NBA - Suns trade P.J. Tucker to the Raptors for 2nd-round picks, Jared Sullinger  - by Eurobasket News - 20 hours ago

Phoenix Suns small forward P.J. Tucker (6'6''-F-85, college: Texas), the longest-tenured player on the roster, is leaving the Valley. Tucker has been traded to the Toronto Raptors, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski first reported. In exchange, Phoenix will receive Toronto's unprotected second-round picks for 2017 and 2018, according to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM's John Gambadoro, and the expiring $5.6 million contract of Jared Sullinger (6'9''-F-92, college: Ohio St.), who has battled injuries this year, is averaging 3.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in just 11 games this season. The Suns were attempting to hold out for a first-round pick in exchange for Tucker, but those were hard to come by in a deep draft and with teams interested in Tucker not having a first-rounder to give. The Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Clippers, Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics and Utah Jazz all also reportedly had interest in the Suns veteran. Tucker, 31, is averaging seven points and six rebounds per game in a newfound bench role for the Suns this season. His defensive prowess, rebounding and intangibles - not to mention his expiring contract - made him a good fit for teams looking to win. Tucker signed with the Suns in 2012 after spending multiple seasons overseas. He was originally drafted by the Toronto Raptors in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft but didn't stay in the league past his rookie season. Seeking a return to the NBA in 2012-13, Tucker was brought to camp by then-general manager and fellow Texas product Lance Blanks and impressed for the Suns' summer league team. He was signed and then went on to start in 45 games. In the next three seasons, Tucker would start in 224 of his 241 games. This season, Tucker has taken a backseat to starting small forward T.J. Warren (6'8''-F-95, college: N.Carolina St.). He has started 17 of his 57 games this year, filling in for Warren when his teammate missed time with a minor head injury. Since joining the team, Tucker has missed only eight games in four-plus seasons while providing constant energy to the Suns that made him a fan favorite. In 2014, Tucker was arrested in Scottsdale for an extreme DUI and was suspended for the first three games of the 2014-15 season. Later in that same season, he was suspended for violating team rules. He has won the Dan Majerle Hustle Award five straight years. Tucker is one of the driving forces behind the Suns leading the league in technical fouls this season. He has eight this season and 37 in his career.

NBA - Suns trade for Mike Scott, send cash to Hawks  - by Eurobasket News - 20 hours ago

The Phoenix Suns moved closer to the salary cap floor at the trade deadline by acquiring forward Mike Scott (6'8''-F-88, college: Virginia) from the Atlanta Hawks for cash, according to The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. Scott is on an expiring deal worth $3.3 million. 'Basically it's a salary cap move to get closer there,' The Vertical's front office expert Bobby Marks said on the site's trade deadline webcast. The 6-foot-8, 237-pound Scott is averaging 2.5 points and 2.1 rebounds per game in 18 appearances. He had a breakout campaign with Atlanta in 2013-14, playing in 80 games with six starts while averaging 9.6 points and 3.6 rebounds. The four-year veteran shot 48 percent overall that season. Last year, he played 75 games and became a 39-percent stretch power forward while averaging 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per outing. Atlanta found Scott expendable after acquiring Ersan Ilyasova and giving Scott's playing time to stretch big Mike Muscala this season.

NBA - Lakers acquire Tyler Ennis from Rockets  - by Eurobasket News - 20 hours ago

The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired guard Tyler Ennis (6'2''-G-94, college: Syracuse) from the Houston Rockets, league sources told The Vertical. The Lakers sent guard Marcelinho Huertas (6'3''-PG-83) to Houston in exchange for Ennis, sources said. The Rockets will waive Marcelinho Huertas. Houston also traded guard K.J. McDaniels (6'6''-G/F-93, college: Clemson) to the Brooklyn Nets just before the deadline. That move freed $3 million in salary-cap space for the Rockets to use on the buyout market. Ennis, 22, averaged 1.9 points and 1.1 assists in limited minutes over 31 games for the Rockets this season. He was the No. 18 pick in the 2014 NBA draft.

NBA - Bucks trade Roy Hibbert to Nuggets  - by Eurobasket News - 20 hours ago

The Milwaukee Bucks have traded Roy Hibbert (7'2''-C-86, college: Georgetown) to the Denver Nuggets, per the Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. The Nuggets will send a heavily protected second-round pick in return. Milwaukee is not likely to ever see that pick. The deal is a salary dump for Milwaukee, and Denver is willing to take the money to get closer to the salary floor. Hibbert's game is outdated as centers are more mobile than ever in today's game. He's no longer worth the value he once was. He was traded by the Charlotte Hornets earlier in the month with Spencer Hawes in exchange for Miles Plumlee (6'11''-PF-88, college: Duke). Hibbert is averaging five points and four rebounds in 16 minutes per game this season, and never touched the floor in Milwaukee. It's unclear if he will find time on the floor for Denver either behind Nikola Jokic (6'10''-C-95, agency: BeoBasket) and and newly-acquired Mason Plumlee (6'11''-F-90, college: Duke). This deal seems to have been made for pure financial reasons.

Gibson is in his eighth year in the NBA out of the University of Southern California. He's averaging over 11 points and seven rebound per game. McDermott is averaging over 10 points and 37 percent from three per game in his third year in the league.

NBA - Sixers To Trade Nerlens Noel To Mavericks  - by Eurobasket News - 20 hours ago

The Sixers are in agreement with the Mavericks on a deal that will send Nerlens Noel (6'11''-F-94, college: Kentucky, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) to Dallas, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. According to Wojnarowski, Philadelphia will receive Justin Anderson (6'6''-G-93, college: Virginia) and a first-round pick from the Mavs. ESPN's Marc Stein adds that the Sixers will also get Andrew Bogut (7'0''-C-84, college: Utah)'s expiring contract. According to Stein, the first-round pick heading to the Sixers in the deal will be top-18 protected in 2017, which makes it unlikely that it will change hands this year. As our 2016/17 Reverse Standings show, Dallas currently projects to have the No. 7 overall pick, though Noel should help improve this year's team. Future protections on the first-rounder have not yet been reported. Noel, who will turn 23 in April, was frequently mentioned as a trade candidate earlier this season, particularly after he publicly questioned the Sixers' decision to head into camp with a logjam at center. However, the former sixth overall pick had played well as of late, averaging 8.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG, and a career-best .611 FG% in less than 20 minutes per game for the season. Recent trade rumors had focused more on Jahlil Okafor than Noel, so it will be interesting to see if the Sixers end up moving Okafor today as well. In his full report on the trade, Wojnarowski suggests Okafor is now likely to stay put. For the Mavs, Noel represents a substantial upgrade at center, giving the team the sort of athletic, rim-protecting big man it had been seeking. As Wojnarowski tweets, Dallas has 'long been intrigued' by Noel, and will look to lock him up this summer. The Kentucky product will be a restricted free agent, so the Mavs will have the opportunity to match any offers he receives from other teams. From the Sixers' perspective, the move represents a chance to pick up a young player and a draft pick while also potentially not having to worry about reaching the salary floor. Anderson has yet to make a real impact in his two NBA seasons, but he's still just 23 years old and won't be a restricted free agent until the summer of 2019. Meanwhile, the combined salaries for Bogut ($11MM+) and Anderson ($1.51MM) are worth approximately $8MM more than Noel's salary, allowing Philadelphia to surpass the salary floor. However, if the Sixers were to flip Bogut in another deadline deal, that could change the equation, and the team has yet to decide what they'll do with the veteran center, per Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. ESPN's Chris Haynes reports that Bogut and the Sixers are expected to engage in buyout talks, with potential suitors like the Cavs keeping a close eye on the situation. However, TNT's David Aldridge suggests Philadelphia could reroute the former No. 1 pick to another team, with the Celtics as one possibility. A couple final bookkeeping notes on the swap: Dallas should have the opportunity to create a pair of trade exceptions in the deal. One would be worth about $6.64MM (the difference between Bogut's and Noel's salaries), while the other would be worth approximately $1.51MM (Anderson's salary). The Mavs should also now comfortably avoid the luxury tax this season, having previously been about $1MM away from the tax threshold.

NBA - Nets To Waive Marcus Thornton  - by Eurobasket News - 20 hours ago

The Nets will waive Marcus Thornton (6'4''-G-87, college: LSU, agency: Pensack Sports), a source tells Adrian Wojnarowski of the Vertical reports. Thornton came to Brooklyn in the Bojan Bogdanovic (6'8''-SF-89) deal earlier today. Thornton is on a one-year, $1.3MM deal, which is fully guaranteed. He was seeing regular minutes for the Wizards before rookie Sheldon McClellan (6'5''-G-92, college: Miami, FL) took his role off the bench and the 29-year-old shooting guard didn't play in Washington's last 21 games. In the 33 appearances this season, Thornton averaged 6.6 points and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 35% from the field. He's also sported a 10.5 player efficiency rating.

NBA - Los Angeles Lakers deal Lou Williams to Houston Rockets for Corey Brewer  - by Eurobasket News - 2 days ago

The Los Angeles Lakers have swung their first deal of the Magic Johnson Era, agreeing to send Louis Williams (6'1''-SG-86) to the Houston Rockets for Corey Brewer (6'9''-G/F-86, college: Florida) and a future draft pick. Brewer's agent Wallace Prather confirmed the terms of the trade, which were first reported Tuesday by Yahoo Sports. Neither team immediately revealed the trade publicly. "Thanx for the love L.A., I've enjoyed my stay," Williams wrote on Twitter. Williams led the Lakers in scoring at 18.6 points per game, playing off the bench. Brewer was averaging 4.2 points for Houston. The trade came hours after the Lakers announced the firing of general manager Mitch Kupchak and put Johnson in charge of basketball operations -- part of a massive front office shake-up. And while the draft pick will help the Lakers' future, the Rockets just got deeper. Williams has scored more points off the bench than anyone else in the NBA this season -- and Eric Gordon, the newly crowned 3-point shootout champion at All-Star weekend -- is No. 2 on that list. Reserves have three games of 35 points or more in the NBA this season, all by Williams, all in a dazzling seven-day span in early December. He had 40 points against Memphis, 38 against Utah and 35 against Phoenix. Williams has also been to the playoffs six times with three different teams, seeing action in 41 postseason contests. He's under contract for $7 million next season. Brewer is also under contract for next season, at about $7.6 million. "Thanks to everyone in the Houston Rockets organization for my time here," Brewer wrote in a statement released on Twitter. "A special thanks to all the great fans of the Rockets for making this city a special place to live and play."
