Germany - The Dirk Madrich Globetrotting Mission Continues With The EWE Baskets Oldenburg  - by Miles Schmidt-Scheuber

Dirk Madrich (212-C-83) has been known for years as being one of the toughest players on the court in the Beko BBL and won't shy away from any opponent and if you watch him closely just enjoys the game no mater if he is in Dorsten, Strassburg, Greece or Grevenbroich. He has lived the basketball globetrotting life for 16 years now and at the age of 32 still can't settle in one place and will play for his 13th professional team this season in Oldenburg. 2009 Beko BBL champion EWE Baskets Oldenburg had to find a replacement for the sudden retirement of Robin Smuelders and quickly found Dirk Madrich (212-C-83). In the last five years, he seemed to calmed down from moving from club to club each season as he had played the last two seasons for the Telekom Baskets Bonn and before that balled three seasons with SC Rasta Vechta. Last season for the Telekom Baskets Bonn he played 31 games averaging 7.2ppg, 3.5rpg, FGP: 47.1%, 3PT: 36.0%, FT: 72.6%; Eurocup: 10 games: 9.1ppg, 3.1rpg, FGP: 47.2%, 3PT: 38.9%, FT: 88.2%. "We had to find a replacement for Robin Smeulders and looked for a position five player. We feel that Dirk at 212cm who has a good shot will be a good solution behind Brian Qvale. He has experience, can rebound, will get integrated quickly and fits to us with his charachter", added Srdjan Klaric. "Head coach Mladen Drijencic is also confident that Dirk Madrich (212-C-83) will be a big help for the team. "I think that he wants to prove himself. I feel that he wanted to come to Oldenburg. In his first season with Bonn, he functioned in a team that played team basektball. He will find this situation again with us. Teams will have even a harder time adjusting to us with his dangerous outside shot", added Mladen Drijencic.
Maderich started his basketball career in 2000 with
BG Dorsten (Regionalliga). He then moved to Braunschweig where he played three seasons also having a double license for their farm team. In 2004 he moved to GHP Bamberg (1.Bundesliga): ULEB Cup: 5 games: 2,8ppg, 1.8rpg, FGP: 77.8%; German Bundesliga: 17 games: 1.8ppg, 1.6rpg, also a license for TSV Breitenguessbach (2.Bundesliga, starting five): 13 games: 10.2ppg, 7.8rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 56.2%, 3FGP: 25.0%, FT: 58.1%. In 2005 he moved back to BS|Energy Braunschweig (1.Bundesliga): 22 games: 3.1ppg, 2.2rpg. In 2006, he got his first international experience with Strasbourg IG (France-ProA): ULEB Cup: 13 games: 4.1ppg, 2.8rpg; French League: 31 games: 4.5ppg, 2.7rpg. He then played for teh Artland Dragons from 2007-2009. In the 2009-2010 season he played for AEP Olimpiada Patron (Greece-A2), 5 games: 8.8ppg, 3.6rpg, FGP: 75.0%, FT: 87.5%, then moved to Konstantin Elephants Grevenbroich (Regionalliga) playing 4 games: 12.5ppg. In the 2010-2011 season he played for the LTi Giessen 46ers (1.Bundesliga): 30 games: 3.4ppg, 1.9rpg. He then played for SC Rasta Vechta from 2011-2014 helping the team move from the Pro B to Pro A and then to the Beko BBL playing a total of 99 games. "I didn't have to think long before signing with the EWE Baskets. I feel comfortable in the north as I lived here before. Oldenburg is a great address. I think I will fit well into the team since Brian Qvale is strong on the boards and I am dangerous from outside. My first year in Bonn as good, but my second season we didn't find each other as a team. I am very happy to come to a team with a good team chemistry. I feel good and want to attack once more. Oldenburg has been successful for years. Their big quality is their continuity. Keeping players for many years is the way to success. Other players could orientate themselves on the hard working Rickey Paulding", stressed Dirk Madrich (212-C-83).
