Regular Season Round 14: CD Castro - Las Animas 67-59

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Las Animas (6-7) were defeated on the road by third ranked CD Castro (10-3) 67-59 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 19-13. But Las Animas won second period 16-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when CD Castro won last quarter 16-9. The former international point guard Gonzalo Velasquez (185-81) scored 32 points and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Terrance Thomas (198-80, college: Baylor, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 11 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Belizean-American forward Alex Carcamo (200-77, college: E.Washington) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 17 rebounds and Spanish center Ismael Torres (202-79) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. CD Castro moved-up to second place, which they share with Los Leones. Loser Las Animas keep the seventh position with seven games lost. CD Castro will meet at home bottom-ranked Puerto Montt (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Las Animas will play against AB Ancud (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
