Not a big story in a game when 15th ranked Lille Metropole (7-13) was defeated at home by eighth ranked Le Portel (11-9) 78-63 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Le Portel. Lille Metropole was better in fourth quarter 15-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Lille Metropole 41-24 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lille Metropole was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Jakim Donaldson (203-83, college: Edinboro) who helped to win the game recording 20 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and naturalized Algerian Mehdi Cheriet (204-87, college: San Diego St.) who added 17 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Naturalized Burkinabe Jean-Victor Traore (204-85) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Cape Verdean-Portuguese Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill) scored 12 points. Lille Metropole's coach let to play ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Le Portel moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Orchy. Lille Metropole at the other side dropped to the fourteenth position with 13 games lost. Le Portel will face Fos Ouest (#13) in Fos-sur-Mer in the next round where they are favorite. Lille Metropole will play at home against ALM Evreux and hope to win that game.
