Preliminary Round Day 1: PUERTO RICO - CUBA 50-67

Cuba demonstrated great performance in Day One of the FIBA Americas Championship in Colombia. They cruised past Puerto Rico 50-67 for 1-0 record in Preliminary Group A. Participants of the same pool are also Chile, Argentina and host Colombia. Oyanaisy Gelis and Taimy Fernandez stepped up for the winners with 14 points each. Gelis also handed out 6 assists, while Fernandez grabbed 5 rebounds in this meeting. Clenia Noblet helped with 12 points and 9 boards. In the loosing squad, Cynthia Valentin top-scored with 15 points. Jazmine Sepulveda and Esmary Vargas-Sanchez stopped to 9 points each. Quarters: 15-19, 12-7, 14-23, 9-18. Cuba will take a rest today. Puerto Rico will meet Colombia.
