Very predictable result in Mexicali where third ranked Soles (23-8) outscored 9th ranked Panteras (15-18) 111-89. The game without a history. Soles led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Panteras' 38. They outrebounded Panteras 41-28 including 26 on the defensive glass. Soles shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Zach Graham (198-89, college: Mississippi) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) accounted for 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Soles' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench saving starting five for next games. Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83) came up with 25 points and Puerto Rican swingman Alejandro Carmona (194-83) added 21 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Panteras in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Soles maintains third place with 23-8 record having seven points less than leader Halc.Rojos. Panteras at the other side keep the ninth position with 18 games lost. Soles' next round opponent will be again Panteras (#9) in Aguascalientes which should be theoretically another easy game.
