Venezuela - Guaros de Lara signed Jorge Arrieta as new head coach for LPB and Liga de las Americas  - by Francisco Vega - 4 hours ago

Barquisimeto, Venezuela.- Venezuelan Jorge Arrieta was signed by Guaros de Lara as its new head coach for the upcoming season of Liga Profesional de Baloncesto (LPB) and the team's participation in the FIBA Americas League as defending champions.
Arrieta will work for the organization for third time in his career, as he was the head coach back in the 2011 season (13-30) and then came back as first assistant coach in the LPB (2015) and head coach for the team's first ever LNB title in 2014 (as Columbus 99, an affiliate team name).
Arrieta is also a three-time LPB champion (2003, 2004, 2012) as head coach of Marinos de Anzoategui and has experience in leagues of Mexico and the Dominican Republic. He was also the head coach of Venezuela's B Senior National Team in the 2015 Borislav Stankovic Cup in China.
He'll be the team's first Venezuelan head coach since the acquisition of the franchise by Jorge Hernandez, as both Oscar Silva (2012) and Daniel Seoane (2016) were only interim head coaches.
"It's an honor to be in the top organization of the moment in Venezuela with such a group of important players", said Arrieta through a team statement. "It's a personal satisfaction because very important names were taken into consideration for this position and it gives me back the opportunity to win championships in Venezuela".
"I gotta have a meeting with the team's main board. We'll have to make some decisions but we know we need help in the 1, 2 and 3 positions, because as far as 4 or 5, we're covered with 4 pillars that are doing their task very well", said Arrieta about the roster structure and the possible hiring of foreign players.
The fact that the team could play the FIBA Americas League without an ongoing national league as backup, he said that the team will lack rythm inevitably even though Guaros "was active in the South American League and hasn't stopped all year as a team, which is a plus for us".
Arrieta replaces Ivan Deniz (agency: Pro Sports ) after only 7 international games as head coach, including a win in the 2016 FIBA Intercontinental Cup, played in Germany back in September. Deniz had replaced Argentinian Nestor Garcia , who was close to coming back but was later hired by Quimsa in his country's LNB.

Iran - Kashan lands Ivan Koljevic  - by Eurobasket News - 1 day ago

Newly promoted Shahrdary Kashan (Superleague) tabbed 32-year old Montenegrin ex-international point guard Ivan Koljevic (187-79kg-84) from Shahrdary Arak. In 33 Superleague games in Iran he averaged 7.0ppg, 1.9rpg and 1.7apg last season. He helped them to make it to the semifinals.
The previous (2015) summer Koljevic played at Naft Abadan where in 11 Superleague games he was fourth best scorer with impressive 21.8ppg and recorded 5.0rpg, 4.4apg (top 2) and 1.8spg (in top 4) in 2015 season. He can count that year as a very successful as was selected to Asia-Basket.com All-Iranian Superleague 2nd Team.
His team won Polish League Supercup in 2012.
Koljevic also represented Montenegro at the Qualifications to European Championships 2011 six years ago. His stats at that event were 2 games: 5.5ppg, 1.5apg.
Koljevic is a very experienced player. And here thanks to pro basketball he experienced life in eight different countries playing on three different continents. He is familiar with European, Asian and of course North American leagues. Koljevic has played previously professionally also in Greece (Trikalla), Lithuania (Lietuvos rytas), Russia (Ural Great), Spain (RETAbet Bilbao Basket), Turkey (Bornova), Ukraine (BC Odessa, Khimik and Cherkasy) and Poland (PGE Turow and Polpharma).
Let's have closer look into His outlook: Big talent. Fantastic shooter. He is especially excellent in shooting for 3 points. On his days, he can't miss!!! Very fast player, great ball handler and passer. Has excellent dribbling. This is his 3rd season as pro, and 2nd in Buducnost. Has played in Euroleague last season. But, he still very often makes mistakes in offense. He is not strong enough. And needs to improve defense. But, he can score from any position in key moments. His former teammate, Aleksandar Pavlovic, is already playing for Utah Jazz. Koljevic is even better than him and 1 year younger!!!
+ fantastic 3 point shooter (in key moments also)
- strength, defense
Outlook (by NBADraft.TK):
Promissing point guard, who is quick footed, has gerat ball handling skills and can score both in penetration and from the outside; has really a huge upside.
Strengths: A very flashy player with incredible quickness. One of the quickest players in all of Europe. Has an excellent crossover dribble and great ball handling skills. Plays more like an American style game, then the prototypical European point guards. Great at penetrating the defense and slashing to the basket. Good shooter who loves to shoot the three.
Weaknesses: Play can get very out of control. Sometimes forces up ridiculously difficult shots. Tends to launch contested threes that have a very low chance of going in. Might not have the leadership ability to lead a NBA team. Very turnover prone. His decision making is poor and sometimes loses focus of his teammates. Despite his skills he does not play like a pure point guard. A horrible defensive player. He will get beat off the dribble by almost every point guard in the NBA. Lacks the lateral mobility to stay in front of his man

On Richards: (by Aran Smith for NBADraft.net in 2010)
A player who looks extremely impressive in a workout setting due to his size, agility and touch ... The young bigman shows the ability to shoot with both hands and has some range on his shot ... Utilizes hook shots well and has the basics of playing in the post with footwork and post moves.
Coming from England, he didn't grow up in a basketball environment and lacks the natural feel for the game that someone who does, possesses ... His basketball IQ is a work in progress
