There was no surprise when 15th ranked Nantes (2-5) was defeated at home by second ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (6-1) 98-83. The game was mostly controlled by Pau-Lacq-Orthez. Nantes was better in fourth quarter 25-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pau-Lacq-Orthez forced 20 Nantes turnovers and outrebounded them 36-19 including a 24-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pau-Lacq-Orthez shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Charles Jackson (203-87, college: Hawaii-Pacific, agency: Court Side) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Naturalized Senegalese forward Antoine Mendy (198-83) accounted for 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. Five Pau-Lacq-Orthez players scored in double figures. American power forward James Mathis (200-84, college: Niagara, agency: Court Side) came up with 17 points and the other American import forward Terrance Henry (208-89, college: Mississippi, agency: Pro One Sports) added 13 points respectively for Nantes in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pau-Lacq-Orthez keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Antibes. Nantes at the other side dropped to the thirteenth place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Pau-Lacq-Orthez will play against Le Portel (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Nantes will play against Hyeres-Toulon (#16) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
