Second Stage Round 3: Rubon - Borisfen 65-62

Important game to mention about took place in Vitebsk. Rubon (10-9) saved a 3-point derby victory at home edging Borisfen (9-9) 65-62 on Tuesday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Borisfen won third quarter 17-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rubon well out of reach of Borisfen shooting 74.0 percent from the field and made 95-of-103 charity shots (92.2 percent) during the game, while Borisfen only scored 55 points from the stripe. They outrebounded Borisfen 122-94 including a 78-58 advantage in defensive rebounds. Rubon shot the lights out from three nailing 38 long-distance shots on high 79.2 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 78 blocks. Borisfen was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Yahor Patupchik (191-94) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Aliaksandr Dziarzhautsau (202-91) helped adding 13 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was guard Alexander Harkevich (186-86) with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and guard Rostislav Vergun (198-82, college: Birm.Southern) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Four Borisfen players scored in double figures. Borisfen's coach Rostislav Vergun rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Rubon will play against Tsmoki II in Minsk in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Borisfen will play at home against Prinemanye and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
