Regular Season Round 15: U-Banca TR - Gaz Metan 86-63

Rather expected game when 10th ranked Gaz Metan (5-9) was smashed by eighth ranked U-Banca TR (7-6) in Cluj 86-63 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by U-Banca TR. Gaz Metan managed to win fourth quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. U-Banca TR looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international center Catalin Baciu (213-88, college: Clemson) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Darius Hargrove (194-82, college: Virginia Union) accounted for 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Four U-Banca TR players scored in double figures. U-Banca TR's coach Dorin Pintea felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Serbian-Bosnian power forward Marko Djurkovic (206-87, agency: BeoExcell) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and Belarusian-Russian Aliaksandr Pustahvar (202-85) added 11 points respectively for Gaz Metan in the defeat. U-Banca TR have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with BC Timisoara and Rovinari. Gaz Metan lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eleventh position with nine games lost. U-Banca TR will meet higher ranked Oradea (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gaz Metan will play against Craiova (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
