The team have lost Nixon Mina (205-F/C-90) for the next two matches, for this reason having give more deffensive responsabilities under the hot zone to Jhon Romero (199-F-85) who has had biggest performance in his lastes two matches, additional the support of the Young Joe Alvarado.

The pointguard rotation has been another key in this team. Pablo Reacaute and Fredy Sanmiguel have had the responsabilitie to shared the minutes in the court. Recaute has given important deffesnive minutes, and Sanmiguel is the owner of the position but Martinez has preferred gave minutes at the beggin of the match to Recaute, and at the ended of the quarters Sanmiguel took the offensive drivers.

We have certain trouble with the health of Christian Orozco, who will lost the next matches.

Martinez has considered that this tournament has been the more competitive in the lastest years, and with the exception of Triple E, any team has alternative to win the tournament.

Importadora the last year ended in the playoff when they lost with Club Iccan de Macas.
Tavarez Sledge and Jerel Blocker (193-G/F-88, college: Lee) have given the contribution of the scoreboard and the long shot to open the deffensive zone.
Importadora will visit tomorrow Barcelona Sporting Club ( direct rival) for teh 2nd place and will close the regular round at home against Leones de Riobamba next Wednesday.

Quincy Scates claims Salvadorean Liga MB weekly honour - by Eurobasket News

American Quincy Scates (197-SF-89) put on an amazing game in the last round for Quezaltepeque and that's him to receive a Latinbasket.com Liga MB Player of the Week award for round 17.
The 28-year old had a double-double of 35 points and sixteen rebounds, while his team beat Isidro Metapan (#7, 7-6) 93-78. Quezaltepeque maintains the 4th position in Salvadorean Liga MB. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Quezaltepeque will need more victories to improve their 10-4 record. In the team's last game Scates had a remarkable 57.1% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He turned to be Quezaltepeque's top player in his first season with the team. Tennessee Wesleyan College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Scates is in league's top in points (5th best: 29.4ppg) and averages solid 58.1% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 26-year old Venezuelan power forward Eliezer Montano (206-F/C-91) of El Rapido. Montano impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 28 points and 26 rebounds. Of course he led El Rapido to another comfortable win 110-91 over slightly lower-ranked Santiagueno (#11, 2-11) being unquestionably team leader. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. El Rapido keeps 9th position. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 6-8 record. Montano is a newcomer at El Rapido and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was American Slim Magee (211-C-89) of Isidro Metapan (#7). Magee got into 30-points club by scoring exactly 30 points in the last round. He went also for twenty rebounds . Despite Magee's great performance Isidro Metapan lost 78-93 to the higher-ranked Quezaltepeque (#4, 10-4). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Isidro Metapan needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 7 victories and 6 lost games. Magee has a great season in El Salvador. After 11 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 15.9rpg (6th best). He also has 4.1bpg and FGP: 65.2%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Osmel Oliva (178-PG-87) of El Rapido - 36 points, 3 rebounds and 10 assists
5. Shahmel Brackett (183-PG-91) of Santiagueno - 34 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists
6. Jared Ruiz (188-G-92) of Halcones - 27 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Robert Kenteh) of Cojute - 16 points and 14 rebounds
8. Maurice Williams (196-PF) of Santiagueno - 26 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Santiago Esperanza (185-SG-93) of Santiagueno - 24 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
10. Yoel Cubillas (204-C-94) of El Rapido - 9 points and 19 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

Eurobasket Select Team Wins German Tour Opener in Overtime against Salzkotten! - by ESL News

The Eurobasket Select Team came from behind to get the win in overtime in the first game of the 2017 German Tour against TV 1864 Salzkotten. 'This was the first time these guys had a chance to play with each other and coming off of the long trip to Europe yesterday, I was proud how we came together as one unit to get the win,' Eurobasket Head Coach Allen Mkrtychyan said. Eurobasket trailed for most of the game including trailing by 5 at halftime, by 9 mid way through the third, and 5 again to start the 4th quarter.

Spirited efforts by the second unit in Zach Gordon (203-F-93, college: Cal Poly - SLO), Luke Cochran (208-C), Marquis Marshall (196-F-93, college: Alvernia, PA), Quaderrick Shaw (191-G-93, college: Florida St.), and Kenny Bellinger (185-G-92, college: Armstr.Atlantic) pulled the team back to 78-76 lead with 20 seconds remaining in the game. TV 1864 Salzkotten Head Coach Stefan Schettke drew up a perfect play out of a timeout to get a layup and send the game to overtime. However, Eurobasket would use a Bellinger three pointer, Killven Samuel (188-G-89, college: Northeastern St.) three pointer, and two separate steals from Ryan Burnett (196-G/F-92, college: Columbus St.) that transitioned into points. The final score ended in a double figure win for Eurobasket but the score does not do justice to the effort put forth by TV 1864 Salzkotten.

ESL marched out Isaiah Butler (188-G-92), Shaw, Burnett, Nick Trisko (203-C, college: Spalding), and Drew Sears (213-G) to start the tour. 'I felt the first few minutes took some time to find our rhythm. We took a lot of quick shots and honestly just had a lot of nervous energy to get out. This is the first time most of these players have played in a professional European game,' Mkrtychyan said. Burnett finished with a team high 14 points to go along with 2 rebounds and a pair of steals. Shaw added 10 points and three steals while Sears and Trisko each contributed valuable minutes in the overtime to seal the win.

'I felt that our second unit had the benefit of absorbing the flow of the game in the first few minutes from the bench, and they really came on strong for us not only in the first half but to close the end of regulation,' ESL Director Dustin Simcox said. 'Gordon and Samuel each had 6 steals for us tonight and really got us active that helped accumulate 22 total steals in the game. With the amount of turnovers we had in on offense that was really the difference between winning and losing tonight.' Gordon had the most impressive stat line across the board for ESL with 9 points, 9 rebounds, and the 6 steals. Other contributions off the Eurobasket bench consisted of Marshall's 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists and Cochran's all around performance on the block getting 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

Jordan Stotts (203-F-93, college: Sioux Falls), Grant Prusator (183-PG-94, college: Arkansas Tech), Kris Bell (206-F/C, college: Ft.Valley St.), and Arvel Atwater (196-F) all had their scheduled off days against TV 1864 Salzkotten and will make their debuts tomorrow as ESL will take on VfL AstroStars Bochum at 6 pm in Bochum. Stay tuned for those results.

He spoke to eurobasket about basketball.

TJ welcome back to Germany. You are playing your fifth season in Germany and second with the Telekom Baskets Bonn. Even though you and your brother are true Americans you also have the German citizenship. Which of you guys has more of a connection to Germany? Is it you simply because you have been here 2 years longer?

Yea, I would say I have more of a connection because I have been here a few years longer, and also because I was born here.

You and your brother will be like neighbors now that he is playing in Cologne. If you had to make a prediction as to who will visit whom most in their city would you take yourself just like you would in a one on one game?

I think I will visit him more, but hopefully our schedules line up so we can see a lot of each other's games.

How was your summer. Did the summer fly by quickly? What was your most memorable thing that you did in the summer?

Summer was great, but as always, it went by fast. I spent it at home in the states. My most memorable moment was being best man at my friend's wedding, and getting to roast him during the speech.

I saw the loss to Nanterre live and was shocked that the Telekom Baskets Bonn let it slip away. Did that fourth quarter come up here and there in your thoughts over the summer and what did the team learn from this loss that will help them be stronger in those kind of situation this season?

Yea, I think about that game a lot, especially because it would have put us in the finals. We went to Nanterre and did our jobs, winning by 1. Then we played well for three quarters at home, but had a collapse in the fourth. Also have to credit Nanterre because they played great. But I think we learned that we can't let up against anyone. Teams will always go on runs during games, but we can't panic. We have to find ways to stop the bleeding. We have to take care of the ball, take good shots, and be focused on defense. Especially at times when the other team is playing with confidence.

Last season for the Telekom Baskets Bonn you played 36 games averaging 4.2ppg, 1.4rpg, 2.4apg. In comparison to your first BBL season with Giessen your stats didn't change too much, but you averaged 5 minutes less per game than in Giessen. Were you happy with your season and was it better than your debut season in the BBL with Giessen?

I'm happy with my season mainly because I feel like I developed a lot throughout. I think the last few months of the season were much better for me than the beginning. It was encouraging to see improvement in the second half of the season because it gave me confidence coming into this season.

Last season in the FIBA Europe Cup you played 16 games averaging 5.1ppg, 2.0rpg, 3.1apg, 1.3spg, FGP: 55.6%, 3PT: 29.4%, FT: 70.0%.How content were you with your first professional international season and how will you want to step up your play this season in the more competitive Basketball Champions League?

It was a great experience playing in the Fiba Europe Cup for my first international experience. It's always great to have two games a week, and to be able to travel to different parts of Europe. I'm happy with my first season, especially because we were pretty successful in the competition. This season in champions league, I will still have the same mindset of doing whatever the team needs me to do. But I'm looking to be a little more confident and aggressive, similar to how I was at the end of last season.

You stated last season that 'A big focus of mine has been to try and read the situations. I try to know what plays have been working, know when its time to get different guys touches on offense, and also know when its time for me to be a playmaker'. You were playing a lot more point guard due to injuries. With Konstantin Klein back and another guard in the rotation with Ron Curry, how do you see your role being this season?

I think my role will be similar, probably playing a mix of point guard and shooting guard. With myself, Konsti, Ron, and Josh we have four guys who can play on and off the ball. It takes a little pressure off when we have multiple guys on the floor who can bring the ball up and set up the offense.

This season the Telekom Baskets Bonn will play a level up in the Basketball Champions League and continue to battle in the BBL for the playoffs. What particularly did you work on most this summer so you will be best prepared to be successful on the court?

One of my biggest goals this summer was to come back in great shape so I could continue where I left off at the end of last season, when my body felt great. More specifically to basketball, I worked on a lot of mid range stuff like floaters and pull up jumpers. Also worked on my 3 point shooting off the dribble.

The Telekom Baskets Bonn are back from a training camp in Slovenia. Please give a recap of how the new team is coming together? There are injuries and players absent, but what is your early impression?

We are still missing some guys on the court, but I'm happy with what I see so far. We've got good guys that really fit coach's style of aggressive play. I was pretty surprised to see how quickly the offense has started to click. I think if we go out and play the defense that we're capable of, then we will have a successful season.

I thought Mayo belonged to the best 3-4 point guards last season in the BBL. How glad are you to have him on board again and is he capable to make another leap in his game now at age 30 despite being a top player for years in numerous countries.

It's hard to ask for much more than what Josh gave us on the court last season, but if he's capable of it then that would be nice to have haha. He's definitely one of the top point guards in the league, and I'm sure he will continue his strong play this year.

The club brought in some new guys including Jordan Parks. How impressed have you been with his game and will he be able to fill the shoes of Ken Horton?

I've been really impressed with Jordan. He's really athletic, moves well, defends, and is willing to learn. He's one of those guys that can do a lot of things on the court, but most importantly he's got a great attitude. Ken was awesome for us last year. He was a great teammate and there were a few games that he definitely won for us. It will be hard to fill his shoes. They are different players, but I think Jordan has the potential to be just as valuable in his own way.

Ron Curry is injured and Nemanja Djurisic is away with his countries national team. What has been your impression of German Martin Breunig. He had huge stats at Montana and is a huge talent. Do you see him playing a bigger role than Johannes Richter did last year who didn't see ample minutes?

I've been really impressed with Martin. He's sneaky athletic, and when he's playing with confidence he can be a real contributor to this team. He finishes well with both hands and he's a good pick and roll player. We're going to need him this season for sure.

One guy everyone in basketball Bonn has their eyes on is German Konstantin Klein. He started off well last season and got injured and now is healthy again and hit KK Rogaska for 12 points. Is he the old Konsti and could he become that added scoring threat and defensive bull dog that could have made the difference between a win and loss last season in some games?

Of course. Its great to see Konsti back because I know how hard he worked at the end of last season and during the offseason to get healthy and back in basketball shape again. When he's on the court you always know you're going to get 110% from him. He's going to always pressure the point guard full court, and he always has the potential to catch fire and give us that extra scoring that we will need. He will be a huge difference maker this season.

American Kameron Taylor was added from the Dragons Rhondorf to help fill the void for Ron Curry. He is a proven Pro A player and will play in the Pro B this season. It's never easy for a player to take a step back, but has he proven that he can keep up with BBL players?

Yea, Kameron came with us to training camp and he fit right in. He's very athletic and has a great shot. He will be one of the leaders on the Rhondorf team.

Your ex coach Denis Wucherer took over the RheinStars Cologne. How long will it take him to lead the team into the EasyCredit BBL?

Hopefully only one year, but you never know in the Pro A. It can be unexpected as you saw with Gotha advancing last season. I know he'll do a great job and have his team playing solid basketball. If they are playing their best basketball come playoff time, then I think they have a great shot.

Lebron James failed to win his fourth NBA title and is still three away from Michael Jordan. Where does Lebron stand right now in your opinion in the never ending debate of who is the best of all-time?

He's still behind Jordan, but I think he's in the top 3.

How do you summarize the 2017 NBA Draft. What sleepers do you see playing a role in the NBA?

I think this draft had a lot of talent, especially at the top of the draft. I guess he's not a sleeper because he went at pick 9, but I wouldn't be surprised if Dennis Smith turned out to be one of the top 2 players from this draft.

Where will the journey of the Houston Rockets go this season with Chris Paul and James Harden in the back court. Do they have enough to make a serious run at the title or is something missing?

I think they will be really successful, having two of the best playmakers in the league in the backcourt. I just think it is still too hard to compete with a healthy Golden State in the west.

How do you rate the Kyrie Irving-Isaiah Thomas trade? Who got the better deal and which team will profit better in the long run?

I like the trade for both teams. I think we will know who got the better of the deal depending on who the Cavs take with the draft pick they received.

What was the last movie that you saw?

Get out

Thanks TJ for the chat.

Sava Lesic Makes Jump To The Oettinger Rockets - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber

Kaimyn Pruitt Returns Back To The Itzehoe Eagles - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber

Kaimyn Pruitt is a 27 year old 203cm forward that will be going into his fourth professional season. Charlons-Reims aim for turnaround with Bentil signing - by Yaw Mintah

French Pro A side Charlons-Reims' capture of Ghana Forward Ben Bentil and Coach Cedric Heitz is highly indicative of the team's aim to improve on the 2016-2017 campaign. Reims open the new season with a game against Dijon on September 23.

The Northern French side finished 16th in the 18 team division narrowly missing the drop to Pro B but has set sights on a higher finish in the upcoming season. After signing Pro B Coach of the Year Heitz to a two year deal, former Providence College star Bentil has been contracted to the team for a year.

The 6 foot 8 inch Forward is the first Ghana born player to play in the NBA after getting drafted 51st overall in the 2016 Draft following a breakout year with the Friars. He has since featured for Dallas Mavericks, Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA's lower tier competition-the Gatorade League- and Xinjiang Gunaghui Flying Tigers in the Chinese Basketball Association.

The time in France could be key in the Sekondi-born player's pursuit of a permanent spot in the NBA following his ten day stint with Dallas Mavericks. He recently played for San Antonio Spurs in this year's Summer League but did not feature much for the Spurs.

Navy, Fire Service deliver consecutive wins in Women's Division - by Yaw Mintah

Ghana Navy and Fire Service have delivered straight wins over Tudu Galaxy and University of Ghana (UG) in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women's Division. Navy beat Galaxy 45-30 in the opening game of the two game round played at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu with Fire pummeling UG 69-13 in the second game.

The wins represent consecutive victories for Fire and Navy over UG and Galaxy after the former pair recorded 45-39 and 63-11 respectively in a previous encounter in the second half of the season.

Long range conversions from the likes of Maria Mensah got Navy in the lead from a 10-11 first quarter loss with ample help coming from Memuna Mumuni and Grace Yinamyah. A six point burst in the final quarter reduced Galaxy's deficit to 10 (30-40) in the final quarter with Selina Quaye and Barbara Amoah delivering jump shots. However, that was the closest Tudu got to Navy as the Mariners scored late buckets to stretch the lead.

The second game on the night was practically a no contest matchup as Fire easily put University of Ghana aside. At the end of the first half, Fire held a 34-7 lead with Guard Carlyn Adjei dominating the fixture.

Most of the players will be in action in the Basketball Festival in Cape-Coast for the next two days for various teams after receiving invitations to participate in the tournament. Teams from several regions in Ghana are expected to compete in the tournament; Navy's Maria Mensah was named Most Valuable Player in last year's female division.

B.C. hall-of-fame basketball coach ‘fired' - by Eurobasket News

After 39 years and more than 1,000 wins in high school basketball, including three provincial championships, Pitt Meadows basketball coach Rich Goulet will no longer be beside the bench. He's not happy about the way he has been asked to leave, and neither are many of the Marauders' alumni. Parents from last year's team complained to administration, and Goulet has been 'fired' from the program he built. Mike Alain was selected for Goulet's first Grade 7 all-star team, and was coached by him from 1994 to 2000 - a run that ended in a provincial championship. 'I couldn't appreciate him more,' said Alain. 'My mom has reiterated to me many times that I probably would not have graduated if not for him.' The headstrong Alain clashed with Goulet, who sometimes yelled until he lost his voice during a game. But Alain never felt Goulet was treating him unfairly. He said Goulet deserves accolades and to retire on his own terms - not to be forced out of the game. 'It makes me sick to my stomach,' he said. 'That high school owes him. How is that gym not named after him?' Bruce Duthie was coached by Goulet from the age of nine until he graduated - also part of that 1992 team. 'I have a huge degree of respect for him,' he said of Goulet, and would like to see him honoured on his way out. 'He pushed us, he was in our face, he worked our asses off, but it was never to the point of, This isn't right.'' But some of the kids on last year's senior team were not used to it, and Goulet believes that's part of why he was asked to quit coaching. 'They think I was negative, because I gave a lot of speeches about what they needed to do to get better.' Goulet outlines a frustrating season, where many of his Grade 12 players were simply not willing to work up to the standards of the program. He said he had to fight with players, and bench them, to get 'a basic effort. 'We weren't even competitive at triple-A … My goodness.' he said. 'I never ask anyone to like me when I coach them. I just ask them to do what I want them to do.Maybe I got cranky.' If he crossed a line, he said some of the players were also disrespectful to him. His assistant coach, Ron Wallsmith, doesn't recall any incident that would have led to Goulet losing his status as coach. 'Those things don't stand out in my mind,' he said. Goulet said the school board conducted an investigation into parent complaints, and afterward he was asked to return and help run the program - but not on the bench. 'Why would I do that? You just fired me as a coach,' he said.'I'm not here to impose myself to people who don't want me.' Neither the school board nor Pitt Meadows secondary principal Mike Keenan would comment, saying personnel matters must remain confidential. Goulet feels he was not given a fair hearing. He had been retired from teaching for 14 months, coaching as a volunteer, and says the school administration can dismiss a volunteer at a whim. Walton said coaches around the province have pulled out of Pitt Meadows' annual Air Show Tournament, and threaten to boycott games against Pitt Meadows. Their schedule could be affected. Goulet is going to miss it. 'I won't miss all the work, or going to practice at 7 a.m. in a freezing gym,' he said. 'But I love basketball, and I love people who love basketball.'

Former UNC basketball star to coach his high school alma mater - by Eurobasket News

David Noel (6'7''-G/F-84, college: N.Carolina) is coming home. The former North Carolina standout will take the reins of his high school alma mater, Southern Durham, as the boys basketball coach this winter. Noel was a football and basketball star for the Spartans before playing for the Tar Heels. Most schools recruited him as a football player, and he originally committed to UNC as a football player before enrolling as a basketball walk-on. But he went on to play a key role off the bench on the 2005 national championship team and was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2006. He spent one year in the NBA and has since been playing in the NBDL and overseas basketball leagues. 'We are super excited to bring Mr. Noel on board and look forward to a great program being continued here at Southern School of Energy and Sustainability,' said Southern athletics director Crystal Massenburg in a statement. Noel replaces Kendrick Hall, who stepped down in July after five seasons as the program's coach. Southern went 19-8 last year and reached the third round of the state 3A playoffs. In the 2015-16 season, the Spartans went 22-4 and reached the 3A East semifinals (fourth round).

New Orleans Pelicans guard Frank Jackson (6'3''-G-98) will have surgery on Friday after fracturing his foot. Former St. John's guard Sid Wilson transfers to UConn - by Eurobasket News

UConn has landed a commitment from St. John's transfer Sidney Wilson (6'7''-F). Wilson is a four-star prospect that was originally in the Class of 2018, but the 6-foot-6 wing reclassified and enrolled with the Johnnies this summer. The experiment did not go well, and eventually the school and the player opted to part ways. There were too many 'distractions,' as one source put it, with the New York native being back in the city for college. When Wilson picked the Johnnies, UConn was one of the finalists. Like Taurean Thompson's transfer from Syracuse to Seton Hall, there wasn't much of a surprise in how this one turned out. Wilson will have to sit out the 2017-18 season, but he'll be eligible for 2018-19, just like he would have had he remained in the Class of 2018.

After years abroad, Royce O'Neale ready to make Utah his new basketball home - by David Edole

By Benjamin Mehic

SALT LAKE CITY - Royce O'Neale (198-SF-93, college: Baylor)< waited two years to get the phone call.

Sitting in his hotel room in July, O'Neale was keeping up with all the unprecedented NBA chaos amid the unbearable summer heat. He checked his social media accounts, waiting for another shakeup as stars like Chris Paul, Paul George and Gordon Hayward departed from their original clubs. Then his agent called.

Having networked around the league, he knew that teams had 'interest,' whatever that meant. The Utah Jazz, though, unlike the other teams O'Neale had worked out for, wanted more than just a cup of coffee, his agent told him. They wanted a three-year deal.

At 24, O'Neale has already done more traveling than most do in a lifetime. He visited Lithuania with a teammate from Baylor as part of a school program, which became a precursor for his eventual professional career.

After all 30 NBA teams passed on him in the 2015 draft, O'Neale found himself surrounded by unfamiliarity in Germany. O'Neale clung to basketball, as it was often the only recognizable aspect of his newfound basketball life overseas.

But after playing for three European teams, including Gran Canaria in Spain and most recently Ludwigsburg in Lithuania, O'Neale was ready to finally make the jump.

'At that moment, I felt like, 'oh dang.' I'm about to be in the NBA,'' said O'Neale about how he reacted to his agent's news. 'I'm finally getting the chance. It was a blessing, really. It still hasn't sunk in. It's taking a while. I can say I made it to the NBA, but I can't officially say it until the season starts.'

How he got here

O'Neale had more than 20 workouts during the predraft process, and although some expressed a desire in keeping him stateside, he had to take a different route in Europe. While some of his teammates had families or significant others for support in Europe, O'Neale was alone, entirely focused on earning an NBA contract.

'The traveling and working out was fun,' O'Neale said. 'But not getting drafted sucked. It never stopped me from working out and didn't keep me from improving my game. [Going overseas] was a change, but traveling and playing basketball was good for me.'

During the 2017 Las Vegas NBA Summer League, O'Neale had his fourth tryout in the circuit, this time with the New Orleans Pelicans. When the summer league campaigns with Boston, Golden State and Los Angeles didn't result in a contract, O'Neale kept working, knowing that the phone would eventually ring.

Averaging just 4.6 points and 3.6 rebounds for the Pelicans, O'Neale didn't seem to do enough to get an NBA contract, but the Jazz - known for finding hidden gems behind their use of advanced stats and thorough scouting - saw enough to offer him a deal.

Needing depth at the wing positions, Utah's brass was impressed by O'Neale's versatility and ability to mold his game to what the team needed on the floor.

' (The Jazz) just pretty much told me to keep improving and try not to do anything I don't usually do,' O'Neale said. 'I'll keep working hard and do what got me here - by being an all-around player, playing offense and defense, passing and my versatility. I try to work on every aspect of my game.'

O'Neale had re-signed with Ludwigsburg this summer, but had an 'NBA out' clause in his contract. He had gotten situated in Lithuania after moving from country to country, but wouldn't pass on the opportunity to sign the three-year deal with Utah, even though only the first year is guaranteed.

Some of his teammates from Europe, like Bo McCalebb, who's long been rumored to sign with an NBA team, had given O'Neale advice on what to do when the call finally came. Through seeing how people in the different parts of the world live, O'Neale didn't feel much intense pressure to find an NBA contract. He felt like it would come, as long as he controlled what he could - his play on the court.

'I was going to do whatever I needed to do and take whatever route to make it to the NBA,' O'Neale said. 'It's all about timing the right opportunities.'

Utah currently has 16 players under guaranteed contracts - one of them being O'Neale. The NBA only allows 15 contracts and two additional ones designated for players in the NBA G-League.

O'Neale recognizes that signing an NBA contract isn't comparable to finding a role on a team. But after years of travel, discussions with teams, getting turned down and having to go back overseas, he's prepared to make Salt Lake City his new NBA home.

'I just trusted the process and stuck with it,' O'Neale said. 'You never know when you'll make it. Everyone has a different route.'

PIB Pinelands the Queens of KO Basketball - by Eurobasket News

PIB Pinelands cruised to the #1 Beauty Supplies Exchange Women's Knockout title in the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association's Final at the Barbados Community College on Wednesday night. Coming up against the Lady Cavs, Pinelands had just moments before witnessed their Under-19 Boys' team win the title, and must have been inspired to continue the winning trend. Imposing in the block was Latifa Wood (C), who was going about her work in an efficient manner to finish with a game-high 21 points. Her team-mate Maria Cumberbatch (163-SG) was like a live wire on the court, sprinting from end to end on countless times - be it for offence or defence, it did not matter as she never gave up. Cumberbatch's defender had a hard time keeping up with the energy out put during the match, and it allowed the Pinelands guard to escape for some open looks as Cumberbatch finished with 17 points. The Lady Cavs struggled on the offensive end with only the veteran Astrid Alleyne (185-F/C-78) being consistent with the scoring to finish with 17 points. However, the Lady Cavs never matched Pinelands in the scoring and were outscored in each quarter as Pinelands lead 30-20 at the half. With only one other player in double figures, the Lady Cavs went down in the end 69-46. For Pinelands, Wood and Cumberbatch were well supported by Tamisha Flatts with 15 points and Sade Clarke with 13 points. For the Lady Cavs, the other player in double figures was Jada Saunders with 10 points.
