Regular Season Round 23: Lucentum - Cambados 62-63

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Meridiano Alicante (14-8) against ninth ranked Cambados (12-10) on Sunday night. Host Meridiano Alicante was edged by Cambados in a tough game in Alicante 62-63. Meridiano Alicante cut a 17-point halftime deficit to one at the end of the game. Center Alberto Rodriguez (206-75) saved the victory by scoring 19 points and 8 rebounds. American-Swedish swingman Tim Whitworth (198-81, college: Drexel, agency: Dynamics Global Management) contributed with 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Cameroonian center Johan Kody (207-93) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) and power forward Alejandro Navajas (201-86) added 17 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) in the effort for Meridiano Alicante. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Cambados moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Avila. Meridiano Alicante lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the fourth position with eight games lost. Cambados will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Meridiano Alicante will play on the road against the league's leader Caceres Basket (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
