Regular Season Round 19: Panionios - KAOD 72-79

Not a big story in a game when 14th ranked Panionios (3-16) lost to tenth ranked KAOD (7-12) in Athens 72-79 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 15-12. But Panionios won second period 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when KAOD won last quarter 26-21. It was an exceptional evening for guard Thodoris Zaras (197-88) who led the winners and scored 25 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Emmanouil Papamakarios (192-80) accounted for 17 points for the winning side. Guard Dimitris Verginis (194-87) came up with 16 points and 6 rebounds and American William Coleman (206-88, college: Memphis) added 16 points respectively for Panionios in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. KAOD moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Trikalla and Nea Kifisia. Panionios lost their eighth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. KAOD will meet at home league's second-placed Panathinaikos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Panionios will play against Koroivos (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
