Regular Season Round 4: Maccabi Rishon - Hapoel J-M 70-91

Very expected game in Rishon Le-Zion where 12th ranked Maccabi Rishon (1-5) was crushed by fourth ranked Hapoel Jerusalem (3-3) 91-70 on Friday. The guests trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 52-30 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Hapoel Jerusalem shot 27 for 39 from the free-throw line, while Maccabi Rishon only scored ten points from the stripe. They outrebounded Maccabi Rishon 45-28 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Hapoel Jerusalem especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American point guard Derwin Kitchen (193-86, college: Florida St.) fired a triple-double by scoring 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. The other American import Josh Duncan (203-86) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds. Five Hapoel Jerusalem players scored in double figures. Hapoel Jerusalem's coach Brad Greenberg felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Shawn Dawson (193-93) produced 18 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Bryan Hopkins (183-83, college: SMU) added 10 points and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Hapoel Jerusalem have a solid three-game winning streak. Despite that victory Hapoel Jerusalem went down to sixth position due to points difference, which they share with Galil Gilboa and Bnei Hertzeliyya. Maccabi Rishon lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh place with five games lost. They share the position with Maccabi.Ashdod. Hapoel Jerusalem will meet at home higher ranked Hapoel Holon (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Maccabi Rishon will play against GreenTops Netanya (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
