There was no surprise when 10th ranked Deportivo Valdivia (2-8) was defeated on the road by eighth ranked AB Ancud (4-6) 86-76 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 42-30 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. AB Ancud outrebounded Deportivo Valdivia 38-24 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. AB Ancud looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The game was also dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was power forward Dwight Burke (202-86, college: Marquette) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. Power forward Eryk Thomas (200-85, college: E.Tenn.St.) chipped in 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. AB Ancud moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Las Animas. Deportivo Valdivia lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with eight games lost. AB Ancud will face higher ranked Universidad de Concepcion (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
