NBA - Grizzlies trade Troy Daniels to Suns for second-round pick  - by Eurobasket News - 3 days ago

With a few teams already holding media day and training camp just around the corner, this isn't exactly trade season. If not for the Carmelo Anthony situation, trades wouldn't even be on people's minds at all. So of course, early Friday evening, the Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns made a trade out of nowhere. The Grizzlies sent journeyman guard Troy Daniels and a 2018 second-round pick to the Suns in exchange for a 2018 second-round pick. So, yeah, basically the Grizzlies just sent Daniels to the Suns. Via NBA.com/Grizzlies:
Memphis Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace today announced that the Grizzlies have acquired a 2018 second round draft pick from the Phoenix Suns for guard Troy Daniels and one of the Grizzlies' three 2018 second round draft picks. Daniels, who has played for four different teams in the last four seasons, is coming off his most productive season, averaging 8.2 points and shooting 38.9 percent from downtown over 67 games. The 6-4 Daniels is a strong 3-point shooter, boasting a career percentage of 39.9 percent. With the Grizzlies' acquisition of Tyreke Evans and Ben McLemore during the offseason, it's unlikely that Daniels would have found much playing time this season. In Phoenix, however, Daniels should have a real chance to break into the backcourt rotation behind Devin Booker.

Rautins is quite experienced player. He has played also professionally in Germany (Deutsche Bank Skyliners), Italy (Openjobmetis VA), Spain (HLA Alicante), NBA (Oklahoma City Thunder) and NBA G League (Oklahoma City Blue).
The scouts decsribe him following way: (by Jonathan Wasserman for NBADraft.net in 2010)
He is always active without the ball, constantly running through and around screens to free himself open More than just a 3 point specialist, it's his play making abilities that make him a well rounded player He has an excellent basketball IQ, along with tremendous court vision, his passing skills can sometimes go overlooked When he does have an open lane to penetrate, Andy has the ability to take it, and set up his teammates for easy baskets.
He lacks athleticism, size and strength, which hurt him on both ends when comparing him to other shooting guards at the next level He does not have the quickest first step, which really makes him nothing more than catch and shoot threat when it comes to scoring

Thompson, who also starred in the Waterloo Wolverines club system, spent the past two seasons at Dawson C. College an NJCAA Division 1 school in Glendive, Montana where he averaged 2.5 ppg this past season as a sophomore. The diminutive guard with quick feet should allow Tatham to play an up-tempo, pressure game along with incumbent point guard 6'1 David McCulloch (185-G) and transfer 6'2 Miles Seward (190-G). While Mac's back court gets deeper and more talented - other key returnees include reserves 6'3 Andre Toic (190-G) and 6'0 Marko Grahovac (183-PG), the front court will likely have to rely heavily on returning 6'8 Matthew Quiring (203-F) and JUCO transfer 6'6 Sasha Simic, who projects as more of a face-up, perimeter-oriented shooter albeit with range beyond the three point line. Expect Tatham to try to protect his bigs and when fatigue and/or foul trouble appear, to go to a smaller lineup. Nonetheless, this season's version of the Marauders shapes up to be much different in personnel and likely playing style than usual.
