Regular Season Round 39: Chiba Jets - Wakayama T. 103-72

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Chiba Jets (25-15) rolled over at home 5th ranked Wakayama T. (4-35) 103-72 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Chiba Jets. Wakayama T. was better in second period 23-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Wakayama T. 45-26 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Chiba Jets looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for American power forward Rick Rickert (211-83, college: Minnesota) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Justin Burrell (207-88, college: St.John's) contributed with 16 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Chiba Jets players scored in double figures. Chiba Jets' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American power forward Paul Butorac (208-83, college: E.Washington) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and Nigerian center Cyril Awere (211-85) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Wakayama T.The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Chiba Jets. They maintain fifth place with 25-15 record which they share with defeated Wakayama T. Wakayama T. lost their twenty second game in a row. They keep the fifth position with 35 games lost. Chiba Jets will face Kumamoto V. (#6) on the road in the next round. Wakayama T. will play against Tsukuba R. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
