Regular Season Round 5: I.T.U. - Yesilgiresun 69-74

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Istanbul. Leader Yesilgiresun faced 3rd placed ITU Istanbul. Guests from Giresun (5-0) defeated host ITU Istanbul (3-2) 74-69. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of ITU Istanbul. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But ITU Istanbul won third quarter 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Yesilgiresun won last quarter 13-10. They also forced 19 ITU Istanbul turnovers. American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks. His fellow American import guard Marcus Hall (185-85, college: Colorado) contributed with 16 points and 6 assists for the winners. Four Yesilgiresun players scored in double figures. Nigerian forward Ejike Ugboaja (206-85) answered with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 14 rebounds and guard Genco Ozan Dilik (191-91) added 25 points in the effort for ITU Istanbul. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Yesilgiresun. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Darussafaka. Newly promoted ITU Istanbul dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Yesilgiresun will play against Vestel (#10) in Manisa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ITU Istanbul will play on the road against Hacettepe (#13) in Ankara and hopes to get back on the winning track.
