Regular Season Round 12: Puente Alto - Puerto Montt 99-95

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eleventh ranked Puente Alto and 12th ranked Puerto Montt had identical 1-9 record. This time Puente Alto used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Puerto Montt 99-95 on Saturday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-19. But Puerto Montt won second period 24-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Puente Alto looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The winners were led by American forward Donovan Johnson (201-92, college: Ky Wesleyan) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and the other American import center Dazmond Starke (201-90, college: Ky Wesleyan) supported him with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Even 24 points and 8 rebounds by center Carlos Aranda (197-92) did not help to save the game for Puerto Montt. point guard Nicolas Ulloa (170-90) added 19 points and 8 assists (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Five Puente Alto and four Puerto Montt players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Puente Alto maintains eleventh position with 2-9 record. Puerto Montt lost ninth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Puente Alto will meet at home higher ranked Las Animas (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Puerto Montt will play against Colo Colo (#5) in Santiago and hope to win that game.
