El Naranjo 92 - Loranca 79

Unlike the first meeting, the confrontation between Loranca and El Naranjo predicted a future not very encouraging for the Loranca players who are riddled with injuries and just trying to survive the summer league. It was a great effort on Loranca's part as they never quit and they were only able to close the gap in the final minutes to 92-79. The lack of success (4/23 shots of 2, 3/20 shots 3) joined the lack of enough defense served to increase the gap until the break (17-46). In the second half saw a change in attitude when they stepped on the court, entered with renewed energy to gain assured them part of the third quarter (28-19) but, despite all your effort and the great comeback that lead would stay to 8 point lead in the 38th minute, which approached the idea of an extension, but it never happened because El Naranjo was unstoppable as they continued each time on the scoreboard. The best profile of the game, no doubt, Emiliano Void (193-G-89) of El Naranjo was very important in the victory with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in his 27 minutes on the floor.

The two games on Wednesday afternoon have led the greatest differences in score for the first time of the event. But this has only just begun. La Avanzada 88 - El Naranjo 63
On the second day of competition, it becomes evident the teams that have achieved and take a team mentality, it is directly reflected in their attitude on the floor.
This has been seen in the first meeting this afternoon and the second, between the Advanced and El Naranjo. The match started very even and with a regular rhythm, probably partly a result of the physical but especially the growing ability of communication between players, not scoring extravaganza promised (12-17 late in the first quarter) but a desperate struggle for control of the meeting. During the first half both teams took turns taking controls sharing the lead in the two sets (12-17, 24-13) to reach the break with a 36-30 for La Avanzada. Bellingham advances to face Vancouver in IBL Championship game - by Kip Leonetti

The Bellingham Slam used a big second half effort to defeat the Salem Sabres, 138-103, in the semi-finals of the International Basketball League playoffs at Eastmoreland Court on Thursday.

The Slam advance to the Championship game on Friday against the Vancouver Volcanoes, who eliminated the Portland Chinooks on their home floor in Thursday's other semi-final match, 117-109.

Bellingham, who swept the Sabres in their three regular season meetings, had trouble shaking Salem this time around. Center Blake Poole (6'5''-C-88, college: St.Martin's) came out of the gate on fire, accounting for the Slam's first nine points on three-pointers before Bellingham ended the first quarter 25-18.

Salem battled back to take a brief lead, at 37-35 with 3:34 left in the second quarter, before the Slam responded with ten of the next twelve points to build up a five-point lead, at 47-42, heading into halftime.

It was all Bellingham to start the second half, rattling off ten straight points early to build a double-digit lead for the first time, at 57-44. Salem briefly narrowed the deficit to single digits, at 64-56 on a Sergio Rosario (6'5''-F-82) three-pointer with 5:57 left, but that would be as close as they would get at Bellingham ended the third quarter with a barrage of baskets to lead by 26, at 94-69.

The Slam continued to apply pressure in the fourth quarter, scoring 44 points to ensure Salem wouldn't make a comeback. They extended their lead to 30 for the first time with 9:43 left, at 102-72, and Salem was never able to eat into the lead much after that.

In a game in which every Slam player factored in the scoring, Poole led the way with 28 points while rookie guard Rico Wilkins (6'0''-PG-88, college: W.Washington) had 24.

Salem was led by the 34 points of guard Jeff Dunn (6'6''-G), who went 8-for-14 from beyond the arc. Forward Daniel Deane (6'9''-F, college: Oregon St.) finished with a double-double of 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Slam may have played the game with added motivation after learning the team had been shutout from the league's individual awards, ranging from league MVP to Rookie of the Year, which were announced prior to the start of the game.

With Bellingham and Vancouver advancing to the Championship game, it will mark the fourth time the two teams have met in the postseason. Their last meeting was in the semi-finals of the 2012 playoffs in Bellingham, with the Slam prevailing 127-98.

Friday's title game is set for 7 p.m. at Eastmoreland Court in Portland. The contest will be broadcast live on KGMI 790 AM and online at www.kgmi.com, and a live video stream will be available at www.ibltv.com.

Spurs reach deal with Belinelli - by Eurobasket News

Belinelli played last season with the Chicago Bulls and averaged 9.6ppg while shooting 39%FG and 35% from the 3-point line. He filled in nicely as a ball handler with Derrick Rose (6'3''-G-88, college: Memphis)'s absuence due to injury and that will be a plus for the Spurs, who count on Manu Ginobili to handle the ball off the bench as the backup point guard. His shooting is something San Antonio desperately needs, especially in the Finals where the Spurs fell to the Heat. Belinelli averaged 11.1ppg on 41%FG shooting in two rounds this postseason.

Tyreke Evans leads Pelicans-Kings-Trail Blazers trade - by Eurobasket News

The Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers have a verbal agreement on a deal that will send restricted free agent Tyreke Evans (6'6''-PG-89, college: Memphis) to the Pelicans, point guard Greivis Vasquez (6'6''-PG-87, college: Maryland) to the Kings and center Robin Lopez (7'0''-C/F-88, college: Stanford) and guard Terrel Harris (6'5''-G-87, college: Oklahoma St.) to the Portland Trail Blazers, according to two people with knowledge of the situation. The Kings also get two second-round picks from Portland in the trade, one coming in 2014 and the second either the New York Knicks' pick in 2016 or the Blazers' in 2018. The people spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the trade can't be formalized until July 10. Evans gave the New Orleans Pelicans a verbal agreement on Wednesday that he would sign their four-year, $44 million offer sheet, but the 2009-10 Rookie of the Year was in waiting while his soon-to-be former team deliberated on how to avoid losing him for nothing in return rather than matching the offer. Because the Pelicans recently traded for All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday from the Philadelphia 76ers in a deal that can't be formalized until July 10, Vasquez who was a Most Improved Player candidate last season is far more expendable than before. Yet the Kings didn't decide to finalize this deal until they missed out on free agent point guard Jose Manuel Calderon (6'4''-PG-81), who declined an offer to play for them mid-day Thursday. "They showed him a great vision, made a great offer, but the timing wasn't right," Calderon's agent, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, told USA TODAY Sports. This trade likely indicates that New Orleans shooting guard Eric Gordon is staying put as well, as it frees up the logjam of guards that the Pelicans have had on their roster. The Pelicans have been open to trading Gordon, but were unable to find deals that they deemed worthy of his value. Gordon made it widely known last summer that he did not want to be in New Orleans at that time, signing an offer sheet from the Phoenix Suns for a maximum salary contract when he was a restricted free agent only to have the then-Hornets match it against his wishes. But with the Pelicans putting together a far more competitive core and Gordon expected to be fully healthy after playing just 42 games last season because of knee problems, both sides have reason for optimism about the partnership. With the Kings under new ownership and with a new general manager in former Denver Nuggets executive Pete D'Alessandro, Evans had been hopeful that the new management team would show more of a desire to keep him in town. But they instead pursued free agent small forward Andre Iguodala in what led to a bizarre and brief courting. Iguodala was given a four-year offer for $52 million by the Kings, but the offer was rescinded late Tuesday night when he didn't give an answer quickly enough for their liking. While there have been no known discussions between the Kings and Iguodala since, it remains possible that the talks could be revived and the offer re-submitted if Iguodala is unable to find a better deal elsewhere and the Kings have yet to make a move that would preclude it. The Kings went 28-54 last season, with Evans averaging 15.2 points per game, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while the uncertainty about how he would be used continued. It was all part of a decline that has certainly worn on Evans, who was dynamic in his debut campaign as a point guard but later played shooting guard and small forward. Yet the Pelicans see him as a versatile threat who would take their young core to the next level. New Orleans, which was 27-55 last season, has Gordon as a major threat at shooting guard and 2012 No. 1 pick Anthony Davis down low with stretch forward Ryan Anderson (6'10''-F-88, college: California). The Blazers, meanwhile, landed a capable big man in Lopez who is owed a combined $14.4 million for the next two seasons. The Pelicans would have had to waive him if he wasn't traded, as they needed the salary cap space for the Holiday trade and Lopez's contract is only protected for $500,000 if he gets waived by Friday. Portland had been on the lookout for a veteran center since offering Indiana Pacers big man Roy Hibbert (7'2''-C-86, college: Georgetown) a maximum salary contract a year ago (the Pacers matched the offer and retained him), and Lopez will fit nicely with forward LaMarcus Aldridge and young center Meyers Leonard. The Blazers, with reigning Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard at the helm, were 33-49 last season.

Nix Turn To Peers - by Paul Nilsen

The Cheshire Phoenix have announced the return of one of the greatest Head Coaches in BBL history - Robbie Peers - to form a dream team with Head Coach John Lavery and Assistant, Mike Burton.

Peers, himself assisted by Burton, led Cheshire's professional BBL franchise to the "Jetwash" clean sweep of titles 11 years ago. He returns to the club as Technical Director of Basketball.

He will support John Lavery as he bids to bring the glory days back as Head Coach of Cheshire Phoenix. Peers' role will include providing scouting and recruitment support and lending his experience to Lavery when called upon.

"It is great to be back," said Peers. "The club is in my blood. I have remained a fan since I left, attending games when I could.

"But to be able to return and help this great club and these great fans rebuild and make Cheshire a stronghold for basketball once more is very exciting.

"John is a great coach but you cannot run a club on your own. You need people around you that can be called upon when needed. I had Mike Burton and now John has Mike and me."

Peers saw the franchise, under a different name, being crowned BBL Champions as well as leading them to the BBL Championship Playoff title, BBL Cup and BBL Trophy in 2002.

Head coach Lavery welcomed the appointment.

"Having coached this franchise before, I know that there are plenty of difficulties and challenges throughout the season," he said.

"It is vital to have people you can bounce ideas off and whose experience you can draw on. I don't think there are many coaches who can draw on the knowledge I have around me now with Robbie and Mike."
