WNBA

Regular Season Round 8: Minnesota L. - S.Antonio SS 87-72

Date: June 11, 2013
If the Lynx are going to make noise in the WNBA this season, their sleepy offensive performance in the first half against San Antonio isn't going to get the job done. The squad shot 11-31 from the floor and turned the ball over eight times leading to the team trailing by one on their home floor to a team that with all due respect had no business being in the game. San Antonio played physical in the first half leading to frustration by players as well as head coach Cheryl Reeve who picked up a technical foul late. Maya Moore shot just 2-for-7 on her birthday in the first half while Seimone Augustus took just three shots from the field. Good thing there was a second half. The Lynx outscored the Silver Stars 52-36 in the second half en route to their 87-72 win that extended their record to 3-1 and their team record home winning streak to 11 games. Lindsay Whalen was in a word amazing, scoring a game high 23 points while pulling down seven rebounds and dishing six assists. Moore had a solid second half finishing the game with 10 points in the win. Defensively, Minnesota played San Antonio perfectly. Holding the Silver Stars to 38 percent from the floor including just 5-for-15 from three- point range. The Lynx used strong defense and a late third quarter run to extend the lead to as many as 16 points. San Antonio rallied in the fourth quarter but were unable to get any closer than seven points. The Lynx hit the road for three games beginning Friday at Tulsa. Courtesy of: myfoxtwincities.com
