaders, Falcons and Warriors.

Canons front court should do extremely well at the post to stop Power as well as being effective in offense to help Suudi Ulanga pile up the points to have a chance in this game as Power dont have the best of form in the league and teams have proved power is a beatable opponent.

Mean while UCUs lady side will face a1 challenge in the womens division. Lady Canons are unbeaten in fourteen and look to continue as they have a big edge over all opponents in the division. A1 (12-3) beat Nkumba Lady Marines and will rely on team play to put a fight against the defending champions who have a multitude of scorers and are barely unstoppable.

Yarden Gutt (183-C-91) and Dafna Mahler (182-F-91) who collaborated last year in the Israeli U20 national team joined the roster of Elizur Netanya. Yarden Gutt is the daughter of Pnina Gutt who played for Elizur Netanya about 30 years ago, her coach was Simcha Lev-Tzur who is now the professional manager and the CEO of the club. Yarden started to play in the S.C Even Yehuda and then played in several teams, in the last season she played for Hapoel Galil-Elyon which took the championship of the second division and advanced to the premier league. In 2011 Yarden represented Israel when she played in the U20 national team in the European Championship Division B. Dafna Mahler grew up in the youth department of Bnei Herzliya, in the last season she played for Elizur Tel-Aviv which finished the second division in the second place. Mahler also took part in the campaign of Israeli U20 team in the European Championship, which was held in Macedonia in 2011.

Professional manager, Simcha Lev-Tzur: "Elizur Netanya W.B.C is known as a club that promotes the Israeli players and of course the club will continue this way, Yarden Gutt and Dafna Mahler who played together in the Israeli U20 national team joined the club this week. Yarden Gutt is a part of a basketball family, she made a closure when she joined Netanya. I got the opportunity to coach her mother Pnina, who was the star of Elizur Netanya in the 70's and 80's and advanced the team to the premier league for the first time in 1978. Yarden will bring fighting spirit, enthusiasm, rebounds and points to the court. Dafna Mahler will strengthen the team at the shooter position, strong defense and finishing counter-attacks. I believe that this season we will have in Netanya a young, fast, fighting, guarding and attractive team".

Yarden Gutt: "My transition to Elizur Netanya is exciting me, I joined the team where my mother Pnina began her career in basketball. I will continue the family tradition when I will play with the number that she was playing with, this is an amazing closure. I am joining a team with a young roster of players with a hunger for success, I will try to prove myself and of course to help the team to present a beautiful and interesting basketball".

Dafna Mahler: "I am happy to join Elizur Netanya and to cooperate again with Yarden Gutt who played with me in the U20 national team. I heard that Elizur Netanya is a very homely club, and that this club gives the stage for young players like me. I wish to me and to the team a lot of success in the coming season and I hope that the fans will support throughout the season".

Katie Collins + Samantha Blazetic Are Ready To Lead Edinboro Womens Basketball Team Back To The NCAA Div II Tourmanment - by Vance Marbury

Katie Collins + Samantha Blazetic Are Ready To Lead Edinboro Womens Basketball Team Back To The NCAA Div II Tourmanment

Katie Collins a 58 Guard from Chardon, Ohio is a fundamentally sound player that is fun to watch play. Katie has the ability to make great passes with both hands, she is an excellent decision maker in transition, and Katie has an excellent positive attitude that is contagious to her teammates.

As a Sophomore during the 2011-12 season Katie averaged 2.5 pts, 0.5 asts, and 1.4 rebs per game. I believe during Katie Junior season, she will have a breakout year and be a very important part of the Edinboro Fighting Scots season.

Samantha Blazetic is a young lady who has overcome a lot of adversity in her life. Prior to Samantha high school freshman season, a routine physical revealed a walnut-sized lump which later proved to be a cancerous tumor. Blazetic underwent a month of radiation treatments. Six months after the first treatment, she had radiation again and then every year after that because there was still a chance thyroid cancer cells were in her body.

Now that Ms. Blazetic is cancer free she is ready to make her senior season at Edinboro University her best. As a freshman Samantha started 18 games and earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Freshman of the Week three times. Samantha averaged 9.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in during her sophomore season, earning second team All-PSAC West honors. As a junior Ms Blazetic 14.6 pts 7.1 rebs 1.3 asts 2.5 blks and 1.2 stls per game. For Samantha's hard work during her Junior season, she awarded with Womens Division II All American Honorable Mention status/awards.

Edinboro lost to Shaw University in the NCAA Division II Regional Championship Game, and with Katie and Samantha basketball skills, leadership, and motivation there is no doubt they can make it all the way to the NCAA Division II Championship game during the 2012-13 season.

Katie and Samantha participated in the 2012 JT Focus Mgt Cleveland Am Pro Women's Summer League and put in work against some formidable Division I, II, and III players in the league.
