WNBA
Regular Season Round 19: Minnesota L. - Atlanta D. 94-72
Date: July 9, 2013
The Minnesota Lynx turned a meeting of the best teams in the WNBA into a mismatch. Monica Wright, playing in the place of injured Seimone Augustus, scored a season-high 22 points to help the Lynx rout the league-leading Atlanta Dream 94-72 Tuesday night. Lindsay Whalen added 20 points for Western Conference-leading Minnesota (9-3), which never trailed and extended its home winning streak to 15 games. “(Wright) was great and it’s not a surprise to us when she steps into the starting lineup and does this for us,” said Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve. “She was really pleased with her defense and her overall game.” Angel McCoughtry scored 16 points to lead Atlanta (10-2), which lost for the first time since June 9 and gave up a season-high point total. “We’re still number one in the league, and you can’t take anything away from this team with the way we’ve played so far,” McCoughtry said.
