Regular Season Round 83: Denver N. - Boston C. 99-100
Date: January 23, 2015
After failing to beat a team out West in nearly two years, the Boston Celtics have put together back-to-back victories with Friday's 100-99 win at Denver. Avery Bradley had 18 points, including the game-winner with less than a minute to play. Denver had one last shot in the closing seconds to get the victory, but Boston's Tayshaun Prince forced a miss in the closing seconds by former Celtic Jameer Nelson as time expired. Boston trailed by as many as 10 points, but rallied in the second half to take the lead multiple times. Trailing 96-95 with less than two minutes to play, Bradley came off a dribble-handoff behind the 3-point arc and raised up for a 3-ball that put Boston ahead 98-97. Denver's Wilson Chandler made the first of two free throws which cut Boston's lead to 98-97. Boston had a chance to increase its lead but Jared Sullinger was called for an offensive foul, his fifth of the game. On Denver's ensuing possession, Nelson threw up a driving shot that banked off the backboard and grazed the rim before landing in the hands of Tyler Zeller. Boston brought the ball up court and called a time-out with 31.3 seconds to play. Once again it was Bradley coming through as he set a screen, waited for his defender to ease up and sprinted to an open spot and pulled up for a jumper to give Boston a three point lead with 25.9 seconds to play. After a Denver time-out, Arron Afflalo had an open 3-ponter that he missed, but in the scramble for the loose ball it wound up in the hands of J.J. Hickson who had the easy put-back.
