Regular Season Round 24: Kouvot - Kataja 60-62

Sixth-ranked Kouvot (9-12) gave a tough game to first ranked Joensuun Kataja (18-4) in Kouvola on Sunday. The visitors from Joensuu managed to secure only two-point victory 62-60. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 10 points at the halftime before their 37-25 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Joensuun Kataja forced 22 Kouvot turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Jared Newson (195-84, college: Tenn-Martin, agency: Pro One Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and the former international power forward Sami Lehtoranta (205-79) who added 13 points during the contest. Four Joensuun Kataja players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Anthony Brown (203-86, college: Oklahoma St., agency: KMG Sports Management) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Antto Nikkarinen (185-91) scored 12 points and 4 assists. Joensuun Kataja maintains first position with 18-4 record. Kouvot lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with 12 games lost. Joensuun Kataja is looking forward to face Salon Vilpas (#7) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Kouvot will play against LrNMKY in Lappeenranta and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
