There was no surprise in Ankara where 18th ranked Hacettepe (3-18) was defeated by fifteenth ranked Maliye Milli (8-13) 72-65 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 9 points after three quarters before their 20-4 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Maliye Milli dominated on the defensive end, holding Hacettepe to just 4 points in fourth quarter. Strangely Hacettepe outrebounded Maliye Milli 47-35 including 18 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was guard Admir Aziz Kan (185-83) who scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Sahin Ekmen (203-89) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds. Four Maliye Milli players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Bosnian forward Dejan Jeftic (200-89) who recorded 22 points and 7 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and American power forward Keith Chamberlain (204-87, college: Grinnell) added 12 points and 14 rebounds respectively. Maliye Milli moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Buyukcekmece. Hacettepe lost fifteenth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 18 games lost. Maliye Milli will face higher ranked Antalya (#9) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hacettepe will play against Balikesir (#12) and hope to win that game.
