Very expected game when 12th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (1-9) was defeated at home by second ranked Maccabi T-A (8-2) 82-70. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi T-A. Maccabi Ashdod was better in fourth quarter 18-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Maccabi Ashdod 46-30 including a 34-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. American swingman Devin Smith (196-83, college: Virginia) notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds to lead the effort and international center Alex Tyus (203-88, college: Florida) supported him with 13 points and 13 rebounds. Five Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Even 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by American guard Terrel Harris (195-87, college: Oklahoma St.) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Ashdod. His fellow American import Curtis Kelly (205-88, college: Kansas St.) added 8 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Maccabi Ashdod's coach Lior Lubin rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maccabi T-A have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 8-2 record behind leader Hapoel J-M. Maccabi Ashdod lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Maccabi T-A will play against Maccabi Rishon (#3) in Rishon Le-Zion in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Maccabi Ashdod will play on the road against Bnei Hasharon (#8) in Hod Hasharon to get more than just one victory in their record.
