Regular Season Round 47: Saitama Bron. - Gunma 88-84

There was a small surprise when twelfth ranked Saitama Broncos (5-38) won against at home 9th ranked Gunma (15-28) 88-84 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 12 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-84. Gunma was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Vincentian power forward Nyika Williams (203-87, college: Pacific) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. American forward Gary Johnson (198-91, college: Albany) helped adding 27 points and 5 rebounds. Four Saitama Broncos players scored in double figures. American forward Carlos Dixon (201-81, college: Virginia Tech) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists and the other American import forward Melvin Ely (208-78, college: Fresno St.) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Gunma's coach Charlie Parker rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Saitama Broncos moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with Tokyo Cinq R. Gunma lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 28 games lost. Saitama Broncos will face again higher ranked Gunma (#9) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
