Regular Season Round 1: Trier - Baunach 78-68

Very important is a road loss of Baunach (0-1) against Gladiators (1-0) on Saturday night. Visiting Baunach was defeated by Gladiators in Trier 78-68. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Dwayne Evans (198-92, college: St.Louis) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import swingman Brandon Spearman (190-91, college: Hawaii) contributed with 16 points and 5 steals for the winners. Spearman is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Gladiators' coach Marco van den Berg allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Center Leon Kratzer (208-97) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds and point guard Daniel Schmidt (186-90) added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Baunach. Four Baunach players scored in double figures. Gladiators will play against Koeln Rh.Stars on the road in the next round. Baunach will play against Nuernberg to get more than just one victory in their record.
