Regular Season Round 8: CDU Catolica - Las Animas 73-65

Universidad Catolica can celebrate finally their first win this season after six consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Las Animas (4-3) 73-65. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Las Animas won fourth quarter 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Universidad Catolica forced 22 Las Animas turnovers. Strangely Las Animas outrebounded Universidad Catolica 37-25 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward John Dickson (198-90, college: Sacramento St.) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. Argentinian-Italian power forward Franco Prelazzi (205-79) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winners. Four Universidad Catolica players scored in double figures. Spanish center Ismael Torres (202-79) replied with 17 points and 7 rebounds and Belizean-American forward Alex Carcamo (200-77, college: E.Washington) added 9 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Las Animas. Las Animas' coach Guillermo Alvarez rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Universidad Catolica (1-6) left bottom position moving up to tenth place, which they share with Puerto Montt. Las Animas at the other side dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Universidad Catolica will play against Puerto Montt (#11) at home in the next round. Las Animas will play against the league's second-placed Los Leones (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
