Regular Season Round 29: Grissin Bon RE - AV Cantu 83-68
Date: May 4, 2014
There was a surprise result when seventh ranked Trenkwalder RE (15-14) defeated 3rd placed Cantu (19-10) in Reggio Emilia 83-68 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-68. Trenkwalder RE dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Cantu's 28. International point guard Andrea Cinciarini (193-86) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard James White (201-84, college: Cincinnati, agency: Three Eye Sports) contributed with 23 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners. American forward Maarten Leunen (206-85, college: Oregon) answered with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import point guard Joe Ragland (182-89, college: Wichita St.) added 14 points in the effort for Cantu. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains seventh place with 15-14 record, which they share with JuveCaserta. Cantu at the other side keeps the third position with ten games lost. Trenkwalder RE will face Air Avellino (#13) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Cantu will play against Granarolo BO (#12) and hope to win that game.
