Dominican Republic outgunned Costa Rica in the opening game at the tournament. Dominican Republic accumulated a massive 55:20 halftime lead and cruised to the victory in the second half. Samuel Hurtado finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Jose Perez and Ismael Waldron netted 12 points each for Dominican Republic. Ricardo Rojas answered with 10 points for Costa Rica.
