Regular Season Round 18: Braunschweig - EWE Baskets 80-71
Date: January 18, 2015
An interesting game took place in Braunschweig where higher ranked EWE Baskets (11-6) were upset on the court of thirteenth ranked Braunschweig (8-10) 80-71 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of EWE Baskets. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-20. But EWE Baskets won second period 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Derrick Allen (203-80, college: Mississippi) scored 25 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import point guard Dru Joyce (183-85, college: Akron, agency: LUMANI 10.7) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 12 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) during the contest. Four Braunschweig players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Casper Ware (178-90, college: Long Beach St.) with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Serbian power forward Nemanja Aleksandrov (210-87) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. EWE Baskets' coach Sebastian Machowski tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Braunschweig have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser EWE Baskets keep the fourth position with six games lost. Braunschweig will face bottom-ranked Crailsheim Merlins (#18) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. EWE Baskets will play against BG Goettingen (#12) and hope to win that game.
