Regular Season Round 29: Gigantes - Soles 85-84

A very interesting game took place in Toluca. It ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Soles (17-8) to thirteenth ranked Gigantes (7-17) 85-84 on Friday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. The hosts were tied after three quarters but managed to speed up in last quarter eventually winning the game. Gigantes players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Soles' players. 24 personal fouls committed by Soles helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) nailed a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import forward Keith Gayden (202-83, college: Duquesne) accounted for 24 points and 8 rebounds. Gigantes' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Puerto Rican center Angel Garcia (209-88, college: Memphis) came up with 23 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) added 14 points and 15 rebounds respectively for Soles in the defeat. Five Soles players scored in double figures. Gigantes moved-up to twelfth place. Soles at the other side keep the fourth position with eight games lost. Gigantes' next round opponent will be again higher ranked Soles (#4) in Mexicali and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
