Regular Season Round 38: Toros - Soles 89-91

Fifth-ranked Toros (20-11) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Soles (25-9) in Nuevo Laredo. The visitors from Mexicali managed to secure only two-point victory 91-89. However their fans expected easier game. Toros were tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. They outrebounded Toros 43-30 including a 22-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import center Andrew Naymick (209-85, agency: Warren Sports International) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Puerto Rican point guard Lee Vazquez (173-91, college: Westfield St.) added 24 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Toros. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Soles moved-up to third place. Toros at the other side keep the fifth position with 11 games lost. Soles will play against league's second-placed Pioneros in Cancun in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toros will play on the road against Huracanes in Tampico and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
