Regular Season Round 10: Boston C. - Indiana P. 101-98

Date: November 7, 2014
With a heavy heart, the Boston snapped its three-game losing skid with a 101-98 win over Indiana. Avery Bradley, who had missed a potential free throw at Dallas last week that would have tied the game in the closing seconds, made amends for that on Friday with a pair of free throws with 2.9 seconds to play that put Boston ahead by three points. Indiana had one last chance to force overtime, but Gerald Wallace came up with the steal to seal the victory. The win was bittersweet for the Celtics whose thoughts were on rookie guard Marcus Smart who suffered a left ankle injury with 11:07 to play in the game when he was fouled by former UConn guard A.J. Price while driving to the basket. Smart, who had three points for the game, would lay on the TD Garden parquet for several minutes, those in attendance unsure just how serious his injury would be. There were soon "Mar-cus Smart! Mar-cus Smart!" chants from the TD Garden crowd. Smart's teammates soon gathered around him, making sure he knew that they were there with him. He was soon immobilized on a stretcher, but not before he flashed the "thumbs up" sign to the fans. Despite the pain that they were in, in seeing one of their own go down, they still had a game to play which at the time was tied at 75. Smart's departure seemed to bring about a renewed focus by his teammates, especially Jared Sullinger who is gradually establishing himself as a fourth quarter, go-to guy for the Green team. Despite Sullinger and the rest of the Celtics' best efforts, the Pacers and their cut-and-paste lineup would not go away quietly. Friday's down-to-the-wire finish was a sharp detour from the path this game seem headed down earlier. The Celtics played a relatively error-free game for most of the first half, as their lead peaked at 13 with less than three minutes to play in the second quarter. But if there's one thing we've learned from this Celtics team in this still-young season, there's no such thing as a safe lead or too big a deficit for them. That comfortable 13-point cushion was soon chopped down to a mere three points with Boston ahead 55-52 at the half. Indiana went ahead in the third quarter and led by as many as five points before Boston found themselves down 75-73 going into the fourth. Courtesy of: csnne.com
