Regular Season Round 4: Academia - Aguilas 74-91

Leading Academia (2-2) recorded its second loss in Montaa. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Patriotas (2-2) 91-74. It looked good early as Academia took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Patriotas had a 25-16 second period charge getting the lead and Academia was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-91. Patriotas forced 19 Academia turnovers. Strangely Academia outrebounded Patriotas 40-27 including 26 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by American guard Eddy Barlow (183) who scored that evening 20 points, 7 assists and 4 steals and the other American import Jereal Scott (203-89, college: SF Austin) supported him with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Even a double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds by Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) did not help to save the game for Academia. Jamal Jackson added 19 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Five Patriotas and four Academia players scored in double figures. Academia's coach Hernan Dario Giraldo rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Patriotas moved-up to third place, which they share with Academia and Guerreros. Patriotas will play against league's leader Cafeteros in Armenia in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Academia will play at home against the league's second-placed Piratas and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
