The most exciting game of round 16 in the A2 Gold took place in Trieste. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Trieste (8-8) to fifth ranked Novipiu Casale (9-6) 71-69 in the game for the fifth place. The guests trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 2 points. American forward Jamar Samuels (200-89, college: Kansas St., agency: Two Points) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists (perfect from downtown making all five shots) for the winners. The other American import guard Jermaine Marshall (193-90, college: Arizona St.) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. The former international Stefano Tonut (194-93) produced 29 points and 4 steals (made all of his eight free throws) and Francesco Candussi (211-94) added 12 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Trieste's coach Eugenio Dalmasson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Novipiu Casale maintains fifth position with 9-6 record. Trieste lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Lighthouse TR and Angelico BI. Novipiu Casale are looking forward to face Mantovana (#9) in Mirandola in the next round. Trieste will have a break next round.
