Regular Season Round 5: Hapoel J-M - Maccabi T-A 93-63

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Maccabi T-A (4-1) on the court of leader Hapoel Jerusalem on Sunday night. Visitors were rolled over by Hapoel Jerusalem 93-63. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Maccabi T-A. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 4-0 record before this meeting. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Jerusalem. Maccabi T-A managed to win third quarter 24-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Maccabi T-A to just 7 points in fourth quarter. It was a great shooting night for Hapoel Jerusalem especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. International forward Lior Eliyahu (205-85) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Hapoel Jerusalem players scored in double figures. American forward Brian Randle (203-85) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and international Guy Pnini (200-83) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hapoel Jerusalem (5-0) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 5 victories in a row. Defending champion Maccabi T-A keeps the second position with one game lost. They share it with Ironi Nes-Ziona and Maccabi Rishon. Hapoel Jerusalem are looking forward to face Bnei Hasharon (#7) in Hod Hasharon in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Maccabi T-A's supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tel-Aviv Hapoel Tel-Aviv.
