Regular Season Round 9: Lucca - Chieti 90-61

Bottom-ranked C.U.S. Chieti (0-9) is still winless. This time they lost on the road their ninth consecutive match to third ranked Lucca (7-2) 90-61. It looked good early as C.U.S. Chieti took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Lucca had a 25-12 second period charge getting the lead and C.U.S. Chieti was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 61-90. Lucca dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to C.U.S. Chieti's 36. Lucca forced 25 C.U.S. Chieti turnovers and outrebounded them 39-27 including 24 on the defensive glass. Dutch power forward Naomi Halman (191-86, college: Cal-Irvine) nailed 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and American forward Megan Mahoney (183-83, college: Kansas St., agency: LBM Management) accounted for 16 points and 11 rebounds. Five Lucca players scored in double figures. Lucca's coach Mirco Diamanti felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Argentinian swingman Macarena Rosset (178-91) came up with 22 points and Argentinian point guard Debora Gonzalez (170-90, agency: Players Group) added 18 points (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) respectively for C.U.S. Chieti in the defeat. Lucca maintains third place with 7-2 record having just two points less than leader Ragusa. C.U.S. Chieti lost their ninth game in a row. They still closes the standings with nine games lost. Lucca will play against Priolo (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. C.U.S. Chieti will play against Umbertide and hopes to get finally their first victory.
